Thinking about the time last year I was in a manic episode and bought a knitting kit off of Etsy to make a shaw. I had no clue how to knit.

Knitting is now my favorite coping tool.

Better than my last manic purchase which was a waxing kit and I tried to give myself a Brazilian because "it's easy."

It was not easy.

When studies show that underage drinking is harmful, it's banned easily. But when studies show that spanking is harmful, it remains legal and parents still insist on doing it.

Age restrictions on purchasing cigarettes pass easily. But laws prohibiting smoking where children are forced to breathe in secondhand smoke are much harder to pass.

Children under a certain age are prohibited from using most social media websites. But adults are allowed to post videos of their children's meltdowns.

Teenagers need their parents' permission to get body modifications. But parents can get their babies' ears pierced.

Anyone who genuinely wants to protect children would not panic about the children's own choices while ignoring what adults force on them. Anyone who genuinely wants to protect children would not insist that studies on the dangers of children's own choices be fully trusted and obeyed while ignoring and arguing with studies on the dangers of how adults treat children.

But many adults just want to control children, not protect them.

i'm like 90% sure the only time you're allowed to eat chips cheese and gravy is between 10pm and 1am on fridays and saturdays and it's literally illegal at all other times. like a parking permit but for food.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), dir. Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones

Ah, forever and ever one of the greatest bits ever put to film.

Needs the first part!  It was where I, as a wee lad of 16,  first heard the words “Anarchosyndicalist Commune”

Not even queueing this, making SURE it’s posted for coronation day.

Friendly reminder that:

  • Young people can have arthritis too.
  • There are hundreds of life long conditions and diseases out there that are typically diagnosed between 12 and 30.
  • There is a vast difference between being tired and having chronic fatigue.
  • Just because you can’t tell that someone is unwell from looking at them, doesn’t mean that you should assume that they are ok.
  • Many chronic illnesses are life long, and incurable. Many of them are potentially fatal.
  • If you have a disease like Lupus, on good days you still feel like you have a bad flu, 24/7.
  • Many of the medications used to treat chronic conditions have side effects that can really affect someone’s self esteem - like extreme weight gain, skin changes and hair loss.
  • Most chronic illnesses have very little awareness - its unlikely that you’ve heard of Sjogren’s Syndrome, Scleroderma, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome or Fibromyalgia.
  • However these diseases can cause symptoms as varied as joint pain, fatigue, constant nausea, kidney failure, pneumonia, photo sensitivity, full body rashes, paralysis, strokes etc.
  • So please remember that invisible illnesses exist too :)

Do not mistake composure for ease.

No one should need to have - or be on the verge of - a breakdown for you to take them and their needs seriously.

Just because you wear it well, that doesn't mean it's not heavy.

i see they're already arresting protesters in london today. Hell

they're being arrested for unloading placards from a delivery van. By the way

according to the guardian, the protesters asked why they were being arrested, and they didn't get a response. these people were detained without official reason. that is fascism and suppression.

Disney vs. DeSantis is so funny because it's like. Neither side even wanted to get into this. Here's how it's supposed to go: Politician does something stupid. Corporation disavows politician after public pressure. Politician disavows the disavowing. Nothing changes for either party.

But then the Florida governor got stars in his eyes. He saw an opportunity to bolster his standing before the presidential primary. He wanted to be the one who took on The Mouse and won. So in retaliation he decides he's going to tear down the decades-old agreement Disney uses to govern Disney World's district.

And just like that, Disney's batshit insane legal department turns towards Florida like the Eye of Sauron spotting the ring at Mount Doom. They smell lost profit. They smell blood.

Disney will use any and every strategy they've accumulated over the last century of lobbying congress and DeSantis can't back down lest he admit Mickey Mouse beat his ass. He's lost control of Disney World's district even more than he already did. Now he's getting sued.

This all started because Disney was pressured into backtracking their political contributions to Florida and disavowing the Don't Say Gay law. Now they're fighting for something they actually care about: their profit margin. Disney is not an ally to queer people and they're an enemy to progressives, but damn am I rooting for them to keep humiliating the greater evil for the time being. This is high comedy.

Never forget that the War on Drugs was fabricated to criminalize certain communities.

The quickest descent into fascism occurs when the criminalization of innocent, nonviolent activities is combined with a surveillance state to “clean up crime”.

It’s also very important to look at how these laws are used.

For the laws criminalizing pot, white people (usually youth) often get off with a slap on the wrist, but BIPOC get harsh sentences, including prison time. Same goes for traffic offences (including DUI). Also laws for loitering, gangs and so on are used much more often against BIPOC - people are being denied their freedom of movement or just being allowed to be out in public without being afraid of being arrested.

Hi everyone, what do we think the fine arts scene in Wheel of Time is like?

Specifically conventions around painting or sculpting nudes

Because I want to believe that there are so many women painters out there and also that they are painting a disproportionate number of figure studies of pretty young men. I think that would be a reasonable worldbuilding detail.

Ebou Dar would be all about life modelling. Just saying.
