It's so fucking funny how many people who owned Furbies as children ended up being traumatized by them in some way
growing up as an imaginative single child, I loved to play with Barbies. I loved creating elaborate drama-filled storylines for them and I could keep at it for hours. there was one problem. I had like 15 thrift store Barbies and no Kens. I only had one Barbie-sized male doll and it was a collectible Elvis Presley doll and he was my favorite doll. I always did the Elvis voice when I was playing him but he had no relation to Elvis Presley otherwise. anyway, he had some crazy days. trapped on a scary planet where he is the only man in the world and half of the women there hate him. in a massive car accident and stranded in the woods with a girlfriend who had broken her foot and a crazy ex girlfriend who had stalked them there. kidnapped by Athena (one of my Barbie sized dolls was Athena, like, the goddess) and held captive by her while trying to go home to his 7 situationships. all of this happening to a guy who looks and sounds exactly like Elvis but is otherwise the quintessential everyman.
going to be saying this periodically forever now
I think it’s important to clarify, for the sake of this post, that I am a bisexual trans man. Which was probably why Elvis knockoff Barbie was always the main character and probably why I had a pompadour for 10 years after I came out.
I'M CRYING WHY DID TRUMP TAG PAPYRUS
this website’s easy watch. *dangles a bunch of greek gods like keys*
i know what i’m doing dw
Keep in mind I only know like. Two Greek gods by name. Homer is one of them, and he was good friends with Odysseus I think?
Wait fuck Homer isn’t a god he wrote the fucking thing. Fuck
POST CANCELLED NO ONE LOOK
desperately google searching for “greek gods to pray to when people notice your online idiocy”
You're failing.
You don’t think I know that, God of Death? Can I pray to you so I can DIE ALREADY
Pluto is Roman, not Greek
?????
Short version is that Pluto is a later name for the god of death, which is often associated with the Roman era/Roman mythology. Hades is the earlier name.
I set up my own house made of sticks and it has promptly fallen on me
HE’S NOT EVEN REAL?????*
I made this post thinking I knew what kind of fire I was playing with. Hephaestus, God of Fire, looking upon me from his fuck off tower or whatever said “Oh you think you know? Check this shit” and promptly set my post ablaze for everyone to observe
Hephaestus doesn't have a tower, he lived in a volcano
FINE THEN. BIG FUCK OFF VOLCANO. WHATEVER

You're basically doing the post equivalent of standing out in a field during a storm with a ten-foot copper pole, you better hope Zeus is busy hiding from Hera.
Seriously my state (California) is on fire. These are the worst fires in LA history. I’m safe, but there are so many people who lost their homes. Entire schools and businesses have burned down. A synagogue burned down. Please think of us.
Here is a list of resources.
Hey so, gentle accessibility note.
Making you text small isn’t accessible.
Please stop doing this for your entire text post. If you want to use it stylistically for an aside comment or a footnote, fine. But please don’t make your whole post small.
The Y-Axis isn't that bad. Plus they have precise figures for every 2 years on the graph itself. This isn't a misleading graph.
The improvement is actually greater than this graph shows, since while house fires more than halved, the US population increased by 51% from 220 million to 332 million.
The number of house fires per 1000 people per year went from 3.289 to 1.023, a 69% reduction.
nice.

'in october 1966, british textile manufacturer joe kagan told the annual convention of the british menswear association: "in the 1980s men will be wearing skirts or kilts like those worn by the ancient roman soldiers." model tony barnes said of the prototype he donned: "very comfortable. the idea is quite practical. i think this will become a top male fashion one day, and i hope i live to see the occasion"' in radical rags: fashions of the sixties - joel lobenthal (1990)

Going to add something here as a few people in the notes don't know the significance of the date here, or think this might be a dig at Sesame Street somehow - on November 18th, 2003, there was an absolutely landmark legal case in the state of Massachusetts that ruled that civil unions in that state needed to be given the same rights as marriage. This was HUGE - gay marriage was not legally recognized in any state at the time, and civil unions were the closest you could get. This is a WONDERFULLY hopeful, sweet comic drawn five whole days after an enormous, major step forward for gay marriage POSSIBLY being legal. Massachusetts wouldn't even properly legalize gay marriage until May 2004, and it was the first state to do so.

There’s a bunch of right-wing people posting memes about “”DOGE”” making the government more efficient by removing funding from “”dumb bug researchers”” and I am now realizing how little the average person knows about entomology and its importance
Excuse me while I get sad .
There is a community note correcting this post about the importance of researching insects - including the reproductive habits of insects. But still the fact this was posted and 2k people liked it makes me sad 🥲🥲
"stupid researchers studying the mating habits of beetles" people when they can't afford groceries because an invasive beetle species is decimating crops
An actual conversation I had with a colleague.
Colleague: so they were using the wrong species to pollinate their crops.
Me: what do you mean?
Colleague: well they were using a fly species from Canada and they’re growing onions in Texas. The fly they were using was dying in a day in their greenhouses because it’s frigging Texas in May/June.
Me: and no one was studying this or telling them otherwise?
Colleague: not till me.
Me: so they were wasting all that money on an inefficient pollinator and losing out on crop yield.
Colleague: yep…
And yet these idiots want to cut entomological research funding. Yeah, good luck with that. Come back to us when there’s huge outbreaks of pest insects and arbovectors that we were studying but y’all decided it was “too stupid” to fund.
Sure I'll reblog that
Pay them better, next question
Mind your business unless their second job means they're not doing their jobs and that not doing their job means you're doing their work.
So, like, unless it directly and immediately affects you? Mind your business.
Hey friends, if I can ask for a moment of your time and ask you to sign this petition.
The Telegraph recently posted a horrifically ableist piece about chronically ill “influencers” (most people involved would consider themselves advocates), blaming chronically ill people for dropping employment numbers by “normalizing worklessness” and insinuating that visibly disabled and chronically ill people online are only doing so for monetary gain.
I’m not going to link to the article because I don’t want to give it any more views or clicks but you can feel free to look it up yourself. There are also excerpts from the article included in the above petition.
The journalist involved, Natasha Leake, intentionally lied to the influencers involved, claiming she supported what they were doing and wanted to raise awareness about their conditions. Needless to say what was printed was not supportive and the people involved are devastated.
And if you’re thinking this sounds like a rehash of something the BBC did a few years ago when they tried to pit disabled people against chronically ill people and made insinuations about “sickfluencers” being in it for the money, you’d be right.
Same old shit, different media outlet.
There has been a huge push back in media against chronically ill and disabled people over the last few years, in part because our governments are moving more toward fascism and they want you to feel apathy towards the neglect and suffering their policies cause. The media is a tool of this.
Please don’t let us be the only ones fighting back against it. No matter how healthy and abled you currently are, you are just one bad accident, one unexpected illness or fluke of genetics away from joining us.
Please spread and sign demanding that the Telegraph remove this defaming and ableist article and issue a public apology. Thank you 💖
There are other transmed beliefs becides needing dysphoria to be trans, you all know that, right? You know that "brain sex" is a transmed talking point, right??
The entire notion that there is a biological component to gender is transmedicalist. Being dysphoric about physical body parts is not inherently linked to your gender. Your gender is in your mind, it is your self conceptualization, and is not dependent on what sex traits you currently have or wish you had.
You can fully conceptualize yourself as a man while having or wanting to have "feminine" bodily traits and fully conceptualize yourself as a woman while having or wanting to have "masculine" bodily traits, not even touching on the complexity of genders outside the two societally acceptable options. Sex traits (and the desire to have them) and gender are different things and you need to ACTUALLY decouple them in your mind.
