The "cut" command in the tumblr non-legacy post editor is seriously messed up.
At least on Mac + Firefox.
I just submitted a long bug report about this, but in brief, cutting text that spans multiple lines* will very often break the editor.
In either case, trying to interact with the glitchy region will crash the editor with a "your post was too wild!" / "a tumbeast ate it" message.
I've seen similar things happen with pasting text when multiple lines are selected, too.
Under certain conditions, cutting multiple lines will appear to "work," but there are still glitches under the surface. The undo command doesn't work on these cuts, for example. (Sometimes, pressing undo actually deletes text from an unrelated part of the post!)
I think this bug is behind much of my frustration with the editor, since I use cut/copy/paste a lot while writing. It is by no means my only beef with the editor, but it's probably the biggest one.
I only isolated the problem just now; earlier, I had just felt a vague sense that cut/copy/paste were broken.
* (technically multiple NPF blocks, it works fine on text within blocks that use newlines)
As someone that also does a lot of rearranging when writing, this is why I don’t compose long posts in the NPF editor anymore; it’s extremely easy to break.
The behavior is similar on Windows + Firefox, although I’ve only encountered it while deleting and cutting text, not while pasting. Exception: The extra, difficult to delete line sometimes shows up when pasting text in front of an image block. Still not sure why this happens when it does.
The broken blocks also don’t cause the post to crash for me, but they do delete their sibling text blocks and themselves from the post when saved.
Currently, my workaround for deleting multiple text blocks without causing the left-flushed text bug is to leave at least one character standing in the first of the blocks I want to delete. Once the other blocks are gone, the remaining one can be deleted without breaking the post.
On my end, undo has never worked on block removal in the NPF editor and I think that just extends to deleting entire lines, since they each are a text block. I understand it, but it’s really not intuitive.

"this how we lost post editing and it was still worth it"
❌ False
The John Green Cock Monologue, while one of the most egregious examples of post editing, was not why the ability to edit posts was taken away. This feature was removed because scammers would edit posts with huge note counts to try to make their scams look legit.

I own volumes 1 to 9 and 11 of the old edition; hopefully the new edition will be super popular and get a giant run. And go up to vol. 15 again!! 🙏🏽
