unknowable terror :]

@idvlawyermain

any pronouns (he/she/they/it) • lesbian • white • i wear my kn95's in public so no one can hear me muttering "ferret" over and over :]

humans need a threat display. there should be a socially acceptable universally understood way to say "i swear to god if you fuck with me i'll kill us both".

How much longer until the utopic Solarpunk future where Capitalism is dead and we all live in ecologically sustainable high-tech forest cities? Asking for a friend.

Until we make those ecologically sustainable high-tech forest cities ourselves. It’s going to take a lot of us to do it though, so best to spread the word (and gather native tree seeds).

And, like, get started now. Then our “weirdo houses” will be the only thing functioning when everything falls apart!

The only reason why we don’t live in a solarpunk world right now is because no one has bothered to make it yet.

We’ll have to make it ourselves, and we’ll have to help each other make it. That’s why it is solarpunk

Some resources to consider creating or joining or doing:

Grow food in 5 gallon buckets

  • Learn how to repair a hole in the sole of a shoe
  • Learn some basics on passive solar design - clever use of the sun can create extremely energy efficient homes and buildings. You can use these principles to save on energy bills, even if you’re renting.
  • Free USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning, 2015 revision - cut down on personal food waste! Learn how to safely preserve food. Very useful if you suddenly harvest / purchase for crazy cheap in season / dumpster dive a ton of perishable food.
  • Donate to One Acre Fund, which provides training and capital to farmers (making them more productive and pulling them out of poverty) in various east African countries
  • Donate to Bridges to Prosperity, which provides technical expertise, money, and volunteers, to help local people build and maintain their own footbridges in extremely isolated rural areas
  • joining r/solarpunk, and sharing links/ideas/art/music with the community. Also, upvoting stuff for greater visibility. There’s over 900 members!

u ever rb something and then realize who the op is and then u gotta scramble to slap that shit off ur blog

I happily accept messages from friends who tell me I reblogged from someone trash because I can’t possibly know everything and I appreciate being told and given a chance to remove a reblog instead of people secretly thinking I’m terrible

Listen: I have on a couple occasions happily deleted something from my blog when someone informed me the OP was a terf.  Anon me if you’re shy, just don’t let people go on thinking I’m in anyway okay with that kind of shit.

i dont think whites understand how being white makes literally everything easier.

it effects everything.

being trans is easier when youre white.

being gay is easier when youre white.

being disabled is easier when youre white.

being a woman is easier when youre white.

being autistic is easier when youre white.

oppression is eased when you are white, as you get extra privileges, and your whiteness is seen as a positive characteristic that in some ways counter-balances your other forms of being a minority. whiteness controls everything.

you are automatically way more innocent in your own oppression as a gay, trans, disabled person because of your whiteness.

never forget this.

Imma judge any white person who likes this but doesn’t reblog

this is why there is no longer lab research on pornography.

“Countless studies have since shown that exposure to pornography desensitizes men to violence against women, often shaping their sexuality in such a way that they become unable to experience arousal without some element of dominance or violence. The evidence has been so damning that, at times, universities have refused to allow further research on the topic. When a study shows detrimental effects that cannot be reversed, ethics boards will often refuse similar studies to go on. This has happened repeatedly with research on the effects of pornography.

When you thought men been hit rock bottom but they prove you wrong

me @ the Thai ladies

Not only men didnt do anything but they also tried to pull women away and save the fucker.

And checked on him afterward.

Obviously, fucking disgusting pigs they always support each other especially when they’re against women. Men are trash.

the real bro code - protect other men against the consequences of their actions against women

It has nothing to do with these women on the video but the discussion here reminded me of a situation when I was at a club a few years back… a girl was completely passed out on a corner and a guy approached her and started touching her breasts and pulling up her skirt. I was with some male friends and I asked them to go there with me to help her and all of them said no (“not my business” “but it looks like they’re having fun” “I don’t want any problems”). I asked a random girl that was just dancing nearby to go there with me and she just agreed without any objections. The guy freaked out when we verbally confronted him and took off, we found the girl’s friends eventually, everything ended well. But it was terribly disappointing that my male friends, those that call themselves feminist-allies and communists couldn’t care less about a woman being raped and wouldn’t do anything to stop it even when they were called to action.

And this is why Gillette released that ad

unlearning racism and what next

there is a lot of quiet dirt kicking and glancing around i continuously see white leftists doing and you might think “this isnt about me” - its about you. it does go as far as affecting white people i trust and my own mutuals. sit down and read before you start crying.

unlearning racism and being critical of your subconscious is something that must be done if you have any real desire to combat racism. when something, anything (and this is for all things in general not just racism) is funny you need to start asking yourself why. why is this thing funny? what is the humor rooted in?

the most obvious example is i still see a lot of laughing at accents or people going as far as mimicking it themselves. it was jarring for me to finally give in and try watching john mulaney and he does an impression of an asian woman, accent and all. did i expect much from him or his stand up? no not really but the fact that just about everyone touted him as a dude with inoffensive humor and i’d seen 0 discussion about it was disheartening. unsurprisingly the only people i see who dont find him funny are other poc.

this post isnt about the media we consume because at some level, we’re all aware racism is bad and those of us who experience racism all know we can’t escape it.

white leftists are getting decent at learning what’s bad. black, brown, yellow face; all bad. racial slurs; bad. congrats on the baby steps.

however there’s a lot lacking across the board. you’ve begun to unlearn racism, so what are you personally going to do about it? you don’t help people of color with only inaction, that doesn’t do anything to actually move us away from marginalization and erasure.

it is extremely important that if you are white you uplift the poc around you, no matter how small or irrelevant it seems to you. go out of your way to change the things you consume. increase artists of color in your music library, watch shows that are by and for poc. knowing only the names of musicians at the very top of the charts or movies that were able to win awards is performative. you didn’t do anything to know them, they had to be the best of the best to get any recognition; the work was all their own. this is a major change in the way you live that wont happen overnight, you need to do so intentionally and with practice. (this shouldnt have to be said, but just because that content is being shared with you it doesnt mean its YOURS. dont become fetishistic, dont infantilize or patronize creators, and dont fucking inject yourselves in conversations not meant for you.)

in the meantime, the biggest help you can do that will actually do something for the poc who dont have a platform starts right here. every single poc on tumblr will tell you that if they get any recognition on tumblr, its from other poc. stop ignoring us. that means if you see a post on racism and it has few notes, you go out of your way to reblog it. reblog as many selfies from the poc you follow as the lily white ones. fuck, reblog their shitposts and miscellaneous content too. it should not talk railing against racism for you to finally pay attention to us (and you can barely do that as it is).

and some side notes which go for poc too. if youre white, put it in your HEADER fuck your bios cuz half the time that your links dont even work. it doesnt matter if you have selfies or talk about your whiteness, that info shouldnt have to be rooted around for. dont compare things that arent the n word to the n word. you need to uplift and boost your black counterparts too and unlearn and continue to work on antiblackness, we dont get a free pass. theyre part of our communities too, afro latine exist, black asians exist, so on and so forth. antiblackness and colorism is present globally. aave isnt slang and it shouldnt be treated as some childish gimmick.

edit: if youre white and i see you like this without reblogging i’m hunting you for sport
