PLEASE READ. WILL NOT HURT TO AND FORWARD. Kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in plastic drink bottles and capping it up - leaving it on lawns, in mail boxes, in gardens, on driveways etc. just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the rubbish, but you’ll never make it!!!

If the bottle is picked up, and the bottle is shaken even just a little - in about 30 seconds or less it builds up enough gas which then explodes with enough force to remove some your extremities. The liquid that comes out is boiling hot as well. Don’t pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the gutter, etc. Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water. A small piece of foil. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!! No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc. Please ensure that everyone that may not have email access are also informed of this.

I’ve dealt with these before. If you find one:

  • Do not touch it
  • Do not touch it
  • Clear the area around it. It will explode on its own in time.
  • Once it explodes, do not make contact with the liquid inside. If needed, flush it away with large amounts of water.
  • Do not try to detonate it. You’ll probably be disfigured.

I’ve seen what these can do. The acidic liquid inside can strip the paint off a car.

when i visited vancouver these were everywhere. it’s not a fucking joke they’re actually scary

Just a reminder that there are awful shitty people out there doing awful shitty things to everyone else

there was a bunch of these at disneyland

i found one in my back yard, when i let my dogs out, i pulled them back inside, took my cousins bb shotgun and shot it from a safe distance (i was in my house and shot from the screen door. When it went off, my family and neighbors came running to see if everything was ok. I told them what happened and to watch out for them.

These things are not a joke! When we went to check the damage there was a fucking hole in the ground. The dirt in my yard is like CLAY.

This shit is bad news

PLEASE DON’T BE AN ASSHAT. PLEASE DON’T LEAVE BOMBS IN PEOPLE’S YARDS.

Please spread this information!

Shared before, but sharing again.

this isnt my blog type but its really important

Please be aware and be careful. These can harm people, pets, property and wildlife.

If you see one, keep your distance and wait for it to go off on its own.

My brother delt with one by putting a large metal bowl over it, but that’s extremely dangerous as well.

Be safe please.

SIGNAL BOOST. I HAVEN’T SEEN THESE BUT WILL KEEP A LOOK OUT.

[My chemistry professor told us about these this week because we’ve been learning about the main ingredient in Draino, Sodium Hydroxide.]

LET THE WORLD KNOW!!!

Someone from Walmart was fired for their pro union stance, so r/walmart is filled with pro union memes it’s great

They’re also trying to unionize

the intricate ritual of fighting back to back against an enemy horde w someone

the intimacy of knowing your partner’s moves and combat style so well that you adapt your own to complement it so that you form a more effective team in battle

the romanticism of passionately kissing your battle partner when the fighting is over while you’re both still covered in dirt and gore and surrounded by smoking rubble and the corpses of your enemies

happy amazon strike day, good omens fandom! remember that today is a great day NOT to watch good omens, as is tomorrow! go outside! write a fanfic! join the iww!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I can tell, boycotting Amazon and all its services is completely pointless? Isn’t the whole point that the staff are going on strike, which inconveniences the customer, and therefore puts pressure on the company to listen? If we’re all just not using Amazon or any of their services at the same time, then it’s technically not going to do anything other than push all their sales and stuff back by a few days, which they’re probably not even going to care about???

alright good question! not buying from a company that currently has workers on strike helps the effectiveness of the strike because it demonstrates support for the strike from the customers. two days of low profits is something a business notices, especially when it’s something like prime day where they’ve invested a lot in adverising on the gamble that big discounts will attract more customers and create a net profit despite selling things for less

it’s the same reason picketers in front of grocery stores or what have you try to stop you from going in. buying from a company that has a strike going on is scabbing because it diminishes the effectiveness of the strike

I have a follow up question. How does this affect the numbers? If you boycott amazon on a day of a sale, then you’re essentially telling the company that you won’t buy from them when their prices are the lowest? I guess I understand striking during a sale because the quantity of sales typically go up, but couldn’t this just be an excuse for the company to not have another prime day and work their employees even harder? I tried looking it up but I can’t find anything referencing this particular concern. I get boycotting during a strike but I guess my confusion is why it happens on one of the biggest sale days

so there are a couple of reasons to hold a strike on prime day specifically. it’s a day that’s going to generate a lot more publicity for the strike, and it’s a day amazon has invested a lot more money in. sales that aren’t clearance are high risk/high reward for a company which is why amazon puts so much effort into advertising prime day in the first place. it’s a day that should give them a higher net profit than usual, which is why both a work stoppage and a boycott on prime day is effective

as for your other question about the consequences, if it wasn’t prime day i’m sure the workers would go with black friday or the day of a major product release or something like that. and to the second part of that question, well, two things

  • what you’re describing is retaliation. there are laws against that sort of thing, although they aren’t always the strongest and amazon has some damn good lawyers i’m sure
  • the fact of the matter is every strike risks some kind of consequence. that’s why it’s so important to support strikers however you can. if they fail it could be bad for them, but if they succeed that’s a win for workers all over the usa and the world

propaganda works, it’s why cops are worshipped, it’s why the military is worshipped, it’s also why low income workers are treated like dirt.

we’ve been exposed to propaganda our entire lives telling us that low income workers don’t matter. that you need to work hard so you don’t become a low income worker. that if you become a low income worker you failed.

that’s not true. that’s all propaganda we’ve been fed since we were children.

supporting strikes, like the amazon warehouse strike, by boycotting amazon until the warehouse workers are done striking, is a way to improve the public image of low income workers, in this specific case, of amazon warehouse workers.

it’s a way to show the public they can be powerful.

it’s important to get behind this sort of action organized by low income workers because we all need them to know they’re important, and we all need to know they’re important.

you can’t do anything against a capitalist when workers have no power. by believing in low income workers, by supporting them, we are encouraging them, we are telling them they can keep going. we are telling them they should keep going.

none of us win when we treat important labor like dirt. none of us will win if we don’t jump at a chance to support our fellow workers.

