This picture has been circulating all over social media and I have more to add:

  • Delete all period cycle tracking apps off your phone today.
  • Do not tell anyone why you want to take your trip, especially over text/apps.
  • Do not tell anyone the real state/destination of your trip.
  • Have everyone on your trip turn off their phones. Use written directions or a burner phone. Do not use burner phone to open any personal apps. Dispose of after trip.
  • Only use cash while purchasing ANYTHING on your trip.
  • Take “vacation” photos to post later. Be cautious of geo-tags/only post screenshots of the original photos.

Some people might say this is being extra or overly precautious, but this really is the reality we are facing. People have been imprisoned with murder charges in certain states- some for literal miscarriages. If you are a person that ends up in this situation, the state can and will use your data against you as evidence in court. Do not leave a paper trail. If they want to treat us like criminals, we’re gonna move like criminals.

Once again @everyone: REBLOG stuff you like!

And DONT REPOST stuff that’s already here! WHY do we even have to go through this again huh? DON’T. DO. IT.

And if you share something from a different platform that isn’t on tumblr already you ASK the creator for permission and then give CREDIT!

reblog, don’t repost, this

Terminology reminder: reblogging is Tumblr’s in-site sharing system but REPOSTING is saving a picture from a post and then making your own post

I have seen genuine confusion about this in the past (largely from ppl more used to other sites that don’t have a reblog system) that’s the only reason I’m adding the explanation

(1) Hello everyone. I'm from Ukraine. Please help spread the information about African and Nigerian students in Ukraine. #AfricansinUkraine

I read from @ nzekiev on twitter that the day before yesterday it was very hard for Africans to get on any train in Kyiv, they were letting them in the last, many managed to get in only coz they started pushing African women into the train so they had to allow everyone in. Before that if they managed to get on the train they were sent back outside with the phrase "Ukrainians first", but nobody was checking anyone's passports.

Today, February 27, he says the Ukrainian soldiers at the Polish border were holding them at gunpoint if they crossed the border before Ukrainians. These are students, they can't be fighting this war!!! Other people of color share on twitter that it's harder for them to cross the border, a Nigerian medical student told @ stephheharty they were told Ukrainians go first and were sent to the back of the queue by Ukrainian soldiers on Polish border.

@ Damilare_arah shared a video where Ukrainian soldiers block Africans from getting on trains. (https://twitter.com/Damilare_arah/status/1497654141350522880?t=rkNx-B9TffKopCRtfgZodA&s=19)

I can't figure out how to download videos from Twitter so I'm attaching screenshots. (https://twitter.com/Damilare_arah/status/1497855205098106880?t=gi_dUgx8nFI36KqlH-CeEA&s=19) (https://twitter.com/nzekiev/status/1497805019311218689?t=hz-3gS0hFxwAZQddLZI85w&s=19)

We must help. They can't be denied shelter while every other white Ukrainian gets to cross the border right before their eyes. @ chylady and @ Damilare_arah share all the important information for Africans and Nigerians on where to find help and also donations.

@ korrinesky is actively sharing all the information. This thread increases to this day and time:

They also have a Telegram chat for African and Caribbean students who are in Lviv but I can't seem to be able to copy the link directly so I'm sending the link to the tweet:

Use the hashtag #AfricansinUkraine and mentions @UN @RedCross @UNESCO @wateraid @amnesty @gatesfoundation @FordFoundation @ActionAid @Oxfam on twitter.

Help for Ukrainian refugees in Romania from citizens and NGOs

I'm compiling a list of NGOs and people who are looking to help out Ukrainians fleeing war and coming to Romania in this period. Most of the NGOs are accepting donations, including from other countries. Please share this around so Ukrainian people can get the help they need and so others who are looking to donate can do so to verified NGOs.

