Bank Robbery [in miniature]
The Teams:
Heroes: Avengers [Captain America and Thor]
Villains: The Wrecking Crew [Wrecker, Piledriver, Bulldozer and Thunderball]
Both have [near] equal points. 1617 for the heroes, 1618 for the villains. So despite the heroes being outnumbered 2:1, the points are very much level.
With 1 Fate Point per 500 points, each team goes into battle with 3 Fate Points. This is a mechanism I haven't gone into yet, but an important one. Fate Points allow for 'Tricks' [Such as Thor calling down a Tornado] and can allow for rerolls of knockouts.
Table Layout:
The usual arrangement; several buildings round the edge for cover, a smaller store in the centre that is easy enough to scale and use as a vantage point.
The new addition, the bank, is attached to the edge of the map.
Inconveniently for the villains, the escape route following the robbery is the opposite corner of the map.
‘’Most of The Avengers are in the Savage Land, fighting dinosaurs. The Fantastic Four are adventuring through space. The X-Men are fighting amongst themselves, again. The city is ours.’’
The Wrecker, leader of the Wrecking Crew, tells his gathered allies their newest plan. Central Bank contains a whole heap of cash and gold, and it’s just sitting there. Take the money and run, live a life of luxury....for a few months, at least.
Round One.
As per scenario rules, there are no heroes on the map yet. The first turn is solely for the villains to get into the bank.
The Wrecker rushes into the bank, waving his enchanted crowbar above his head. He brings it down on the little table for filling in your forms, and hurls it against the customer counters in the middle of the bank. Thunderball follows his leader into the bank. He stares down the hostages, speaking clearly to them about the situation. The scenario rules require some crowd control. A successful Mind vs d6 roll will prevent any hostages from pressing a silent alarm. Thunderball, the most intelligent member of the Wrecking Crew [Dr. Eliot Franklin is a physicist and engineer], takes the roll. Thunderball rolls a 2. The d6 hostages roll 4. Things look bleak for the robbery.
Luckily, two more of the Crew remain. Bulldozer rushes in with one action, spending the other to successfully intimidate the hostages.
Piledriver rushes past his allies and goes further into the bank.
Round Two.
The next turn opens with Thunderball attempting to make up for his earlier failure, rolling to intimidate the hostages. However, he rolls a 1. Luckily, he's in line of sight of his Leader, the Wrecker, and he catches an earful from his boss. This allowed him to reroll his activation dice. Fearing what a third failure would bring, the good Doctor rolls...2. Just one action. His 3 beats the hostage roll of 2, so the robbery continues as planned.
Wrecker's two actions get him into the office, one step closer to the vault.
Piledriver tries to follow him, but the narrow corridors mean there isn't room for them both to squeeze through.
Round Three.
The Wrecker takes the lead once more, and he crashes through towards the vault. With two actions remaining, he ponders his choices. The Vault is accessed in two ways.
Roll Mind vs d10.Two actions.
Roll Strength vs d10+ 4 [Armour d8]
Favouring brawn over brains, he decides to break it open by force. The Wrecker has Weapon Master, for he is the master of his enchanted crowbar, and with two actions to spend, this raises his attack to a d20. Feeling like it'll be no challenge, he takes the swing. The vault's roll, even with the additional armour advantage, is no match for the Power Blow of Wrecker. The vault is ripped open.
The alarms now blare out, due to the vault being opened. No longer having to watch the hostages, Thunderball makes his way back out of the bank to prepare the vehicle with his one action. Piledriver is unstoppable as he rushes right through into the vault where he picks up the large pile of gold.
Bulldozer tries to follow, but with a 1 roll, he trips on the wreckage left by the Wrecker's destruction.. With no line of sight of his leader for a reroll, the turn ends.
Round Four.
With the police notified, they quickly approach the bank.
Three of the four cops get two actions, racing towards the bank. Having been informed by his fellow officers of the supervillain presence, the fourth stays put. He contacts the Avengers about the situation.
