Did you guys know that the most recent version of sharks have fins that are kinda leg like and they like to walk up onto land?

no way i must have missed an update!

The Epaulette shark is only about 9 million years old as a species, making it the most recent branch in the shark family. And it is slowly but surely evolving into a land animal

LAND SHARK!

LAND SHARK!

WHATCHA GONNA DO WHEN HE COMES FOR YOU?!?!

I will give him a kiss on the top of his little head

I remember that post going around that was something along the lines of 54% of US adults between the ages of 16 and 74 can not read above a sixth grade level and couldn't believe it. Now I work at an Escape Game where we give clues to people via typed out on a screen and the number of people who straight up fail to read them correctly is concerning.

And I don't mean they don't understand what the clue is trying to say. Some clues are more difficult than others or worded weird, and it can sometimes be confusing but generally understood or corrected after a moment. Some people have dyslexia or might not be wearing the right glasses etc etc.

I mean that entire groups of people will completely skip words and not think about what the sentence is even saying. I'm not even joking it's straight up "How dare you say we piss on the poor"

I once typed out the clue "You do NOT need to press the big red button. Since you requested the answer to this puzzle, here is the answer: 90247"

And a player, maybe 45 years old, read out loud to his team mates with complete confidence from the screen: "You do need to press the big red button since it's the answer." And proceeded to press the Big Red Button

Some good news! The AMA is getting on the right side of some important stuff this week:

I’m the first to bring out snide, “gender affirming care is GOOD?!?????” And “the BMI is racist, fatphobic junk science?!???? CALL THE PRESSES!!!!” comments but I’m taking a sec to acknowledge this is actually really, really good.

The AMA is the largest professional association of medical physicians and carries enormous sway and power. We need them to move the needle on this shit, even if it is frustrating they feel years behind.

here is a boba reveal

so i saw @buggachat‘s adrienette boba art n the stupidest reveal idea popped up in my head (i work at a boba shop so now my head is spinning bc i love this au (is it an au?))

  • so adrien pegs me as the sort of person who wouldn’t drink smtg like boba on his own bc it has so many calories (a large size with reg sugar + pearls can be from 500-700 cals, gabriel would have an aneurysm)
  • adrien probably doesn’t really know of it either? but marinette is 100% the sort of person who loves boba and would probably drink at least one per week. she has a favorite shop near the school; she’s tried all the flavors
  • when adrien mentions he doesn’t know what boba is she decides to drag him there
  • he looks at all the flavours. ponders for a while. then chooses the most horrifying one: durian
  • (im sorry if u like durian but i’ve poured durian smoothies and get hit with the smell which i detest fhjdlfHD its terrifying)
  • marinette hates durian, like she should. she tries to convince him otherwise. tries to recommend her favourites. but he’s dead set on durian. so finally, he gets durian.
  • and adrien, God help him, loves the flavour
  • marinette, of course, smiles along even though she’s lowkey judging him. but if it makes him happy, then… oh well?
  • ladynoir also go on coffee runs, and when ladybug doesn’t get her weekly fix of boba, she suggests they grab that instead. chat noir is more than happy to oblige  (n also get his newest favourite drink)
  • ladybug orders something classic, chat noir barely hesitates before going for a durian boba
  • ladybug demands if he knows what he’s ordering ( “wait, have you tried boba…?”) and he says yes
  • “so why durian?”
  • “one of my good friends introduced it to me earlier this month, and this is the flavour i tried n i really liked it”
  • ladybug’s too smart NOT to put two and two together. she tries to give chat the benefit of the doubt; she really does. maybe someone else went to her favourite boba shop with chat’s civilian self this month, introduced boba to him and he had chosen durian. it didn’t mean anything. not at all. definitely doesn’t have to do with the very uncanny timing and choices adrien had made.
  • (she screams into her pillow when she gets home)
  • when marinette asks adrien the next day if he’s gotten boba again recently, he says he went with a friend yesterday as if it’s the simplest thing in the world. then, oblivious to the fact that marinette’s gone sheet white, returns to talking to nino
  • chaos ensues

the rest ,,,,,, may be written,,,,, if when i write this bc i think i acc might,, uhhh,,, self control who is she

this is literally the stupidest thing my brain has conjured the whole week, but after a solid 4 hours of pouring drinks today my brain has officially turned into tapioca and boba is all i can think about

yet again, chat noir has gotten me out of art block, and become my default for when i don't know what character to draw,,,,, HE'S JUST STANDING THERE! BEING PRETTY!!! IDK MAN

