Stray thoughts: Foreshadowing in Steven Universe

One of the things I adore most about SU has to be how there are foreshadowing of future events cleverly snuck into seemingly innocuous scenes or dialogue. Take these two lines from ‘Cat Fingers’ (Season 1, Episode 6) for example.

And, most outrageously, there’s even this minute detail of a shot from ‘The Return’ that most people would ignore–

–that turned out to be something important in Peridot’s redemption arc, 21 episodes before it was created in-show.*

(Mind you, ‘The Return’ was only the third time we saw Peridot.)

Hell, you can even see it in material outside of the show. Like the friendships between Peridot and Lapis and Peridot and Amethyst supposedly being foreshadowed in some of Hilary Florido’s promo artworks, all released during a time when these relationships seem extremely unlikely to ever happen.
