“That’s why high school, or a crappy job, or any other restrictive circumstance can be dangerous: They make dreams too painful to bear. To avoid longing, we hunker down, wait, and resolve to just survive. Great art becomes a reminder of the art you want to be making, and of the gigantic world outside of your small, seemingly inescapable one. We hide from great things because they inspire us, and in this state, inspiration hurts.”

I am being HAUNTED right now by the ghosts of fruits and other treats that went bad while I was saving them, of events I did not enjoy as much as I could because I was upset that they arrived too fast and would thus be over soon, of places I didn’t go because it was somehow not the right time for it, I wasn’t equipped to enjoy it yet, it’s a TREAT, it’s SPECIAL, you can’t waste it on any old regular day.
The ghosts of art I haven’t made and skills I haven’t developed prowl around the margins like hungry spirits.
FUCK how did this man hit me in the soul that hard from having never even seen me?
