X-Men Monday with Jordan D. White

AIPT: Fair enough! Speaking of X-Factor, we now know that Polaris won the X-Men Election. But essentially, you also just stealth market-tested several other mutants who X-Fans clearly want to see more of. Is it safe to assume interest in using characters like Banshee, Tempo and Marrow among the X-Creators is higher than ever coming out of the X-Men Election?

Jordan: Yeah. So, this is the first time I’ve done an interview since the X-Men Election was over and revealed, as well as the big piece that people didn’t know about — Gerry and Pepe’s book. So I’ll start by giving you a little peek behind the curtain on that. First of all, let me emphasize that this was 100% real because I know there are folks who still are skeptical. “Oh, they were rigging it,” or “They knew this would happen.” No, we didn’t. When I went to Gerry, we had this plan. There were a lot of plans. We batted around various ideas for half a second. We thought, “Should we let people pick the entire team?” And then we ended up going no — for various reasons.

Me: And the reason why they were skeptical was because Tempo was never going to win a popular character race.

AIPT: [Laughs] Yeah, that would have been bad.

Jordan: But we liked the idea of them picking the last member. So we talked to Gerry and said, “Let’s come up with a list of 10 characters, any of whom you’d be happy to have on the team.” So we threw names out and a bunch of people suggested names. I think Leah suggested Polaris now that I mention it, but everybody was suggesting names. Gerry was like, “Yes, no, yes, no” to various ones. And we ended up with that list of 10 characters, and he had preferences over who he hoped it would be, but he was prepared and happy to write any of those folks.

Me: It was nice to see Garry chose Polaris. I wonder who he declined from the X-Factor team. Just curious as I’m sure Leah would have offered others before Polaris.

Jordan: And one of the things I said to him was, “Now, Gerry, don’t think about this too much, because if you do, you’re going to end up coming up with great ideas for every character or for a bunch of the characters that are not going to get picked. So don’t think too hard on it. Let’s just let this happen.” And for the most part, he did, but he did think of a few things. So, you actually will see a couple of those characters in various places. You know what, I’ll just say, at least a couple of them are going to show up in Marauders, because Gerry had more ideas for some of them.

I’m pretty sure Gerry and I both voted for the same person in the election, which was Tempo. First of all, I really like time powers, even though I do have very strong opinions on how they should work and end up arguing with my writers about them. I still really liked them. I liked the idea of having time powers and a character who’s only appeared a few times, but not as much as any other character on the list. I think she’s the character with the fewest appearances of anybody on the list. So kind of going in and being able to have more freedom to flesh her out and establish her more sounded great. But then again, I’m not disappointed. It was very interesting to see how it played out.

Me: If some people thought Tempo would have won against all odds, they thought wrong. You can’t compete a D-list character with an A-list character, let alone a popular character. Glad to know Jordan was not disappointed after all.

AIPT: Well, that’s a good transition to a question I got from an X-Fan claiming to be Jordan D. Lite. Other Jordan asked, what campaign staff tried to cheat the most in the X-Men Election? Were there shenanigans?

Jordan: Oh, there were major shenanigans. Not internally, but amongst the fans, there were major major shenanigans. This election was interfered with — let’s say that our agencies at Marvel were able to suss out that interference and account for it. We were able to take out the hundreds of thousands of falsely made votes. Let me start by saying if we had not, Polaris would not have won. It’d be a character who I think you’d be quite surprised about. It was mostly due to the incredibly huge amounts of votes coming from Eastern Europe, one IP address for this character. I don’t want to reveal who though. I don’t feel like I should. But here’s the other thing — it wasn’t the only one. There were a number of characters who people made attempts to rig the vote in favor of.

Me: Strangely enough. Someone was making false attempts in order to sabotage Polaris’s election but the fact that she won against all odds is amazing to say the least. Despite some people making attempts to rig the vote in favor of…, Lorna was still the higher number with more fans. Glad Marvel was able to recognize the problem.

Jordan: It was interesting to see what affected it and why. Now I know a lot of people will say or have said — and maybe they’re right. I think probably the reason Polaris won was because of TV fans because of The Gifted, and that’s probably true. And I will say, is that bad? I can’t say it’s bad. We opened it to the public. We opened it to all fans and those are fans too. And then I know people will say “No, but they’re not going to read the comics.” That might be the case. It doesn’t matter. Gerry’s still into it. We’re going to write good comics for it. It’s going to be awesome.

