friendly reminder to everyone aiming to be trans allies, i know it’s hard to unlearn ingrained biases and start learning trans terms and our struggles to properly support us.
however, this is not about you, it will be hard but it will also be something you are not owed thanks to, something you shouldn’t complain about, and above all, not a saint for doing.
if your trans friend calls you out on something transphobic you did or said, you need to full stop and properly understand even if you feel attacked, you are not the victim here. you are the oppressor, you have and are, present day, adding to a culture of oppression.
unless your friend explicitly offers to help you become a good or better ally, do not expect your friend to educate you. read a book or some shit, but don’t expect us to carry you through lessons of how to properly respect us as human beings.
and if your trans friend decides to end the friendship because you aren’t a good ally, they are completely valid in that decision. because, you as a cis person wouldn’t want to be friends with someone if they constantly told you, “i don’t think you or people like you deserve to exist and feel safe, and happy.” which is what we hear in subtext with every transphobic thing you say or do.
so, in conclusion, you aren’t the victim.

I live in Yakutia, Russia, where most of the fires are taking place and I'm trying to raise awareness about the situation worldwide so we can get some external help.
Neither our federal nor local government is doing anything to put these fires out. They lie and say the situation is under control, when it certainly isn't.
Take a look at the current AQI of the city! We have been the most air polluted place in the WORLD for a few days now and the AQI used to be closer to 1300. It's still extremely dangerous to even open the windows or go outside.
This is a map of all the fire hotspots. Our nature, our life is burning alive.
Yakutia is the homeland of many Indigenous peoples and we are all suffering right now. The Russian government doesn't care about us, they only care about the money they can earn from mining our diamonds and precious metals but can't take care of our generous land. The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has always prided itself on its nature and wildlife, since we were kids we've all been taught to preserve it and take care of it. Who are we without it?

One absolutely hilarious part of human existence is the repeated incidents of spicy bananas. People who have lived their entire lives up to this point just assuming that a specific fruit or vegetable is supposed to taste bitter, tangy, or spicy, having no fucking idea that all this time, they’ve been allergic to this plant. Because how would they have known? You learn what things taste like by tasting them, nobody’s going to tell you that bananas are supposed to be one of the mildest flavours out there. And people already eat so many things that taste hot, bitter, tangy and tart! Because they like how that kind of thing tastes like!
You can just happily much on a plant, thinking “ah, this angry plant tastes sharp because it hates me. Much like all the other sharp angry plants that people eat because they like the sharp”, and it wouldn’t cross their mind to think that the plant just hates you, specifically.
