I don't (or very rarely) tag for triggers because I can never remember. If you need any trigger warnings, then I'm very sorry but this blog is not safe for you

Saw another poll that asked what your natural hair color was with half the choices being shades of blonde and that just won't do. Let's go about this the professional way (this does not describe tone but tones are based off this level system). Some natural levels fall in between these, as human variation will do, but go with what you believe is closest.

Feel free to describe your tone in the tags!

*some level systems include levels 11 and 12 but these are strictly to describe shades lightened above a level 10 and are not considered on the naturally occurring spectrum for hair aside from going lighter with age

big thank you to the tumblypoos for understanding the spirit of this post (the curse of being chronically online and nosy) and not typing one million comments going "yeah! fuck teenagers," as has been the trend on twitter

Just a reminder that people who still live with their parents as adults deserve respect and for you to stop being ableist. There are multiple reasons someone could still live with their parents! From invisible to visible disabilities, finance issues, and more!

Stop using the “well they’re gonna turn into a creep living in their parents basement” punchline! It’s disgusting. STOP. BEING. ABLEIST. STOP. FORGETTING. THE. POOR.

Actually reminder that some people just live with their parents. They may not have any issues. You don't need to justify their reasons. It's not morally incorrect to live with your parents for fucks sake. In some cultures it's even expected.

The usamerican cultural belief that everyone who reaches a certain age is not "independent" until they move on their own serves to feed into the individualistic focus of capitalism. That's why you have it so ingrained in your brains. But humans used to live comunally. It's not weird or off-putting or nothing you need to justify. It just is. Deconstruct your minds.

Tumblr automatically hides community labels and does not tell new users about it. The moderation unfairly targets people of colour and trans people. You could be missing so much and never know, and if youre concerned about some content, then choose blur

Shoutout to my geology professor from summer 2022 who said dinosaurs were “beautiful animals.” I love when dinosaurs are talked about that way. Dinosaurs are beautiful. Cenozoic animals are seen as cute so why not extinct dinosaurs???

Also birds are cute and birds are dinosaurs so that pretty much confirms that dinosaur = cute

to put this a different way: are people really dumber than they were in the past? are people really more "incurious" than they used to be? is everyone really just a mindless consumer now, totally unlike before? has general critical thinking really gotten worse in comparison to the past? is this new young generation really dumber and lazier than anyone ever before? are people really brainrotted by an obsession with sex, unlike the intellectual refinement of the past? are people really undersexed and frigid to the point of dysfunction, unlike the past when everyone listened to their bodies and had fun? when was it that all of these problems didn't exist? how can you tell? what are the differences between then and now? when you think about one of these "incurious" people who likes popcorn movies and uses sparknotes to do their english homework, are you picturing a teen girl who you think blames her problems on a disability she claims to have (but totally doesn't cause she self dxed on tiktok) in order to dodge accountability? do you just wish everyone could be like they were in the past when everything was better and people were smarter and more honorable and had normal sex and took responsibility for themselves instead of pathologizing and blaming (fake) disabilities? does this kind of ideology remind you of anything?

26 September: thread by WGA member David Slack

Twitter thread by David Slack @/slack2thefuture:

"As WGA leaders meet today to finalize our deal, we begin a new era for writers — and for labor in our industry. But we also begin to face the final and most insidious form of unionbusting propaganda: a years-long effort to sell the lie that our strike was not worth it.

Over the coming days, months, and years, the studios, streamers, and their surrogates will take every opportunity to undermine what we have won together. They will seize on the inevitable consessions and compromises made by our NegCom as proof that we “failed.”

They will urge us to overlook all that we won through hard work and unwavering solidarity. They will claim it wasn’t enough, that we should have gotten X instead of Y, that we lost more by striking than we gained in this new contract. And they will be wrong.

They will tell us that the strike was unnecessary, it was a waste of our time and our savings, that our agents or managers or lawyers could have gotten us everything we won through individual negotiations without anyone having to walk a picket line. Well… then why didn’t they?

As hard as it is to believe right now, these lies can work. They’ve worked before. During our 2017 strike authorization vote, it was shocking to discover how many members believed we lost the ‘07-08 strike, in which we went on strike for the internet — and won the internet.

This didn’t happen by accident. It was the result of years of whispering by studios and anti-union allies. And they don’t just do it because they’re bitter about losing. They push the lie that we used our power and lost because they hope to stop us from using our power to win.

Our strike was necessary because, in our individual negotiations, our employers consistently refused to acknowledge our right and reasonable demands. Because the profound changes we needed could only be won through the unique and overwhelming power of collective bargaining.

Our strike was necessary because our employers made it necessary by driving our income down 23% in 10 years. Because they refused to address free work in features, streaming coverage in comedy-variety, the abuses of mini-rooms and the threat of AI until we withheld our labor

Our strike was necessary. Our strike was effective. Our strike is a victory. If anyone tries to tell you otherwise, it’s ‘cause they never want to see us stand up for ourselves again. Don’t believe it. We won this fight. We’re the WGA, and when we fight, we win. #WGAStrong"

Okay.