Me: “Maybe”, “I think”, “probably” are all assumptions. As far as I know this is all speculations. OF course Jordan is allowed to speculate but there are lots of different opinions about how to theorize it. I’m gonna go by the fact that she’s been around since 1968. She’s been in a lots of comics and teams. There have been many cosplayers every year. There have been many fan art every year. She has been in several games. She has been in several cartoons and was a protagonist in WATXM. She has several Marvel Action figures/Sculptures/Statues/Minimates/10 Inch/Figurines… you name it. Fortunately, she was also on screen (but so are others from the election list), AND?

Jordan is only going by the assumption of others. “Let’s postulate that she won because of The Gifted” It would be reasonable to accept any postulation that would make it more probable. Even if we postulate that she won because of The Gifted show, that still doesn’t mean it’s true. It is, at best, a postulation.

Unable to see beneath the proof, we can only theorize about what causes the haters to believe in things that don’t exist. I, for one, believe Lorna has many fans as Jordan stated the obvious reason for her winning the election is that she’s been around a long time and has acquired a fair size/amount/number of fans. And that goes to all types of fans I mentioned above. Do you know a Marvel fan that is not a MCU or TV fan? They tend to forget Polaris (also Blink and Thunderbird) have some comic fan recognition. Most of those who watched The Gifted are 70% comic fans. Many weren’t captivated by the show. The show canceled on sec season for obvious reasons…the ratings didn’t justify another season. The only thing FOX cares about is ratings and money both of which didn’t help. So, how is The Gifted popular?

So Jordan thought Sunspot had a chance to win because he was in DOFP or New Mutants films? Can we assume Banshee was in second place because he was in X-Men First Class? Cannonball had a bad showing since he was very far down the list and that was impossible to believe because he was also in the New Mutants film? So… they have more tv fans than comics? Is that what it means? Sound absurd, isn’t it? By implication it is impossible to postulate any definite inverse correlation between fans and speculation.

So glad to know (despite the uncertain gossip) Garry doesn’t care and he’s still into writing Polaris. I do have a feeling ya going to write good comics for it and is going to be awesome. I do believe in Garry and Larraz.

Jordan: And I’ll let you in on a secret, we’re planning to do this again. So you’ll have another chance and it probably won’t be the same characters. We’ll see, maybe some of them will be there, maybe some of them won’t. What’s funny is I think Polaris is the oldest character on the list? No, I think Banshee appeared before Polaris, but that means it did come down to the two oldest characters around the longest.

Me: While I agree wholeheartedly with Jordan in this, Polaris and Banshee are indeed the oldest characters and Sean is one year older than Lorna. Banshee first appeared in X-Men #28 (January 1967) whereas Polaris first appeared in X-Men #49 (October 1968 (a year apart). While this is true, we should also point out Banshee first appeared as a member of the X-Men in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975). Polaris first appeared as a member of the X-Men in X-Men #60 (September 1969), and remained a member of the team ever since. She’s been in and out of X-Men lore but she still an X-Man til this day.

Jordan: Polaris is a character who’s been around a long time and has a lot of fans. And I know that means people again have said, “Well, obviously they knew Polaris was going to win.” She’s been around the longest and therefore has had the most opportunity to gain fans. But that doesn’t mean she’s more popular, you know? There are folks on this list who, you know, have a lot of fans. I mean, again, a lot of us thought Sunspot was going to win. Who did I think was going to win? I’m trying to remember — it might’ve been Polaris that I thought was going to win, but I definitely thought Sunspot had a good shot. We did intentionally mess with people by putting both Sunspot and Cannonball on there. And I will say, man, Cannonball had a bad showing. He was very far down the list.

Me: Take a look at Jordan’s opinions against the fact that Polaris IS more popular. If she won was because she was more popular than all the losers. It is called Popular Election. “Polaris is a character who’s been around a long time and has a lot of fans.” and that is a fact.

All in all it’s been a good read. This article was very interesting and I was glad to get my hands on it. This was a good positive interview except minus “The Gifted”. I wouldn’t agree with that. Other than that I’m very pleased. Thank you Chris and Jordan. Here is the link

Polaris's campaign (OMG)

As I stated in an earlier section, Polaris one day….will rise.

OK, everyone, this is it. This is the key moment that we have been waiting for. Polaris will shine like never before thanks to a vast majority of her fans. This is the crucial moment. The victory we can never forget. OMG.