  • Refugees can contact the Romanian National Council for Refugees for legal help. Their eng site here.
  • Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Romania offer support for accommodation, food and other basic items, as well as medical assistance. They have support teams in the Northern and Eastern parts of Romania but can also provide support in other areas as needed. They accept donations. Here is their FB post in English.
  • International transport company Romfour offers free bus rides to Ukrainian citizens arriving at the Siret customs point who want to get to bus or train stations. They can also transport refugees to Italy free of charge (every Friday) and offer discounts on other international routes (such as France or Germany). Further details here. According to the media, transport company Tarsin provides similar services, also free of charge - more here.
  • Fight for Freedom provides accommodation and food at its centers in Veresti and Burdujeni in Suceava county. They're sharing updates and information on their Facebook page - here. You can donate on their website.
  • Dyno Lake fishing complex in the county of Calarasi also announced that it could offer accommodation to Ukrainian refugees - further details here.
  • Complexul Turistic Costești also joined the list of local businesses supporting Ukrainians with accommodation and food. No more rooms were available on Friday morning, but they said they would publish updates regularly. More details here.
  • Local businessman Stefan Mandachi offers accommodation at his hotel in Suceava (limited spaces), as well as free meals at the Spartan restaurant in the city centre (Ukrainians need to show an ID card). Plus, those who want to make donations can do so at the same restaurant, and the businessman is also working on setting up special spaces for pets. He's updating the information on Facebook - here.
  • MOOD Coffee in Gura Humorului is also offering free meals to Ukrainian refugees. Their facebook page here.
  • The Caradja Cantacuzino Association in Bucharest collects packages with essential goods for the Ukrainian refugees. Those interested can help with clothes, hygiene products, face masks, baby products, blankets, or towels. More details here.
  • Local organization LOGS is raising funds for the Ukrainian refugees. Further details here.
  • Several organizations have also offered support and assistance to Ukrainian citizens coming to Romania with their pets. Among them, Clubul de Excelenta Canina Patrocle BrasovCasa lui PatrocleSave our Paws Association in Iasi, MegaDreams Pet Taxi in Iasi, and Fight for Animals in Baia Mare.
  • Uniti pentru Ucraina (United for Ukraine) is a Facebook group where people are organizing themselves to offer help where it's needed (from offering clothing/food, to offering to drive people to other cities, to offering accommodation; I even saw a post asking if there's a need for blood donations for refugees).
  • A lot of city halls and local NGOs are setting up places where you can donate food, clothes, hygiene products etc. please google your specific city! (I sadly couldn't find a directory of all of them)
  • Ukrainian speakers in Romania can contact the Students' Association in Maramures if they can help with coordinating the refugees at the border. More details here.
  • Code for Romania, an NGO that works on creating tech solutions for societal issues, announced they're working on an ecosystem meant to combat war-related fake news as well as aid refugees. They will provide information on accommodation spaces available across the country, resource & volunteer management, or the roles of institutional actors in this emergency situation. Plus, they plan to launch an information and support platform for people who will ask for help from Romania. You can donate to them here (they also have a Paypal link!).

Jan 18, 2022: US couple in danger of being forced to leave our baby daughter overseas

TL;DR: We’re an interracial, neurodivergent US couple in the Philippines. I’m also physically disabled. A paperwork snafu left our daughter (born here during lockdown) stateless, and Immigration is skeptical about an extension to our visas while we get it sorted, meaning they may force us to leave without our daughter in MARCH.

There’s a guaranteed way for ONE of us to stay, but it costs 10K USD PLUS other fees, and we don’t have that just laying around. I cannot begin to imagine the trauma to El if they force us to leave without her, not knowing when we’ll see each other again.

Secondary Paypal Link (bc some non-US folks had trouble with the preferred one–but this one takes full fees)

Details, for those who want the whole story:

Jan 25, and we’re halfway there! Thanks to everyone who has donated or reblogged so far! Since we can’t even APPLY for an extension until Feb, I’m hoping the process will buy us some more time. We’ve also reached out to US lawmakers, but no help there yet.

Like I said above, we’re halfway there. (We’d be even closer if I hadn’t had to be on oxygen for a month from COVID.) If you can help or reblog, please do, because we’re running out of time. Thanks to those who already have.

Jan 31 update:

Even though they’re talking about opening up in mid-Feb, El would still not be able to travel with us. (And yes, we’ve contacted Citizen Services at the embassy, and US lawmakers, none of which are able to do anything. Zoey has been trying to build enough Karma to be allowed to post to reddit fundraising groups, but still can’t.)

And just like last time they were set to reopen, a new variant just dropped, and an older virus is now resurgent, meaning that even if we could fly out to reset (a temporary solution that would still cost thousands), the rate at which travel restrictions change means there’s no guarantee we could return to her. (Even the inter-CITY travel restrictions have changed before with zero notice, let ALONE the international ones.)

