*Me waking up in a cold sweat at 3am*

I JUST REALIZED NINTENDO GAVE US THE BIGGEST TOTK SPOILER IN EVERY TRAILER BECAUSE OF THE MUSIC. ZELDAS LULLABY AT THE END OF THE TEASERS & TRAILERS WAS THE FORESHADOWING. THE LULLABY, OBVIOUSLY BEING ZELDA, AND THE TUNE BEING PLAYED ON THE ERHU OF ALL INSTRUMENTS, WHICH IS MOST PROMINENTLY USED IN THE DRAGON THEMES IN BOTW. THEY LITERALLY GAVE IT TO US FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. IM GONNA D WORD

it’s funny how jon’s character was inspired by a figure from welsh mythology who defeated an undead army by being sacrificed to its power source but the subversive female hero who’s been defying death her whole life is the one expected to sacrifice herself.

Very interested to learn more about this mythology. Anyone mind sharing?

ppl in the asoiaf/got fandom will really be like “IF U HATE SANSA STARK YOU HATE WOMEN btw daenerys is an evil spoiled privileged bitch who will go on to become the ultimate villain of the series and get murdered by jon so he can go off and marry sansa. arya is a soulless emotionless assassin who has male privilege and does nothing but run around killing people and only exists to prop sansa and be her cheerleader/servant aren’t we great feminists lol”

Over here thinking about how to some people the idea of "a man cheating on his good, devoted wife" is worst than anything that could ever happen.

I've seen way more people complain about Rheagar "cheating" on Elia than people complaining about Tywin or Gregor Clegane for literally murdering her. It baffles me.

Oh the cheating discourse has got to be one of THE most annoying debates on the internet to be honest. I think that for most fans, it's them being young and not having much of real life experience. Cheating is SO not the worst think that a man can do to you honey, this intense neo-puritanism is really pissing me off. In a timeline that has Robert, Tywin and Rhaegar (with the first two being foils of the second, of course), somehow, it's Rhaegar that is reduced to this big monster because he abandoned his lawful wife for another woman. When I ask these people "hey, why is nobody talking about the other two and the horrible shit they did during/after Robert's Rebellion" they answer "oh we hold them accountable anyway but it's not interesting hating on them (?)" or even better, they are actually making excuses for them! I know a BNF here that is a huge Tywin stan (predominantly a Joanna stan but loves Tywin) and simultaneously believes that Rhaegar is a rapist.

Robert is a canon rapist and abuser in the books, canon, stated, clear as day, and Tywin literally ordered Elia's murder (was it just her murder). Her Murder. Of her and her children. But sure Jan, the toxic male was Rhaegar who just...cheated. And abandoned his ARRANGED marriage for another woman. Give me a fucking break. Rhaegar was the only decent human being amongst all these pathetic scumbags and the text says so, repeatedly, from multiple POVs.

Alicent takes the words of a drugged up, delirious, dying man seriously (and no not as an excuse, it's clear now that Alicent is delusional and not very bright). She, the Queen, doesn’t know her own people are plotting to seat her son on the throne and her people don’t think enough of her to include her in planning. Then for good measure they show her, the Queen, letting herself be used as a sexual fetish because that’s all she, a Queen, can offer ? Forced to show her feet for her orders to be followed ?

She’s been relegated to being a victim (yet again) of misinterpretation from the king and betrayal from her father. Her motivation for putting her son on the throne is because it was her husband's dying wish. Always the obedient wife. HOTD reduced her into an incompetent, indecisive and hesitant goody two-shoes character, left out of the loop of men's plans, ultimately robbing her of her agency and effectively infantilizes her.

i 100% agree and i find it mind blowing how many women insist that this is an improvement. WHY do you want her to be a victim? WHY do you want to see more sexual violence inflicted on her? WHY do you want that extremely intelligent and shrewd, politically astute woman to be reduced to a bumbling fool?

