There is a truth to the universe.
We all know this, we just haven't agreed on what it is. There is a fact that eludes us and underlies in everything that we know, and everything that we do. Some people see it as religion, some as science, some as all and in between.
I think that we've all seen that truth though. In those moments where you're happiest and smiling, when you're laughing with friends, or in the arms of someone you love more than life itself, I think that's when we've all felt it, the simple fact that this is our truth. The happiness we have and the happiness we give, it's warmth and it's light. It's the easiest thing we can do to keep good in the world, just to keep some light in one person's life.
When you're in the darkest place, it seems like the only truth around you is that everything else is dark. It's inescapable and all-consuming, it's all you can see and it's impossible at that moment to imagine anything else when you're there, this isn't the case, it just feels impossible to see otherwise. When you're in those places it feels like there is no balance, but we've all seen the balance throughout our entire lives, we've lived it on our own ups and downs.
No one person can make the entire world good and happy, no one person can make the entire universe be filled with that warmth and that light, but that's the beautiful thing, that light spreads on it's own. A smile to a passing stranger might be the first bit of light they've had that week, a smile that they might pass on to the next person they see.
So in those moments where you have no light, in those darkest most final times of grief, remember all of the light you've known, think of all the amazing memories you've kept inside of you, use it, and when you can, spread some more light. Keep that light as fresh as you can.