Please reblog if you think that “they/them/theirs” is a valid set of pronouns.

this post must be reblogged by everyone

Nothing but support for MY nonbinary people who prefer they/them to binary pronouns 💚

As a child who’s mum doesn’t respect their pronouns,

PSA💛: I saw this by Now This on Snapchat (pic creds to them) about a little angel who was badly hurt after licking Himalayan salt. A lot of us have these salt lamps and stones to purify the space and use in our craft so I felt the need to share and remind everyone to be mindful of what we leave in our familiars' reach. Definitely keep your salts, potentially harmful herbs, and toxic crystals away from your nosey helpers and avoid a horrible accident like what happened here with Ruby💛 Blessings.

You wanna know some impressive shit? The Cuttlefish is colorblind, and yet despite that it can change its colors PERFECTLY to mimic its surroundings.

IT CAN EVEN DO THIS IN TOTAL DARKNESS

HOW THE FUCK

Just like Daredevil, they can probably feel the vibrations of different color textures via sound waves or some other bullshit.

Oh the truth is even more bullshit than that, if recent deductions are correct:

Because every color is a different wavelength, it’s possible to have a lens focused in such a way that only one color at a time is clear and others are blurry. So it seems that the eyes of cephalopods rapidly “sweep” across every possible level of focus. It might all look like different shades of grey to them, but in just an instant, their powerful brain registers exactly which shades of grey come clear at exactly which levels of focus and tells the skin which chromatophores to switch on and off to match that shade as close as possible. *focusfocusfocusfocusblurblurblurblurblurblur* I don’t know what these other assholes are seeing but THESE greys in THIS situation sure seem to confuse them”

One of my favourite parts of working with kids is like… Very Gently subverting their idea of gendered topics… Like if a girl goes ‘no, sharks are a boy thing’ and you go “UM ACTUALLY THATS STUPID AND INCORRECT” they get freaked out, but if instead u go “Are you sure? Cause I think sharks are awesome, here’s a scale picture of a Megalodon” it’ll blow their tiny mind and they’ll be shitting themselves over it for days. 100% effective, 10/10 recommend

Good example of this happened in a class I taught recently. Kids were making predictions about a text we’d be studying based on an illustration of the character: boy with spiky blonde hair wearing a pink football kit.

The first kid to respond said, “I think this is a girl that likes to play football.” I said “what gave you the idea that the character is a girl?” Obviously they pointed out the pink, to which I replied how pink was one of my fave colours and they just looked at me wide-eyed. Then the next said, “No it’s got to be a boy. He’s got short spiky hair.” Of course, I then listed all the female people they might’ve heard of who also have short spiky hair and, honestly, the puzzled looks on their little faces were priceless.

Anyway, they continued to debate which gender the character was using phrases like: “but he … and look at his …” or “so why is she … and maybe her …” which was the point I decided to stop them and ask: “If we can’t be sure whether the character is a he or she, should we really be using those pronouns?” And I kid you not, without any persuasion from me and after only the briefest of discussions, these children unanimously agreed that the best pronoun to use would be “they” until they knew their gender for certain. They then continued their discussion using gender neutral terms throughout without any fuss whatsoever. And these are 6 and 7 year olds.

Hey the message of this post is great and all but ‘a scale picture of a meglodon’ what the f u CK

Honestly my seven year old neice screamed once I told her that girls can have short hair and now shes pestering her mum for short and also blue hair

Have I told y’all about my husband’s Fork Theory?  If I did already, pretend I didn’t, I’m an old.

So the Spoon Theory is a fundamental metaphor used often in the chronic pain/chronic illness communities to explain to non-spoonies why life is harder for them. It’s super useful and we use that all the time. But it has a corollary.  You know the phrase, “Stick a fork in me, I’m done,” right? Well, Fork Theory is that one has a Fork Limit, that is, you can probably cope okay with one fork stuck in you, maybe two or three, but at some point you will lose your shit if one more fork happens.  A fork could range from being hungry or having to pee to getting a new bill or a new diagnosis of illness. There are lots of different sizes of forks, and volume vs. quantity means that the fork limit is not absolute. I might be able to deal with 20 tiny little escargot fork annoyances, such as a hangnail or slightly suboptimal pants, but not even one “you poked my trigger on purpose because you think it’s fun to see me melt down” pitchfork.

This is super relevant for neurodivergent folk. Like, you might be able to deal with your feet being cold or a tag, but not both. Hubby describes the situation as “It may seem weird that I just get up and leave the conversation to go to the bathroom, but you just dumped a new financial burden on me and I already had to pee, and going to the bathroom is the fork I can get rid of the fastest.”

I like this and also I like the low key point that you may be able to cope with bigger forks by finding little ones you can remove quickly. A combination of time, focus, and reduction to small stressors that can allow you to focus on the larger stressor in a constructive way.
