Historians in their vaulted ivory towers like to gloss over minor historical trends. No one ever brings up the Tommy craze that swept southern Ireland in '79. That summer in Cork three free cinema nights were sponsoured by the historical society but there was a mix up, and the kids loved it. The second and third nights the theatres were packed, it toured everywhere that one reel, it even hit fucking Kerry. Pinball machine sales spiked (if you ever see a pinball machine in a rural pub this is why), the Church didn't even make a fuss over it except for condemning one particularly lewd machine in Limerick.
got to play pinball for the first time since I was a kid last night and oh my god I like it so much. to much. I can't go back to the hipster nerd bar with the arcade as a social activity with a friend because I shift fully into tommy mode. pinball trance. I also saw a screening ofThem! after. a truly mid-century youth evening
btw if ur worried about kids these days frying their brains on cocomelon id recommend playing even a single game of pinball. children's entertainment has I guess just always been as overstimulating as possible
more and more are saying it