I’m So Excited OMG, OMG, OMG. It has been a pleasure and exciting for all Lorna’s hardcore fans. It’s definitely a good time to be a Polaris fan. I have so much to discuss on this Campaign So without further ado, let’s dive into the historic election.

On January 27, 2021… Marvel launched the X-Men fan vote on its website with fans encouraged to vote for their favorite choice out of ten mutants. Among the 10 candidates, Polaris was one. Marvel stated that the fan vote will be 100% responsible for the determination of the final member of this inaugural team.

Whoever got the most votes, would have an everlasting effect on the future of the X-Men and the world at large. The entire internet was at war, voting for their favorite character and Polaris had a significant lead. OUCH :)

How delightful to see Polaris in first place, with 22.20% giving her the most votes of any sitting candidate in Marvel history. Banshee is in second place with 14.60%.

The waiting (OMG). This is where the anxiety was about to take over. We waited too long where I had to tell myself It was real. It took almost 2 months for Marvel to reveal the results of the groundbreaking X-Men vote. Marvel has been slowly revealing the results of the election in a new series of mini-comics. One by one each character was losing the poll. Polaris and Banshee ended up being the last two characters up for the election. Gradually the fear began to abate.

And the winner is…………….

OMG, YESSS, POLARIS WON!!!

That means that Polaris is officially the newest member of the Krakoan X-Men team. I repeat…. Marvel readers chose Polaris to join the new X-Men team in a mega-popular fan election. I ended up calling my friends over to celebrate and talk about how popular Polaris has become given that she’s been around for 60+ years and her promotion is well deserved. In spite of that…

“The first-ever X-Men election was a huge success, receiving mainstream press and taking social media by storm. Fans everywhere campaigned for their favorite in creative and clever ways resulting in “X-MEN VOTE” trending worldwide on Twitter throughout the election. In the end, Polaris outlasted Banshee and walked away with the victory thanks to a dedicated group of fans eager to see this iconic hero step up in the franchise’s upcoming flagship title. Here were the final results:” Click here for more info Polaris Election

It was the first time Marvel ever let fan democracy play a part in electing some of the membership and as we know by now Polaris won with a seemingly overwhelming majority vote.

Following her victory, Marvel revealed the full team roster for its new Krakoa team, with some surprising faces joining Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Polaris, Rogue, Wolverine, Sunfire and Synch (don’t know him) at the Hellfire Gala. We are entering the new age of X-Men (OMG).

This team looks entirely different than we anticipated (OMG). We know the top 3 original characters are going to lead. I’m sure Polaris will lead at some point (looking at the Losers). So glad to know Polaris is the new member of the new X-Men launching in July from Gerry Duggan and Pepe Larraz. Lorna will be upgrading her costuming to the big leagues this summer and she looks AMAZING :)

BTW, the cover above is reminiscent of Jim Lee’s 1991 cover. There’s a strong indication that Polaris is getting her own variant cover. How delightful :)

STORMBREAKERS Variant Cover By Juann Cabal & Carmen Carnero    STORMBREAKERS Variant Cover By Peach Momoko & Iban Coello    STORMBREAKERS Variant Cover By RB Silva, Natacha Bustos, & Patrick Gleason    STORMBREAKERS Variant Cover By Joshua Cassara

X-Men #1 will be 48 PGS. I mean…..48 glorious PGS and I can imagine how Polaris will shine throughout the book. All Lorna’s fans are blessed knowing Pepe is the artist for the whole new X-Men tittle and Polaris is going to look gorgeous and fabulous under his pen. I mean look at her. O. M. G.

Marvel gave Jean and Rogue same old costumes, Lorna gets a new transformation. The jacket, mini skirt and high boots with her hair loose. Never mind her headdress since this is a entirely different look and I’m digging it. Talking about secondary color, haha. Yep, it’s green and black just like her previous look. These colors just look good together. I do like this look more than the last one.

Before moving forward I just want to point out the Polaris and Banshee panel by Zeb Wells, David Messina and Rachelle Rosenberg had me liking Lorna. The look on her face is for the haters, lol.

