I now have this scheduled to reblog every year on July 1st at exactly midnight

if someone talk in way that is hard understand or " word salad " , and want answer with something snarky or rude : should not , actually ! if can not think anything to say , should just not say anything .

at best , maybe engage with spam bot and get harmless laugh . but at worst , hurt actual person , who could have hard time for reasons like :

  • very tired
  • not sober
  • brain injury
  • active psychosis
  • active mania
  • AAC user ( hi ! )
  • cognitive disabilities in general
  • and more !

should just be nice . hurt very much when make sincere effort communicate , but people just point and laugh because seem loopy and broken .

People protect a woman who is burning her scarf

A little context for those who donโ€™t know: recently a woman was arrested by the Iranian morality police (who enforce mandatory headscarves and other theocratic policies) and died in custody. This has sparked massive protests across Iran.

And she wasnt even arrested for not using the hijab but bc she was using it "incorrectly". So she was even following the law and still got killed.

They have also tried to claim that she died from natural causes, even when she was 22. And they realesed a very fake video as evidence of that.

THIS. For the love of every thing that is good, if you considered yourself a feminist or a progressive of any sort, support Iranian women. Itโ€™s not complicated what is happening. Whatโ€™s wrong with you people.

Contrary to popular belief u can support trans women for reasons other than pissing off terfs

Pissing off TERFs is just an added bonus

I do support trans women for reasons other than pissing off terfs. I just ALSO like pissing off terfs. They are not mutually exclusive.

Yโ€™know who has to deal with the fallout of u having ur little fun pissing off terfs? Trans women

Making a hate group angry isnโ€™t a fun little bonus. Members of that hate group will attack and blame trans women when they are angry. The fact that ur so focused on pissing off terfs that u canโ€™t conceive of supporting trans women without including the element of making terfs angry is weird. Your goal should be to protect trans women but you and many other ppl reblogging this post and making nearly identical comments seem really concerned with the โ€œfun bonusโ€ of making members of a violent hate group angry. And if u canโ€™t conceive of the fact that your fun little bonus does harm to trans women, or donโ€™t care, guess what? U donโ€™t care about trans women. U view trans women as a tool to make terfs mad for ur amusement

The fact that ur deliberately ignoring the premise of this post, the fact that so many self-described allies are preoccupied with โ€œpissing off terfsโ€ adding โ€œreblog to make a terf mad!โ€ on support posts, CONSTANTLY reminding trans women of the ppl who spend their entire day posting abt how they want us dead or banned from society? Makes u a pretty shitty ally to trans women. Iโ€™m out here begging ppl to actually concern themselves with the safety of the trans women in their life and everybody is taking that as an opportunity to make jokes abt how itโ€™s โ€œicing on the cakeโ€ as if making terfs angry and lionizing them to attack their perceived enemies isnโ€™t directly contrary to keeping trans women safe

The trans women in ur life are suffering for u to have ur fun. Do better

Surgeries and operations are being cancelled on the day of the queenโ€™s funeral. These patients will have been on a waiting list for months if not years.

Everyone should be absolutely seething with rage.

So much hostility in my inbox would be solved if people just clicked through and read links.

So You're Against Amazon Changing Their Heinous E-Book Return Policy Because You Didn't Read The Posted Articles And Only The Titles.

Common messages in my inbox from the last 24 hours.

