hearthstone knew i was shilling for it because i decided to buy a golden pack for the first time because i have a bunch of gold and it gave me a golden legendary

hearthstone has the strangest idea about balancing atm but i think its kinda neat for a game with two major formats. if a card in standard, the last 2 years of sets, is seen as overpowered it might get nerfed.

when those 2 years expire they immediately un-nerf it when its only legal in wild, every set from the last like 10 years, because the power level of the formats so high the original print usually is fine.

just kinda weird how its so focused around being a live service, but i also dont think its really a bad way of doing it

fuck yyou lookin at

“One time,” said Castle, “when I was about fifteen, there was a mutiny near here on a Greek ship bound from Hong Kong to Havana with a load of wicker furniture. The mutineers got control of the ship, didn’t know how to run her, and smashed her up on the rocks near ‘Papa’ Monzano’s castle. Everybody drowned but the rats. The rats and the wicker furniture came ashore.”

That seemed to be the end of the story, but I couldn’t be sure. “So?”

“So some people got free furniture, and some people got bubonic plague. At Father’s hospital, we had fourteen-hundred deaths inside of ten days. Have you ever seen anyone die of bubonic plague?”

“That unhappiness has not been mine.”

“The lymph glands in the groin and the armpits swell to the size of grapefruit.”

“I can well believe it.”

“After death, the body turns black - coals to Newcastle in the case of San Lorenzo. When the plague was having everything its own way, the House of Hope and Mercy in the Jungle looked like Auschwitz or Buchenwald. We had stacks of dead so deep and wide that a bulldozer actually stalled trying to shove them toward a common grave. Father worked without sleep for days, worked not only without sleep but without saving many lives, either…”

“…one sleepless night I stayed up with Father while he worked. It was all we could do to find a live patient to treat. In bed after bed after bed we found dead people.”

“And Father started giggling,” Castle continued.

“He couldn’t stop. He walked out into the night with his flashlight. He was still giggling. He was making the flashlight beam dance over all the dead people stacked outside. He put his hand on my head, and do you know what that marvelous man said to me?” asked Castle.

“Nope.”

“'Son,’ my father said to me, ‘someday this will all be yours.’”

A bunch of unpaid moderators on reddits are, effectively, on strike right now from the voluntary work they do to maintain the site’s many subforums over reddit paywalling critical API support.

Reddit have started banning the striking moderators and replacing them with scabs.

It’s very interesting– usually consumer boycotts struggle to do any kind of measurable effect, but the fact that reddit’s infrastructure relies on the work of hundreds of volunteers to stay functional makes it possible for them to take a fairly effective action. A union is any group of workers who are advocating for better conditions. It doesn’t matter if they’re paid or not. What they’re doing as unionising, even if it’s quite spontaneous and doesn’t appear to have a democratic committee

My advice to any mods involved with this: contact mods of other subforums and try to make a coordinated network.

people will talk about the art of war and literally always forget the most important strategy

hey i hope no one minds but i was really hungry and i ate the mouse. it was unlabeled tho so like, finders keepers

i can't find sources on this anywhere any more, but i distinctly remember reading a blurb about Gene Ray's Time Cube that mentioned how one guy somewhere else in the US read Gene's ramblings and actually parsed enough meaning out of them that he became the world's first and only convert to Time Cube Thought other than Gene himself. this guy then flew down to Florida to meet his visionary prophet face-to-face, whereupon they promptly got into an argument over the fundamentals of Time Cube so bad that they never spoke again. i guess it was always possible to create a religious schism with the theoretical minimum of two people but it's funny to see in practice

funniest thing about the “reddit migration” is that I haven’t seen a single post shitting on anyone coming from Reddit. when twitter started bleeding users everyone was firing rent-lowering posts but with redditors skittering about we’ve left the doors open and put out food bowls