Her gown (created by David Baldeon) has some definition and I’m going to start with the lines because it’s an alternative way to represent the information of Magnetic Field with the use of field lines in Lorna’s dress. Magnetic field lines never cross and are naturally bunched together in regions. Magnetic field lines are continuous, forming closed loops without beginning or end. Her V neck (almost to her belly button) dress is appealing. Her hair (“wet” slicked back hairstyle) looks very polished, very sexy, very modern I just love this look. Super simple, but dramatic. This majestic high collar (maybe a hoodie) is a great touch but most daring dress if you ask me. Only Lorna can show how to actually wear a sheer dress.

Over all, it’s a great fancy dress. Ok, now, let’s get back on track :)

Election season is finally over for the X-Men. All we need now is the 1st Annual Hellfire Gala. “This June, the Hellfire Trading Company invites readers everywhere to the inaugural Hellfire Gala as they announce the first team of Krakoan X-Men to the world—and reveal the startling plans that mutantkind has in store for the Marvel Universe.” OMG.

Planet-Size X-Men, a special double-sized one-shot, will be drawn by Pepe Larraz and written by Gerry Duggan. It is absolutely the most important issue of the month. So excited, but what I don’t understand is why Marvel revealed the winner when we were told this won’t be known until Planet-Size X-Men #1? I couldn’t quite catch that. They should’ve kept it as a secret for the reason that Polaris would’ve blown us away. I’m still buying the book because I’m intrigued about the Gala fashion. Also, I hope Polaris won’t be wearing the sheer dress. At least with that she will still blow us away. If that is true it is a strong indication that something more is required than we are anticipating. I cant wait to see.

Anyway, with so much excitement, people ended up making a lot of searches about Lorna’s victory (me included) and the result was this…….

Isn’t that amazing? Not only she was trending on Google but also on Twitter.

15 THOUSAND TWEETS of Polaris alone. Everybody was tweeting during the election and that’s how many people mentioned her. A very popular number if you ask me (OMG).

So, what’s to judge? NOTHING!! She rose to fame as the winner of the most popular vote by a HUGE percentage.

Congratulations to Polaris for winning the X-Men fan vote. YES! She definitely deserves to be among Krakoa’s champions. Lorna is being announced as one of Krakoa’s first officially sanctioned X-Men team. There’s no denying that Polaris is totally worthy of the gig. I’ve never been so content. It was good to see her on a new X-Men team (once again), new direction, new costume, new book and new personality. I don’t know about you guys, but I am really excited to see this new iteration of the X-men.

Unlike previous iterations in the X-Men lineup, this team is so rich and fleshed out. They will be interacting with each other in unique ways and that seems to be the case. New interactions are one of the things I’m looking forward to the most. New directions are often very exciting and stimulating, particularly when they’re especially hard and challenging (In Duggan we trust). Many of Lorna’s fans have a strong desire for new directions, which I actually voted for.

The new roster of the first official X-Men team will be globally seen as Krakoa protectors. They are here to protect the rights of the mutant nation and fight for it. The team is stacked with powerful mutants and Polaris is definitely no exception. It also feels like she belonged here the entire time. She’s a tremendous asset to the team, and we’re lucky to have her. She packs a lot of raw power and I’m sure a lot of her battle scenes will probably end up being some of the more aesthetically pleasing ones artistically (which I can’t wait to see). Looking at the entire roster now I actually think she’ll be one of the more interesting characters and she’s probably one of the ones that most of us are excited for. The fandom made the right choice after all.

Marvel offered us an opportunity for Lorna to shine and we gladly accept. Almost immediately, she made a name for herself in Marvel. Congrats to Polaris and her apparently many fans. She’s the first-ever X-Men election winner in history. This defiantly sent a message to all the haters. And while Storm won the Top 10 Marvel’s staff, Polaris won the Top 10 Popular election. Turns out, Polaris is far more popular than they/y’all had any idea. I’m not here to throw shade but after all this time I’m content to just move forward because we now know Polaris is popular and has many fans. Perhaps they can stop messing with Lorna and us?