This would leave our baby stuck stateless in the Philippines without her parents for an indefinite period of time–remember the current restrictions have lasted for two years now. And there would be no one here with authority to complete her paperwork.

We want desperately to believe that they would not be so heartless as to forcibly separate us, but the local immigration office gives us only a 50/50 chance on another extension, so we don’t know, and we can’t leave this up to chance.

Even if they DO extend us again, all that does is buy us some time while we try to save (and beg for) the money for the SRRV and associated expenses. Like I said before, we’re fine on day to day stuff, but we don’t have the literal thousands for that just sitting around. Even El’s birth was only about 3K USD, but the SRRV (with fees) is about 12K, PLUS all the associated expenses.

Hell, I’m putting off needed surgery, and have even started weaning myself off of some of my more expensive medications to save money.

The one ray of hope is that if I can get the SRRV, that would cover El and me, and then @thesurestthing might be able to sort of piggyback onto that with a balikbayan visa (more money, but we gotta do what we can).

And by the way, that separating families because of bureaucracy and paperwork thing? The US does it to foreign nationals all the time, and the Philippines model is largely based on the US model. So you can see why we’re scared.

Rape has become endemic in South Africa, so a medical technician named Sonette Ehlers developed a product that immediately gathered national attention there. Ehlers had never forgotten a rape victim telling her forlornly, “If only I had teeth down there.

Some time afterward, a man came into the hospital where Ehlers works in excruciating pain because his penis was stuck in his pants zipper.

Ehlers merged those images and came up with a product she called Rapex. It resembles a tube, with barbs inside. The woman inserts it like a tampon, with an applicator, and any man who tries to rape the woman impales himself on the barbs and must go to an emergency room to have the Rapex removed.

When critics complained that it was a medieval punishment, Ehlers replied tersely, “A medieval device for a medieval deed.”

A medieval device for a medieval deed - yes.

This is perfect

BLESS THIS PERSON

I BOW TO THIS INTENTION

Can we talk about how beautifully this turns rape culture on its head? Instead of “If they weren’t dressed like that they wouldn’t have been raped” THIS IS LITERALLY “IF THEY HADN’T TRIED TO RAPE SOMEONE THEY  WOULDN’T HAVE SPIKES IN THEIR DICK”*

That bold bit~

people are talking more about the grammys than the uk govt trying to screw over queer and abused kids but sucks to be us i guess

look ik the uk sucks but if this law goes through so many queer kids and kids living in abusive households are going to be put in danger. ‘the govt won’t pass this law haha’ they have shown time and time again that they don’t give a fuck. they literally do not give a fuck, ESPECIALLY where lgbtq+ kids are involved. they would rather have the personal information of minors spread around the internet than keep queer kids safe and nobody gives a fuck

the stated purpose of the proposed law is to “Make it a legal requirement when opening a new social media account, to provide a verified form of ID. Where the account belongs to a person under the age of 18 verify the account with the ID of a parent/guardian, to prevent anonymised harmful activity, providing traceability (…) To make the law work needs the removal of anonymity to ensure that users cannot cause harm by using online platforms to abuse others. Where an offence has taken place they ought to be easily identified and reported to the police and punished.” people this law would harm:

  • immigrants who do not have a valid, formal ID, prohibiting them from communicating, raising awareness about their situation, fundraising, networking for jobs, etc
  • lgbt+, neurodivergent, mentally ill, and politically active minors under their parents’ roofs
  • ANYBODY lgbt+, especially, given the uk government’s current stance of open hostility towards them, trans women. the idea of the government being able to trace any trans woman’s profile to their real identity…
  • acitivists– considering priti “literal, actual, cackling disney villain” patel is currently being very successful with her bill that prohibits protest and gives a maximum 10-year prison sentence for defacing a statue, it’s safe to say that the government is at the very least hostile to racial, climate, and gender justice movements to name a few. the government would be able to attach any social media account which posts about these topics to a real person’s identity and address.

even if you’re not from the uk, please reblog this to raise awareness! if you ARE, go here to email your MP and ask them to oppose the law.

katie price is framing this as a crusade against online bigotry on behalf of her disabled son in order to garner sympathy, and my heart goes out to her, but this is incredibly dangerous. she has a LOT of clout, and the petition to pass the law has ~150,000 signatures right now, more than enough to be considered for debate in parliament.

Someone has set up a counter-petition on the government website that you can sign if you live in the UK: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/579714