Miguel’s wrong by the way. About Miles being the ultimate anomaly. Yes, the spider that bit him came from another dimension, and yes that universe is without a Spider-Man, but it was already in Alchemax’s hands, and whoever Miguel thinks was “supposed” to be Spider-Man was never gonna be Spider-Man, even if Miles was never bitten. And the fact that he was, that against all odds this spider found a way to him from an entity that captured dozens of spiders just like it, that it came all the way from another universe, arguably signifies that Miles being Spider-Man may not be the freak accident Miguel makes it out to be

In the theater listening to Miguel rant and rave at Miles and using 1610 Peter’s name against him, I thought to myself, “If RIPeter was there, he’d be defending Miles. ‘You’re dead wrong about him. If you try to touch him again, you’ll have to go through me.’”

Across the spiderverse said “oh you guys liked the experimental animation style of the last movie? bet” and cranked it up to ten billion and i thank them for that

Something I haven't seen people talk about with the new spiderverse movie is just how puertorrican Miles and Rio are.

For background, I'm puertorrican from the island, and I just watched Across the Spiderverse in a theater here, and let me tell you, the people in the theater freaked out whenever these little details came on. It is so clear to all of us how much care went into portraying every single detail.

You guys don't understand how important all of this is to me.

At the party, when everyone started greeting miles in spanish? I've had all those phrases said to me. All of those people had my accent. They weren't a different flavor of hispanic just because finding some puertorricans was too hard. They were all so very puertorrican that it almost hurt.

But even that can be a bit easier to portray. Sure, they all had puertorrican accents, but everything they said is pretty run of the mill for hispanic people. And then I saw the food. I remember the asopao most clearly, because it was just on screen for a few seconds, and my friend started whisper screaming "Pasteles, pasteles!!" into my ear. It was such a tiny thing, but the food was ours, and not cuban, and not dominican. We never get to see our food done right, because no one cares. People just use dominican food and go "close enough."

And when Miles and his parents are talking about spiderman and Rio says that Spiderman is puertorrican?? That's such a puertorrican thing to do. People here are so incredibly proud of our island and our people that I personally know so many people that have gone to see Lin Manuel Miranda shows while having zero interest in musical theater because he's one of us. It makes so much sense that Rio would celebrate that, and when Miles immediately tries to deflect by saying spuderman sounds more dominican? That's peak comedy. Everyone in the theater burst out laughing, and that joke works precisely because the movie doesn't treat us as interchangeable.

And finally, Rio herself. The way all the characters move is so incredibly unique and mesmerizing, but Rio? My girl feels with her mouth. Her expressions were so spot on, with the lips making up so much of the emotions. Puertorricans use our lips a lot when expressing how we feel, and its such a tiny, inconsequential detail, but it means the world to me. So many people in the creative team cared so much for all these little details to make their way in. They really didn't have to, but they did, and I just really appreciate that.

Also, fun fact, I watched it in english with spanish subs (the subs are for the spanish dubbed version, not a direct translation), and when Rio says "I bet she doesn't even know spanish" about Gwen, in spanish it's "I bet she doesn't even know where Puerto Rico is" and that was very funny and I laughed my ass off when I noticed that's what they translated it as.

I love love LOVE learning shit like this

The animators put so much love into every frame of this movie and I love seeing the real influences for every character

The way that The Spot wants to be Miles’ nemesis to get revenge and how both he and Miles are played off like jokes. The way others don’t really take them as a serious threat. The way they mirror each other about it and feeling upset that they aren’t taken seriously as their lives fall apart from being turned into something more than you were. The way that both of them are fed up and take action about it and slowly reveal they are threats. The way they force others to take them into consideration because they SHOULD BE.

THE WAY THAT THE SPOT LOOKS LIKE MILES SELF PORTRAIT FROM THE FIRST MOVIE THAT REPRESENTS WHO HE IS-

PURE CINEMA.

Remember that moment in ITSV, when Miles first meets his world's Spider-Man and their spider senses do the thing?

The background behind Peter is as we'd expect; the classic red and blue.

But at first Miles' background is green and purple, two colors he's never associated with at all throughout the movie. As the moment goes on, it shifts to match Peter's.

We are literally watching Miles' fate change and the anomaly happen.

It's well established that the spider that bit him was not supposed to even be in that universe, meaning our Miles was supposed to be something else before it happened.

This isn't true for ITSV, but in every other version of Spider-Man, the main color scheme for the Prowler is green and purple.

Our Miles was supposed to become the next Prowler in his world. And the only reason he's not, is because of the original Prowler. Miles switched his fate with Earth-42 Miles.
