tumblr being all adults nowadays is so funny because my mutuals are either unemployed chainsmokers or Ezra, Bioengineering PHD Candidate at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
There are sides of your teeth that never get brushed because they are touching other teeth.
You should floss
File under: even more blatant proof cis people can joke about trans people without it being at their expense
I don't think employers should be legally allowed to ask anyone to dress up for interviews. I should be able to walk in off the street in jeans, sneakers, and a T-shirt and interview for jobs because employers are supposed to be interviewing me and my skills, training, education, and experience, not the nicest clothes in my closet.
It's discriminatory towards poor people to ask otherwise.
It's also just fucking audacious to demand that the people you need to provide the labor to keep your workplace going put on a suit and dance around like a trained monkey before you've even hired them.
I also think starting work clothes need to be added to the list of necessary things that employers should be paying their employees for, along with their commutes.
If you need me to work your job and you need me to wear scrubs and nonslip shoes to work your job then you should be buying me scrubs and nonslip shoes so I have something to wear to work your job.
In summary clothing should not be a barrier to employment and jobs should not have the right to make demands of your wardrobe and wallet.
If you want to know some knowledge that will piss you off:
In various higher paying jobs, especially anything related to STEM (you know that thing that everyone apparently is supposed to have a goal towards if not business), your employer DOES provide your clothes for you.
I've worked in my clinic for just over a year and my employer has provided roughly 700 dollars worth of uniform. I know this because I receive a voucher to spend as cash to purchase my work clothes, so I have the actual dollar amount. This is partially because even a cheap shirt and pants combo is about 40-50 bucks minimum but still, that's 700 dollars of uniform I do not have to buy.
When I worked my first minimum wage job I had to find and purchase my work clothes myself. When I worked for a company that "provided" work clothes, they mean they provided two work shirts and the rest I had to either buy from the company uniform website myself or I had to use my own clothes and wallet and shopping time. Working at my current job, the only thing I have to buy with my own money is socks and shoes.
A map of abandoned and out-of-service railroad lines
There are a LOT of lines that could be rehabilitated and put back into service, if there was any actual will to invest in alternatives to cars in the USA, especially east of the Rockies.

I don't like to add to the noise of Software Developer Do Dumb Thing, but I feel like this is as if the Japanese government sent me an email going "it turns out there are a lot of you named Kenji Tanaka, so to solve this problem we are retiring passport numbers"
Our username system makes it difficult for folks fluent in other languages to express themselves. That's why we're moving to a system like the one on Twitter, where every Asian artist forced to get an alphanumeric username has a handle like @bc2931a or @2023jx or @wabababxa_, which is very easy to remember and shows how versatile alphanumeric handles are at expressing one's non-English-speaking self
Discord's post trying to convince me that we're somehow now extremely allergic to the idea of sharing a number, despite the fact that Nintendo, that video game company that makes stuff for actual children, has had no problem with its users sharing IDs that are 14 digits long
i'm both dumber and smarter than you think so don't underestimate me because i'm actually smart about a lot of stuff but also don't be surprised if i'm dumb about some other stuff hope that helps
I think this picture of my gf helping fix my car should be in the MoMa
this is to the guy in the electronics department at walmart who when I approached and said “game” because it was the only word that would come to me, went “yeah” and walked me straight to tears of the kingdom, no questions asked
I've said this before and I'll say it again: it's more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It's performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.
This is ultimately why propaganda is going to work on you. Because you never learned how to think for yourself and the actual ideology behind things. You simply rely on group think and the bare minimum explanations to tell you what's good and bad.