Thor and Cap arrive on the scene. Thor rolls one action, flying towards the bank. Cap rushes off on foot.
The villains, now aware that their time is limited, quickly make their last grasp at taking more cash. Wrecker rolls one action, going further into the vault. Thunderball rolls three actions, choosing to confront the police. He steps closer to the officers, and then hurls his wrecking ball at the men.
The blow lands. The police officer's armour buckles under the tremendous force, and the officer is knocked out.
Piledriver carries the gold slowly out while Bulldozer rushes through the vault to aid Wrecker.
Round Five.
The two police officers, having seen their colleague fall, stand strong. The first officer fires his rifle at Thunderball. He misses. The second fires three rounds at the villain. Only the third hits, but unfortunately is glances off his giant wrecking ball. The cop in the distance decides to approach to help his failing fellow officers. But fear overcomes him and he stays back.
Thor and Cap, hearing the gunfire, rush towards the scene.
Round Six.
Wrecker makes his way out of the bank, while Thunderball continues to fend off the cops. With three actions, he hurls his wrecking ball at the first cop, but the blow is quickly dodged by the cop who had seen his earlier attack against his friend. Enraged, Thunderball swings it again. And again. But he misses both of those as well. Piledriver, still carrying the gold, makes his way out of the bank.
The officers again try to stop Thunderball. One officer's shots miss wildly, but the other lands a great shot causing some Major Damage, leaving him Staggering.
Cap and Thor make their approach. While Cap aims for the bank, Thor goes to the aid of the police officers.
Getting in close, he hurls Mjolnir. The hammer cracks right off Thunderball's head [8 damage vs 2 ko] causing more Major Damage, causing him to Stagger even more.
Round Seven.
Thunderball, now Staggering twice over, has to make a Knockout roll vs d6. Luckily, he stays on his feet. Three actions sees him confront Thor and aim a Powered Blow at the Thunder God in revenge for his earlier attack. But in his haste, Thunderball trips, allowing Thor to take a counter blow. The counter blow almost takes Thunderball's head off [19 vs 6]. Major damage inflicted once again. While reeling from the hit, Thor steps in for a Knock Out. A splendid blow causes the villain to fall. Spending one Fate Point for a failed KO roll, Thunderball tries to get back to his feet. Sadly, he is just too injured to do so [7 vs 5].
Their getaway driver down, the villains act quickly. Wrecker and Piledriver exit the bank with their ill-gotten gains, Bulldozer bringing up the rear.
Captain America calls into Avengers HQ to notify the other Avengers of the situation, while Thor helps the police chain up the fallen villain.
The police rush in closer to the bank.
Round Eight.
Wrecker loads his cashbox into the truck ready to get away.
Piledriver is quick to follow him. Unfortunately for them, Bulldozer is still far behind.
Cap closes in carefully, knowing that another villain lurks in the bank. Thor, however, remains inactive. Perhaps regretting the violence he had to show to Thunderball.
The police take aim at the villains, but with the Wrecking Crew taking cover behind their getaway vehicle, only one cop gets a shot off - hitting Piledriver. The bullet clips the villain, causing Minor Damage, leaving him Reeling.

Round Nine.
Bulldozer hurls his moneybox towards Piledriver, who loads it up into the vehicle, and the Wrecking Crew are ready to go. The Wrecker, however, trips climbing into the vehicle, and their turn ends.
Captain America takes advantage of the situation, and he hurls his shield. As a great Marksman, his shield collides with Piledriver, causing Major Damage - Staggering the villain. The shield rebounds off the battered Piledriver, and heads towards Bulldozer. The blow hits the villain, but he shakes off the damage as the shield returns to the Captain.
Captain America throws again, twice, but each time Piledriver just bats the shield away.
Thor readies himself for combat, seeing that with the truck loaded, the villains are ready to flee with their loot. He flies into range and summons down the storm.