But there are still other laborers out there who liked your solidarity that’s now disappeared. Maybe keep being helpful in other ways.

What's disappeared? WGA members have committed to supporting SAG-AFTRA's picket lines, as well as IATSE, newly-unionized VFX workers, Teamsters, the striking auto workers, striking hotel workers, and many, many more. You must not be in WGA circles because writers are more energized and organized in union solidarity than ever, and WGA members have been walking other picket lines for months and months.

lets hear it for transgenderism and faggotry. can I get a round of applause for transgenderism and faggotry

So do y'all know about Curiosity's wheels? They have these cool hole patterns!

The holes are ostensibly for tracking wheel slippage. The pattern is stamped in the Martian sand, and by taking a picture of the tracks and measuring the distance between the repeating hole marks, you can tell how much the wheels are slipping.

But the pattern isn't arbitrary! Curiosity (along with many many other NASA missions) was built by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory - or "JPL". While JPL is entirely federally funded and almost exclusively works on NASA missions, it's technically operated by Caltech, not NASA. When JPL was assembling Curiosity, they added some "JPL" decals to it along with the cool "Curiosity" label on the arm.

Well, NASA HQ found out and got mad. "You can't put those JPL stickers all over our rover!" they said, and made JPL scrape them all off.

JPL reluctantly complied, but definitely got the last laugh. No decals allowed? Well fine - the holes in Curiosity's wheels say "JPL" in Morse code. So every few feet, the name of the real creator of the rover is stamped into the surface of Mars!

Reminder that if you're leaving Christianity to embark upon a new spiritual path, your new spirituality doesn't have to answer or even acknowledge Christianity at all. You don't owe Christianity any kind of justification; you can just say "nah I'm not into you" and leave it there.

I have an honest to goodness question then, because I have longed for this kind of conversation.

What if I like the historical anarchist punk thirty something year old broke ass Jesus with a wife and a job and zero superpowers besides empathy in a time where it was rare? I hate the god, there is no way on earth you could convince me that sadistic fuck loves us. But I still think that all of the religions and pantheons must exist. I think there is truth to a lot of everything, even if it is all just stories, or if it's all true, but outdated. We don't know everything. And I don't really adhere to anything, and I like the idea of fuck around, find out, don't be a dick, then die.

Whatever happens next is dead me's issue. Maybe it's a different plane, maybe it's a new life here. Maybe we are all just going to sleep after, which I've never heard of an adult complain about a nap, so why should this be any different?

I guess my question is, what if I like bits of everything even though I don't really consider myself anything?

...Well, so....

The "historical Jesus" you're describing there isn't actually "historical." You're describing another mythological construct - one that simply belongs to liberal post-Christians rather than Christian conservatives.

Your assertion that Jesus had "empathy" (I'm guessing you actually mean compassion) in "a time when it was rare" is ahistorical. Yeah, that part of the world had problems (largely due in part to the Roman Empire), but lots of people were teaching kindness and compassion. That's just always been an important thing in Judaism, in general.

There's no significant evidence that Jesus had a wife. Maybe some people back in ancient times thought he did, but it doesn't mean he actually did. This whole thing of "Jesus actually had a wife but those Mean Patriarchal Christians" is literally just conspiracy thinking. It effectively assumes that the condition of present-day Christianity were the deliberate, intentional goals of early Christians.

In reality, if Jesus actually had a wife, there probably wouldn't have been some kind of conspiracy to cover her up; rather, we'd have probably ended up with a slightly different Christology that rationalized and contextualized the existence of a wife within a typical patriarchal framework for the time. Instead, it's quite likely that Jesus was single, some people found that odd, and some early Christians went and rationalized it by going, "well you see, actually the church is the bride of Jesus, so it's actually important and meaningful that he was unmarried."

You also call Jesus an "anarchist punk," but again, there's no evidence for that. He's recorded as telling the Jews to pay taxes to Rome. If you're thinking of that thing where he attacked merchants in the temple courtyard, then I gotta inform you that Jesus was the asshole in this whole deal. These merchants were providing a useful service by selling sacrificial animals to people who had traveled long distances to the temple, and therefore couldn't be expected to bring their own live animals.

Everybody who's still in love with the idea of Jesus wants to believe that the "real" Jesus was someone who only said things they agreed with. People who consider themselves liberals or progressives are no different; they just assume that the parts that seem to support a conservative viewpoint were inserted by this ancient patriarchal conspiracy or something. In reality, Jesus was probably just this guy, and therefore probably said a lot of things, and never would have completely aligned with anyone on everything. A lot of conservative Christians would find themselves pissed off at his views about the wealthy; many liberals would find themselves pissed off by his shitty takes on divorce.

If you want actionable advice? Start studying other religions and spiritual worldviews. Read other holy texts. There's other stuff out there to get into.
