Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

It’s funny, I was just thinking: what happens when all of the geeks we have today die and their grandchildren inherit hundreds of funko pops of characters they don’t recognise or care about? Like, I can’t imagine them becoming antiques; there’s too many of them.

Ah but that undermines their profit motive, you see. Same reason some grocers toss out perfectly good food on its expiration date into locked dumpsters. Or why when I worked at Borders bookstore back in the late 2000s I had to shred the covers off of the unpurchased magazines once the new month’s supply came, and toss the magazine bodies into a recycling bin and mail the covers back to the magazine, manufactures to prove that we didn’t just give them away. Because heaven forbid we took them or gave them away.
Please don’t take this as a post implying this is a Funko Pop specific thing. I highlighted capitalism’s role here because ALL KINDS of companies are doing this to create false scarcity or to keep their products’ “value” artificially high or whatever. This is just the most recent verifiable case I’m aware of.
As I said on another thread: this is not a bug this is a feature of capitalism. It’s bullshit.
Capitalism can will and is killing the environment and all of us with it.
I used to work for TOMY. They do the same with their excess stock.