These are probably the same people who wanted her to stay in X-Factor. Most of you wonder what I think about Polaris leaving X-Factor. To be brutally honest, she deserves much better than X-Factor. Why? Well, this Lorna was different from the previous portrayals. I almost didn’t recognize her, she had lost so much in characterization under Leah’s pen. At first it seems Leah was going to take us on Lorna’s journey of discovery, but then somehow we stop following the green brick road almost immediately. If X-Factor #1 was supposed to be the “beginning of her discovery” then, it ended up going nowhere. Again, I’m not here to throw shade but the run that’s happening right now is really bad and she doesn’t act like herself which makes me really sad because she’s one of my favorite characters. She fleshes out the characters in her book very bad. Take Lorna, for instance.

a) The Polaris I know from 50+ years doesn’t curse all the time. She is refined, elegant and classy and comes from a respectable family.

b) She is a very intelligent, mature woman and they made her like a teenager.

c) Then she goes about brainwashing Polaris once again. I thought the book was about progression? UGH. And I previously explained on twitter it is not “brainwash” but hypnosis. X-Factor #6

d) We had an actual X-Factor member who created Boneyard and a new team only to not lead them.

e) Why would Leah kill a character that was never killed in the past 50+ years? Leah brutally killed her in her sleep. I feel like her characterization was reduced. And all you can do is sit there and ask yourself why? Those who thought Lorna was better off written by a woman… you thought wrong.

f) We didn’t discover anything. Lorne has not been explored as much as we thought she would. I was looking forward to see more of her connection with Krakoa. The only A-list character was put on hold to make others shine.

g) The investigation has been narrowing to focus more on the group and not Lorna’s discovery. Leah had a chance with Polaris and she blew it. She made a big mistake to damage any opportunities she had. And some thought Polaris was doing “amazing” in the X-Factor book? Enjoy our lost opportunity.

h) Whatever happened to the father and daughter interaction? I thought Polaris was going to visit her dad and have a cup of tea together while having serious conversation? Their interactions could have led to a number of important “discoveries”. Perhaps Magneto could’ve told her about how he met her mother. What a waste. To that end it answered almost none of them.

i) The story about Siryn/Morrigan it’s taking too long to discover certain plots that were left hanging.

j) Also, very bad art doesn’t make you a bad artist but David wasn’t really do it for me. Some expression on Lorna were just terrible (I liked Carlos Gomez better, who really grew to love Polaris). The list goes on.

So, for all of the above, some called this “amazing”?

Then you wonder why many Lorna’s fans voted her out of the X-Factor team. A lot of fans really wanted her in this new roster because they want a strong female character in the X-Men. I believe Gerry and Pepe can do interesting things with Polaris for sure. I know she is in X-Factor but I think she just needs a higher tier book. She needs to be in a book that means something else. She well deserves to be.

Now that she’s moving over to the varsity team, She will get all the recognition and attention she deserves. Polaris is a pretty badass character. She’s the winner and I must say not undeservedly so; she’s a great character with a breadth of history with complicated backstory and crises that she’s managed to overcome time after time. it will be great to watch her flourish on this new team of X-Men. She’s a super powerhouse and will pack a lot of punch to whatever the X-Men get up to. Don’t forget the time she dared bring down the Starlight Citadel on her own. And when you look at the power set of these characters, I think this is a phenomenal team and their adventures ahead of them are going to be really good as well and the story could have a possibility of being really awesome, especially for the Mistress of Magnetism.

We are heading into a new era, where everything is questionable, but Polaris being a badass is not questionable. This award was an important milestone for her as it led to her rising popularity. She gained an early lead during the competition, with Marvel confirming she was in first place. Her powers are stronger and more visually interesting than all the losers. This is her perfect victory. That’s right! She won by a ton. Meaning Polaris, Cyclops and Marvel Girl are bringing the X-Men back at last. The series will tell the adventures of the first X-Men team in the age of Krakoa, the bold new era of mutantkind that began in Hickman’s House of X and Powers of X. The crucial point to remember is that having Polaris must have meaning in relation to the content of the new X-Men team. Polaris has served as a member of many X-Men teams, struggling to make serious decisions whether X-Men, X-Factor, Starjammers, her father, leadership etc but always manages to make the right decision. Heroes always make the right decision. And Polaris joining the new X-Men to protect the mutants and Krakoa’s nation is………the right decision.

OMG……………………

I’m in the same boat. I also didn’t like the fact that Leah didn’t do anything special with Polaris. Made her powerful and that’s about it. I think Marvel canceled the book because of issue 10th. It was so terrible that Marvel says “fuck you your book getting canceled”

About the election OMFG. Polaris was the winner in this first election ever made in the Marvel history. It's important to recognize all those who support our girl success. I am glad to know you did because I did voted for her too. I thought it was time for her to move on and start fresh in a main book with the main team. I was so excited to see her getting elected by a lot of us fans.
