“your rent should be a third of your income” well wouldn’t that be nice. wouldn’t it. lower the rent pussy

Avatar

Casual observation from someone old enough to remember: in the year 2000 financial advice was that rent should be no more than 1/4 of your income.

Avatar

Until the mid 80s, the advice was that if you must rent instead of owning, then that 20% of your monthly income (oh yes, only 20%) should include all your utilities too.

After all, rent costs more than a mortgage, so it should offer more too.

The housing market is a fucking travesty.

Hmm what happened in the mid eighties....

I can't vouch for the claim myself, but-

the "It ain't much but it's honest work" farmer passed away :(

Here's an article from last year about his life and work and his reaction to being a meme:

His crops aren’t particularly unique (mostly corn, soybeans, and wheat) but his novel cover cropping tactics make his practice unconventional. In the mid-’90s, his farm started using several mixes of cover crops whose roots could break up the soil better than tilling while regenerating the chemicals, such as nitrogen, that are paramount to healthy soil. It was a breakthrough: less input was getting him more output, and his soil was as rich and wormy as ever. In his three-and-a-half decades of farming, he’s drastically decreased his use of fertilizers, fungicide, herbicide, and insecticide, and his land blooms in the offseason with all sorts of vegetation — sunflowers, radishes, various grasses, and more.
[...]
The Brandt family operates Walnut Creek Seeds to provide education and materials to other farmers (including backyard gardeners) on cover cropping, and aims to prescribe farmers the best cover crops for their land. He hopes, if anything, that his digital stardom gets more people interested in regenerative farming. “Dupont and Bayer don't care about you or your soil or our wildlife,” he says.

In 4th grade, my bff was in a death feud over chess with a boy in our class but instead of competing like normal people they decided that the best way to determine who was chess master was for each of them to select one of the two biggest idiots in class and teach them to play chess, My Fair Lady style, and see whose idiot won. We are just now, 22 years later, grappling with the moral implications of this exercise.

I forgot most Language learning apps teach spain Spanish and not normal Spanish get the fuck out of here with vosotros

If I’m talking to a Spaniard I assure you it means I’m being held hostage. If you see me use vostros in conversation instead of just normal ustedes that’s a red flag I’m in serious danger.

My cats become aggressively cuddly whenever I'm visibly stressed out about a tight deadline, and though they are not at all helping the situation, I appreciate that they're trying to help.

[ID: #my cats will actively try and hinder me from doing things when im stressed #like full on jump in front of my legs like they're trying to take a bullet meant for the president #like sweet sweet baby I appreciate your efforts #but I would be a lot less stressed if I could walk down this hallway without being pursued by the worlds loudest heat seeking missile]

downside: going to have to include a picture of the Giza pyramids in the slides for the lecture upside: i get to give people a crash course in why perspective matters in two frames, because

followed by

is such a funny sequence

i find most people who haven't seen it in person don't know that cairo is RIGHT THERE

Avatar

I loved these perspectives so I took some of my own when I was in Cairo and yeah, they're literally just. Right there. Pass em on your way to work, nbd

No, y'all don't even understand.

There is literally a Pizza Hut across the street from the pyramids.

Avatar

That Pizza Hut among other things is why Egyptologists laugh their asses off when we see another piece of media where the protagonists get "lost in the desert near the pyramids", because it's like... just turn around my dudes you're only a seven min walk away from the nearest fastfood shop

Yall don't know how much I adore all of this

I feel like I have to point out this very much means the people who commissioned those pyramids had their goals met, tho.

They wanted their accomplishments to be remembered for all time. And you can literally sit and eat your pizza and contemplate their reigns 5000 years later. That’s really something.