  1. Wait, what is going on??? Amazon is changing its automated e-book return policy after pressure from authors/author unions, in response to a TikTok "hack" which encouraged people to buy books, read them in full, then return them for a full refund. The refunds were then taken from the author's royalties, often leaving them/us with negative income at the end of the month. (That's bad.) These returns were automated and not monitored, so people could do this with multiple books repeatedly, often hitting an author's entire series in a week, leading to significant losses. Authors begged TikTok influencers to stop promoting this trend and to use libraries instead if they wanted to read books for free. While many stopped and apologized, some with large followings doubled down on being amoral fucktrumpets and started targeting said authors, telling their fans to exploit the buy/refund policy while often using (undeclared) affiliate codes to link to the work, which meant they were earning directly from the author's misfortune. As a fun aside, it is illegal in the US to use affiliate/promo codes and not disclose this to your audience. Just, y'know, throwing that out there. This prompted two of the most prominent author unions, the Society of Authors, and the Authors Guild, to go into talks with Amazon Books. The latter agreed to end the automated return policy for books over 10% read. If you have read under 10% of the book and find you are not enjoying it, you can still use the automated return system. If you have read over the 10% mark and something happens which makes you not want to finish the book, you can contact customer support to start a refund.
  2. Banning refunds is bad! Refunds are not banned. They are merely stopping the automated system which was being exploited. If you have read less than 10% of a book and find you do not enjoy the style/tone/whatever, you can still return it for a full refund. If you have read over 10%, you will be required to open a manual return ticket with customer service.
  3. But talking to real people on the phone is scary! As someone with profound social anxiety, I empathize, but you will most likely not be required to make phone calls if you don't want to. Amazon now uses an IM feature to handle a lot of customer service issues.
  4. I can't afford books :( As a disabled, self-employed, queer author who lives paycheck to paycheck, I also empathize with not being able to afford fun things. I also cannot afford to have people stealing money from me each month, which is what was happening with this trend. If you cannot afford books, please reach out to your local library and request them. Doing so helps both the library and the author! Some of my most regular checks come from services like Overdrive and Libby. You can do this online or by visiting your local library in person. The more people request things, the more likely libraries are to get them. You may have to wait a while if a book is popular, but waiting for a little bit is better than exploiting authors who really don't earn as much as you think they do. If you do not have access to a library at all, try reaching out to the author or check out places like NetGalley.com to see if you can get approved for ARCs (advanced review copies). A lot of authors are happy to send out ARCS in exchange for reviews, as reviews really help to boost our credibility and also reader interest. You can also do what I do and save up. Many a time, I've had to wait several months to buy a $5.99 book on Amazon because it just wasn't in my budget. But I got there eventually, one dollar at a time.
  5. But that takes too long, and I want it now! Listen, I get it. Instant gratification takes too long for me as well, but wanting something doesn't make you entitled to it. Especially not when it's at the cost of someone else's livelihood. This isn't Walmart. The money isn't being taken from a big corporation. It's being taken from indie authors, often marginalized creators who cannot break into mainstream publishing because the whole industry is a monopolized racket. You're not stealing from The Man. You're taking food from the person next door, who is already struggling the same as you.
  6. Is my Kindle Unlimited subscription harming authors? Nope! Books that are enrolled in Kindle Unlimited (Amazon's lending subscription service) are not affected by this. Carry on reading and returning KU books to your heart's content. You're paying someone's bills. Just remember to scroll to the very end. Every page view counts.
  7. Why don't more authors use KU, then? Because KU demands exclusivity, which prevents ebook sales from other retailers and access to libraries. While some authors are fine with this and make their entire living on KU, many of us prefer to reach a broader audience and not give Amazon exclusive rights to any of our work.
  8. It's your own fault for using Amazon! Wow, such society. Very participate.
  9. You're a bitch! Probably.
  10. Can we see Holly Mop? ๐Ÿฅบ Always.

anyone else think the timing of this whole queen dying shit is a little bit convenient considering if she actually kicks it all the media is going to be talking about for the next however many months is her funeral and the new monarch instead of. yknow. the fact the government is in the middle of taking our human rights away. anyone else feel like this just a little bit too perfectly timed to not be blanket coverage

(EDIT) y'all are doing my fucking head in in the notes lmao like you really missed the point here, just ignore my mostly joking accusation of staging the queen's death for a sec here and maybe think about how even if they didn't do that, they are definitely going to take advantage of the situation as much as possible to distract from the fact that millions of poor brits will starve and freeze to death in their homes this winter whilst what little money they have will be spent on her solid gold coffin. if it's not a conspiracy already it's going to become one. they will take any opportunity they can to make sure the media and the government and by extension WE don't have to talk about the worst cost of living crisis in decades and our increasingly fascist leadership. they WILL make sure this is all we hear about as they continue chipping away at our rights and our wallets throughout autumn and winter and beyond. making jokes and celebrating her death is all well and good and we should be glad she's dead but this is only going to make matters worse for the poorest and most vulnerable people in our country. the tyranny she oversaw and was complicit in will not end just because she's dead. they'll use it to get away with even more shit

amid the celebrations about the queen probably dying soon, we need to remember how this will negatively affect the country. there will be millions spent on a funeral and charlesโ€™s coronation while we are in the middle of a severe economic crisis and working class families are having to choose between heating and food. it will take attention away from all the important politics and parliament may be suspended. all news and television will be about her death and her reign โ€” itโ€™s been said that comedy programmes will be cancelled for potentially up to a fortnight out of โ€˜respectโ€™.

yes, celebrate this news. but her death does not erase the fact that the monarchy exists, and it will be a spit in the face for working people when the money we all so desperately need is spent on her and the rest of her family

Boost the hell out of this. Liking is good. Reblogging is better.

