Reasons to Support “Home”

As you should know by now, the lead is an adorable lil 15 year old who goes by Tip and is voiced by Rihanna. Let me tell you more about Tip:

  • She and her mom (voiced by Jennifer Lopez) are both immigrants from Barbados
  • She’s a big nerd and, as she proudly says more than once to Jim Parsons’ alien character Oh, got an A in geometry
  • She was treated different by the other kids and had trouble fitting in
  • OK LOOK AT HER. SUCH a realistic body! Unsexualized, normal clothes, beautiful curls…love her.

Anyway, this movie is about imperialism. It’s not even trying to be subtle, like, first minute, bam, imperialism. So sassy.

Tip’s mom is looking for her, and describes her as: “she’s got big green eyes and beautiful brown skin.” Score.

The crowd shots in this movie are the most diverse I’ve seen; you can tell what an effort they put in to incorporate people of all races and body types. There was even a casual Muslim couple conversing with another pair (don’t remember their races), several dudes and ladies with dreads, just so much diversity I couldn’t even take it all in.

Dreamworks needs your help!!! They’re in a bit of a financial pinch, and this studio is too good to go under.

This movie rocks so please, please go see it!

One of these women is despised and hated for being awkward.

The other is applauded and worshipped for the exact same reason.

I know other factors come into play.

But something isn’t right there.

ones an extrovert and ones an introvert voila la différence

One had to portray a disaster of a character, one didn’t

Both were doing their jobs as actresses. One was better written.

I was just thinking this. She actually takes the children back to visit their family in their home country and they study about their own cultures. She isn’t one of those white people trying to assimilate her non-white children.

She doesn’t use her kids as props and accessories, and she loves and cherishes them all equally it looks like.

Not to mention how she lets John (Shiloh prefers to be called John) dress and act how they like

Also, I’m pretty sure her wedding dress has her kids’ drawings on it, which is just unbelievably adorable.

it does have her kids drawings on it, they also helped to write the vows and Maddox the eldest boy made the cake with his friends, which is probably why he looks so nervous in the picture of them cutting it.

Every single thing I hear about this wedding makes me so happy even though they’re complete strangers to me because it just seems so joyful.

I remember reading a while ago that when they hire nannies, they have a nanny from each child’s country of origin, who is fluent in their country’s native language, and can teach not just the individual child but the whole family about that country and culture. It’s really incredible how non-assimilative they’ve made their household.
