Still laughing to myself about the German guy who checked in last night then sheepishly asked where he can get fast food because, “I always eat at McDonald’s first when I travel to the U.S.”

I’m like, “Buddy, I always eat it first when I wake up. Welcome back to America! It’s a 1 minute walk down the street.”

why do women have miss, ms and mrs when men only have mr

Because men needed to brand us to tell our age and ownership status to see if we were still consumable or not. Miss - young, but consumable in the near future, still property of her father. Ms - defective goods (unmarried, old {over 25}), probably still property of her father or caregiver. Mrs - Legal property of a man.

I thought Ms was created by feminists so that it could be a neutral title? One that doesn’t show whether or not you are married vs miss/mrs?

the original story is interesting! in 1961 a woman called sheila michaels was looking for a term that would not dictate a woman’s marital status and saw printed in a newspaper a typo of “miss” (or perhaps mr), that said ‘ms’. she tried to advocate for it to be a term but in the beginning wasn’t very successful. but then in 1969, a friend of the feminist legend gloria steinem heard about this new term and told gloria, who then used it as the title of her new magazine, which was the first american feminist magazine. from there, the popularity boomed, it became widely used, and just a few years after that, the government approved it for use on documents.

so, we have several women to thank, including gloria steinam, which i was not expecting.

Not to be a bummer but as was brought up in the tags:

Women can’t even fill out a form without telling stories about themselves. Most forms give four titles to choose from. “Mr.” carries no meaning other than that the respondent is male. But a woman who checks “Mrs.” or “Miss” communicates not only whether she has been married but also whether she has conservative tastes in forms of address – and probably other conservative values as well. Checking “Ms.” declines to let on about marriage (checking “Mr.” declines nothing since nothing was asked), but it also marks her as either liberated or rebellious, depending on the observer’s attitudes and assumptions.

bringing yet another culinary horror from the russian internet here

3_rublya, well, i wanted to bake a duck for New Year. Just before the New Year’s Eve it suddenly turned out that there are no whole ducks in the store, just the parts. I made the strategic decision to buy a bunch of duck parts and cook them. At home, I got upset that I won’t have a whole duck, and I tried to restore the duck from breasts and legs by sewing them together. At this point it turned out that each tray I bought had not two but three legs, so overall there were six, five of which were left ones. While I was sewing the duck together, I stained it with the food dye my sister spilled while making pryaniks (the pryaniks were good, by the way), and the duck started looking like it has gone moldy or expired. I couldn’t stand for this injustice and entirely covered it with dye to hide the stains. And then I also shoved some celery and oranges up its ass, just because I could.

I'm a salty cheese, so this school year I think I'll keep track of the drivers who try to kill me

8/27 - Black BMW plate number 673* (6730? 673G? 6736?) - Was looking left while turning right at a red light

8/29 - Black Toyota Tacoma (2009) plate number DC264 - Proceeded into an intersection when I had right of way and was literally right in front of him, gave me the finger, then -- in a move that saved him 0 seconds, but which I'm sure made him feel like a big man -- sped around me and cut me off so he could reach the red light first.

8/30 - White Chrysler Pacifica (2023) plate number WWG-530 - Driving in the bike lane right beside me while I'm using the bike lane because I'm literally on a bike. They came up from behind me, so it's not like they didn't know I was there.

9/3 - The car below, which I didn’t get a make or plate for, sadly. As you can see, not only did the driver make an illegal left turn into the far lane, they turned into the bike lane right in front of me. Due to the wide angle lens, the car is closer to me than it appears in this picture. I knocked on it when I rode past.

Big day yesterday, 9/5

Blue Dodge Caravan (2006) plate number RGE-396 - Ran a red light at speed and nearly hit me in the crosswalk

Red Nissan Versa Note (2016) plate number SRW-859 with a HE>I sticker on the back window - Pulled out in front of me from a stop sign then stopped while fully blocking the bike lane

One person who opened a car door right in front of me and nearly took me out. That was a passenger though, so I won't call out the car.

Yesterday was great! Second day of riding my bike to school so far where nobody tried to kill me. (Other days I took the bus.)

Today...

9/11 - White Nissan Rogue Sport (2017) plate number TJA-059 - Cut me off by changing lanes into the bike lane and then coming to a complete stop, so that I had to swerve around to keep from hitting her.

9/17 - Black Toyota Sienna (2019) plate number WGG-772 - I actually hit this car (lightly) with my front tire because they pulled onto the road from an off-ramp (they had a yield sign) and stopped. I didn't have enough time/space to come to a complete stop before hitting them.

Moped/scooter plate number A1B126 (possibly 1B126) - Stopped in the bike lane, instead of the turning lane, to make a right turn. I had to swerve around into traffic so I didn't hit him.

Silver Honda Civic (2012) plate number RWG-699 - Pulled into the bike lane and stopped to make a right turn (half in the bike lane, half in the turn lane) forcing me to swerve around them so that I didn't hit them.

9/19 - This guy

In this car

Speeding through a red light to make a right turn. He was looking left and only looked at me because I yelled at him. Due to the wide angle lens, he is closer to me than this picture makes it look

9/23

This car hit me!

As you can see, she stopped partially in the bike lane while the light was red. The light changed just as I was pulling up and she didn’t look before pulling forward and clipped my front tire then yelled at me as if I was doing something wrong and she wasn’t the one driving a murder machine with her eyes closed.