I think a lot of people understand why this is bad, but in case some don't let me explain.

The nation was horrified by the recording of George Floyd being murdered. But what if it had never been recorded? Would Derek Chauvin still be out? Would they have tossed the case due to insufficient evidence?

Look, the 2020 protests resulted in laws being passed to hold police accountable. Were they fully successful? No. Does more need to be done? Yes. But there was more being done than I've ever seen.

Now, in the space of a few months we have

  • The SCOTUS ruling prisoners don't have the right to an appeal.
  • The SCOTUS ruling that cops can't be sued for failing to Mirandize people.
  • The SCOTUS rule the government can charge nonIndigenous people for commiting crimes on tribal land, stripping Native Americans of tribal sovereignty.
  • And in Arizona, people can't record cops within 8 feet of an arrest.

This is not an accident or a coincidence. Conservatives are sending a message that no matter what cops do, they will back cops up. They are saying that they don't like cops being held accountable. These rulings should be taken as retaliation for any policy passed that protects BIPOC and hold police accountable.

I think it's cool if a cis woman goes on testosterone, or gets top surgery for aesthetic/affirmation reasons, or even gets phalloplasty.

I also think it's cool if a cis man goes on estrogen, or gets breast augmentation for aesthetic/affirmation reasons, or even gets a vaginoplasty.

It is my belief that bodily autonomy doesn't depend on identity. You have the fundamental right to alter your body as the want or need arises, because when you don't own your body absolutely, you own nothing.

i think something often missing in these discussions is medical reasons. testosterone is proving to be an effective treatment for things like pcos and endometriosis, but medical guidelines firmly state treatment should be stopped immediately when the masculinizing โ€˜side effectsโ€™ start. by normalizing looking androgynous/gnc we will allow disabled people more options for treatment, or really, any treatment. because for now the widely available options for endometriosis are progesterone, which makes many people horribly depressed, a hysterectomy which is obviously a pretty drastic thing, or testosterone.

and i think the number of cis women who want to take testosterone for purely aesthetic reasons is minuscule compared to how many have endometriosis (between 2 and 10% depending on the study) or pcos, and by normalizing things like women having body/facial hair, deep voices etc weโ€™ll be offering them a chance to treat their illness without being seen as freaks

So I happen to have hypermobility thatโ€™s slowly fucking up just about every joint in my body. At one point the pain was so bad it significantly contributed to my getting fired from multiple jobs.

I saw a reference on the internet to even low doses of testosterone helping with joint stability- and therefor preventing or slowing joint damage. I brought it up to my doctor tentatively, wondering if it was anything more than gossip. She agreed readily that this was well known and there were studies to back it up.

I asked her WHY, in the years sheโ€™d been treating me, she NEVER brought this up. She confided that there were Side Effects. I listed the effects Iโ€™d seen on my friends whoโ€™d been on testosterone for years, and she nodded along. I waited for her to add something more dangerous that might apply to me.

She had nothing.

She really believed it was such a sure thing that I would rather have chronic pain and potentially reduced mobility than having a lower voice and some extra hair.

As it happens Iโ€™m agender and donโ€™t give a shit. But even if I wasnโ€™t- I was loosing jobs and in daily pain!!!!

Binary gender expectations, lack of respect for bodily autonomy and misogyny can fuck you up in ways you didnโ€™t even realize were possible.

Almost exactly 1 year in on low dose testosterone gel and not only do I have GLORIOUS muscles. Seriously my arms are fantastic. But my pain hasnโ€™t been lower in probably 15 years and Iโ€™ve stopped worrying about mobility loss. Every part of my health is improved.

There is no good medical reason that this had to wait for years to happen, except that our society is real fucked up about bodily autonomy, gender, and health.