The tornado sweeps up all three villains, scattering them across the street and, conveniently, in front of the waiting police officers.
The first cop fires on Bulldozer repeatedly, but all three shots glance off his armoured helmet.
The second cop fires on Wrecker repeatedly, and he fares better. Wrecker knocks away two of the bullets with his crowbar, but the third evades him. It digs through his costume. A Direct Hit. Wrecker is knocked out.
The last cop takes aim at Piledriver. Distracted by his fallen leader, the shot easily hits the villain, causing Major Damage. Piledriver is now Staggering.
Round Ten.
The Staggered Piledriver rolls to stay on his feet, and remains up. But knowing the battle is not in his favour, he abandons the money and hightails it out of there.
Bulldozer has a different plan though, and is willing to go down fighting. He charges the police officer in front of him. With his armoured helmet lowered, the villain loses sight of the cop and the attack misses.
Cap throws his shield at Bulldozer, but the tough villain once again just bats the shield away.
Thor turns his attention to the Piledriver. Fleeing? He say thee nay. The god pursues, and hurls Mjolnir at the man. It hits for two damage, inflicting Minor Damage. Piledriver is Knocked Down.
The police attempt to finish off Bulldozer, but miscommunication from the trio means they lose their opportunity.
Round Eleven.
Piledriver climbs to his feet and, with only one action left, finds himself unable to confront his pursuer. He continues to flee.
Bulldozer aims a Powered Blow at the officer in front of him, and the foul villain cripples the poor officer.
Outraged at the violence, both Thor and Captain America are shocked into inaction.
The two remaining officers rush to their fallen friend's aid. They move into range and fire two shots at the rampaging villain, but the bullets bounce of the armoured helmet.
Round Twelve.
Bulldozer rushes at Captain America, but the agile Avenger leaps out of the way.
Piledriver abandons his bid for freedom, and instead turns to return to battle. He rushes at Thor, and punches the Thunder God with his oversized fists.
The blow lands, but the Avenger simply laughs it off.
Thor counters, and throws his own punch, causing Major Damage. The huge blow causes a Knock Out, and Piledriver finally drops to the ground.
Captain America sizes up the final villain. He takes a step back from Bulldozer and hurls his shield. The pattern continues, however, and Cap is still unable to cause damage to the armoured sole survivor of the Wrecking Crew.
The cops step in. They take aim for a Concentrated Blast, aiming at their target together - but the villain is able to dodge the attempt.
Round Thirteen.
Bulldozer charges the Captain again, this time hoping for a better result. But in the same way Cap can't break Bulldozer's amour, Bulldozer can't beat Cap's agility.
Captain America takes aim with deadly focus. He uses a Fate Point to boost his shield damage from d8 to d10 in a bid to break through Bulldozer's amour. But again the villain's defense is impenetrable.
Thor sees his opportunity to lend aid to his friend, and swoops in. Two of his three actions brings him into contact with the villain. The third? He brings his hammer down on the villain's head. Another perfect 20 for Thor sees Major Damage inflicted on Bulldozer - causing him to be Slowed.
The cops have one action each, and fire on the wounded villain. Only one hits, and is deflected by the villain.
Round Fourteen.
Even when Slowed, Bulldozer manages two actions, causing him to swing a Power Blow at the Thunder God - who dodges it, only to return his own Power Blow. Minor Damage is inflicted on the villain, knocking him down.
Thor swings his final attack at the fallen villain. 17 vs 4 causes more Major Damage to the villain - leaving him Staggering.
Captain America steps up. He races over to the villain and leans in to knock out the fallen opponent with the edge of his shield.
The Power Blow connects with Bulldozer's skull, cracking open his magical armoured helmet, causing more Major Damage - a Direct Hit.
The final villain is down, and the money is returned to the bank.
The small duo of Avengers successfully defeat the Wrecking Crew, who are now on their way to The Raft.