show!alicent is a terrible politician, in spite of what everyone says about how she is so much better than rhaenyra at playing the game. this scene all but cements it:

during the small council meeting, there is a mention of blackwoods and brackens having a conflict (as they always do, lol). alicent says that this is not the concern of the crown.

rhaenyra disagrees.

she knows this because she saw it with her own eyes during her betrothal tour. i think they were in storm's end when that little guy and a bracken dickhead started an argument and the guy killed him.

alicent scoffs at this. why? two noble houses, known for having beef that goes back centuries, are at each other's throats again. it is within the crown's competence to solve this.

then tyland addresses the stepstones.

rhaenyra says that the stepstones was not fortified enough and that's why the situation is unstable.

alicent of course has to go against rhaenyra no matter what.

and rhaenyra:

and that's true, raising taxes to build fortifications would strain the crown less than another war in the stepstones. because of course it would.

lastly, rhaenyra comes with a proposal that would end the wedge between the two branches of house targaryen and make helaena a literal queen of the seven kingdoms.

this is an excellent match, one that would put alicent's blood on the throne, just one generation later. what does alicent do? you know what.

show!alicent in episodes 6-7 operates solely on spite, on undermining rhaenyra any chance she has, thus her political prowess is nonexistent. episodes 8-9 alicent regresses back to being otto's pawn, is the queen of the seven kingdoms but can't build a reliable network of spies, does not have her own ambitions and is just a mindless pawn of otto, zero intelligence, zero shrewdness, just endless naivety and idiocy. this is your queen? this is your nuanced character?

every other fandom would've rebelled if a woman was reduced to a passive victim subjected to sexual violence AND an idiot at that. here this is hailed as nuance, her victimhood is celebrated, her idiocy put on a pedestal. why?

Arya and Gendry already associated the comet with a sword in her first chapter.I think it adds to the Lightbringer are the dragons (and Dany as the prince that was promised) theory because we know the comet is essentially about the birth of the dragons. So now the dragons are indirectly associated with a sword and a bleeding star.

trying to work out how ppl simultaneously hate sansa for being naive and stan lyanna and use her as a nlog self insert

I mean, people don’t ‘hate Sansa for being naive’ from what I have seen?

Sansa gets criticized for:

  • Being a classist bully and mocking her sister for simply being different and ugly, and for playing with the smallfolk children like Mycah
  • For supporting Joffrey over her little sister after Joffrey attacks Arya with a sword and tries to harm/kill her
  • For victim blaming Arya and Mycah for what happened to Lady, when it was Cersei who ordered the death of her wolf, right in front of Sansa
  • For selfishly tattling all of Ned’s plans to Cersei when Ned warns her that KL is dangerous and the Lannisters are not to be trusted
  • For throwing Arya under the bus when she tells Cersei that Arya is the traitor, not her - despite knowing what is done to traitors considering her father is in the dungeons for being one.
  • For wishing that Margaery was her sister rather than Arya simply because Margaery was more beautiful

We actually have Sansa’s POV chapters and can read her thoughts and see how she treats her little sister. Lyanna is a tertiary character about whom we know very little and see glimpses of in nebulous fever dreams and visions.

What little we do know indicates that Lyanna and Sansa have very different personalities. Unlike Sansa being in love with Joffrey because he was beautiful - despite seeing him sadistically mutilate another child and attack her little sister Arya - Lyanna was able to see right through Robert and his infidelity. Lyanna stands up to the bullies and helps Howland Reed like Arya tried to help Mycah. Sansa sides with the bully Joffrey instead of the victim Mycah.

It’s very easy to dislike Sansa and like Lyanna as characters. They seem to be completely different in terms of personality and characterization. Arya/Lyanna are written as foils to Sansa.

Also the sexism just jumps out when the world ‘nlog’ is thrown around for any female character who is not like Sansa and stands up to the patriarchy. And self-insert? The fact that popular Sansa headcanons have no connection at all to the book version and she is shipped with every Tom, Dick and Harry out  there tells us which character is really the fandom self-insert around here. The absolute lack of self-awareness in this post is what is confusing.
