#i have a /lot/ of feelings about this #like the total INSTANT PROTECTIVENESS of lexa my GOd #and clarke pushing her away immediately #like; part of that had to do with lexa yes #but it was more abt herself #emerson brings up all this shit she’s tried to get over #but it’s still there #right under the surface #and she’s angry and scared and hurt and embarrassed #so her first instinct is to push away and retreat into herself #after IMMEDIATELY rushing and touching/comforting lexa moments before#she can’t handle it herself #and lexa just… let’s go #right away #it reminds me of the look on her face when clarke spit at her #disgust; shock; acceptance all in one go #same right here#look at her #shock; hurt; acceptance #bc lexa respects every single boundary that clarke puts up #even tho it hurts her p much each time #fuuuuuuuuckk #i have so many feelings about these two (via banrions)
i could write a whole essay on ADC’s choices for lexa’s body language when it comes to clarke’s personal space, but my favorite thing about her choices here is that her hand hovers over clarke’s hip. like even before clarke brushes her away, she’s already anticipating that clarke might not want her to touch her.
and mind you, this is moments after clarke put her hand on lexa’s thigh and rubbed her thumb against her knee in comfort. but clarke touching lexa is always going to be welcomed by lexa, whereas she’s not sure where clarke stands on lexa touching her. and sure, she got a great insight into clarke’s head thanks to that drawing, but she doesn’t know for sure if it’s okay to cross that boundary because they haven’t talked about it yet. (they were about to, but then…)
contrasting the two back to back is fascinating because ADC plays lexa as not even batting an eye when clarke gives her comfort in a tactile way- hell, she leans into it, angling her body toward eliza. but when it’s lexa’s turn to give comfort, she plays lexa as far more hesitant of where to touch her. she allows lexa to show that her instinct is to touch clarke and that lexa wants to reciprocate the same comfort offered to her. but because lexa knows clarke isn’t there yet, that she isn’t ready, so ADC has her catch herself at the very last second.
her hand hovers near clarke’s hip, and when clarke brushes her away, she pulls her hands away immediately without question. ADC’s choices in how lexa operates inside of clarke’s personal space just read as so consistently respectful. i LOVE it.
