Chishiya was briefly startled, though his face remained a sense of calm. He peered down only slightly, to note the blonde woman that had made her way here. Hikari could only watch, a quiet snort in amusement. How odd. Taking in Arisu’s words, Chishiya seemed thoughtful for a moment’s notice. He had reserved respect for the young man, truth be told. He found himself certainly helping him out in the near future, but as of now- here in this resort- he would not be so open with this. His eyes calmly scanned his surroundings before he would speak; he wanted to make sure Niragi, amongst others would not have a reason to suggest treason with the man that made himself known as the Hatter.  Chishiya only turned his body ever slightly, away from the group at an off angle, and peered at the bonfire further ahead from his line of sight.  She wouldn’t be the only one feeling that way. Look around you - deep down, all of these people fear every second of their lives. This is their only salvation right now; this is the only time they let themselves go, until another game is announced. Then, their fear shows.  he mused bluntly.  What he observed wasn’t far from the truth. However as long as everyone remained in this world, this is the constant state everyone would live in; Chishiya had no sense of fear seep through the expressions of his face, only that he knew deep down he too felt the same way. He, however, would always have the advantage. He had been here far too long now.  He looked over to the woman, taking in her appearance. He wondered therein if it was the entire world that had fallen to this bizarre curse; a question that had no answer.  ❝ Chishiya. ❞ he introduced himself quietly. Hikari had introduced herself eagerly in comparison.

The eager voice of the tall woman was almost unnoticed by Eve but Chishiya’s was different. It was intriguing and calm, something she certainly needed after all the madness. Like following a breeze from the ocean, her head moved slightly up to look into his eyes and for the first time in hours, her lungs expanded with a deep breath.

“Eve”, a sweet but weak voice came out as an introduction. “What is this place? Do you know what happened to the people who disappeared?”

“Well, well, well...”, Niragi’s unmistakable voice came closer and closer to where they were. “What do we have here?”. At his proximity, Eve went back to looking to the ground already sensing the red flags he emanated before she actually was able to look at his face. “Chishiya, you’re not going to introduce me to your new friend?”. Niragi came into Eve’s personal space on purpose, towering over her and then leanin down to lay his head on her shoulder as she shrugged as a reflex. “Hello”, he said into her ear in a low taunting voice, adoring her fear. “What’s your name huh?”, he waited for a reply but nothing came out. “Cat got your tongue?”. And as he sticked his tongue out, Eve leaned away from him, finally revealing her face to the man. There was a moment of silence when both of them looked into each other’s eyes. “Eve?”, he asked, recognizing the woman from the library he used to frequent.

“N-niragi?”, the blonde stuttered, realizing the tall man didn’t ressemble that shy boy he was a year ago in the slightest.

It was as if he was hesitant on how to proceed and instead of going ahead with what he had in mind, he turned to Chishiya before clearing his throat. “I’m checking the new ones. Be sure to show the girl around, get her a comfortable place to sleep. A comfortable one”, he remarked.

The sun set, and out came the moon. Everyone came out from the resort hotel and spent the night partying. Loud music roared through the speakers, people were jumping into hot tubs and swimming pools. Some came to dance, some came to make out. This was a typical routine for players, a good number of them would often leave to compete in order to replenish their lifespan. By the time they came back, it was often celebrated in big gatherings. Takeru often planned the night to be like this- a continuous cycle of nonstop partying and drinking with no more responsibilities, no more laws tying people down. For Chishiya, however, he spent the night sitting away from most of the crowd. He was certainly no party goer nor a drinker in the least. In fact, such lifestyles he deemed rather silly and redundant. This did, however, provide him an opportunity to merely observe without creating a scene. After all, this is how he got around and got by most of the time. There was little to no room for being open, and it was every man and woman for themselves. In better terms, survival of the fittest. Hikari was by his side, following his gaze as he inquired and spoke about certain individuals he recognized. The most recent addition was a young man named Arisu, and some friends he had brought along with him. Chishiya recognized him from an earlier game he was in. He was certainly different, and could be useful to Chishiya’s gain.

Eve was still in a state of shock. She had been enjoying dinner in the city with the good company of her parents, celebrating a whole year spent in the country due to her father's job when she excused herself to go to the bathroom. The lights went off all of a sudden and something in the air had changed as well. She still remembered, there was this subtle scent of smoke, most likely a burning smell.

The night fell over Tokyo and the surrounding areas and everything went dark and for a little while nothing at all could be heard. Then screens began to light up all around as well as some spotlights, all highlighting the arenas for the next games. Niragi had left the Beach together with Aguni and Last Boss to find themselves at the gate of a small amusement park close to the ocean. For a few moments the three men stood next to each other before stepping through the gates without saying a word. They didn't even blink an eye as the red lazer beams signaled they wouldn't be able to get out before the game had ended.

Once inside they walked into the middle of the park where a giant screen was waiting for them, which only showed how many player spots were left so far. "10 out of 24 spots left. This should be interesting." Niragi commented followed by a snort before looking around at some of the players that were lurking in the shadows around them. His trusted rifle was leaning against his right shoulder as it often did, please there had been no sign at the entrance that weapons needed to be left outside. For him games were way more fun if he could just shot, it made things easier.

As some of the other players dared to make eye contact with the militant he narrowed his eyes and just smirked at them before briefly pointing his rifle into their direction. The dark figure took a few steps back, making him snort again before he brought his attention back to the screen. And just a moment later a female voice could be heard from the boxes all around the amusement park. "Attention players only 15 minutes left until the game will start. 8 more players can join the game."

The ‘game’, as Eve came to realize, had nothing to do with an actual game for fun and more with a living nightmare for survival. The screams from people could be heard nearby mixed with the roars of the beasts. She didn’t need to see properly to understand wild fauna was spread everywhere like killing machines. Each shot from the man who was on the ship with her made her jump and squeal even louder. He was laughing. Maniacally almost. Something she couldn’t understand when her body was shockled by horror and fear.

When the letter of the arena was on, Eve was still trying to process what had just happened a few hours ago. She was enjoying her vacation in Japan around the city of Tokyo with her mother, sealing a beautiful afternoon with a walk in the shopping mall. They were close to meet with the father but Eve wanted to try a new dress on before they left. And all of a sudden, once inside the changing room, the explosions. All eight of the warm lights around the mirror she was checking herself in went off, leaving her in plain darkness.

Eve looked up at the sky. It was starting to get dark and the spring sleeve-less dress she was wearing wasn’t enough to protect her against the temperature going lower. Even like that, the streets felt better than going back home to her abusive boyfriend. He had already made her lose her job at the local library, disturbing readers when coming in to look for her and making a scene in front of everyone. Now that she had finally managed to get a new job at the flower shop, she wasn’t going to let it go to waste for him, especially not in her first day. Luckily, they told her it consisted on going around the neighborhood and delivering flower presents people had bought so there was no chance her boyfriend could repeat the same behavior.

Goddamn  this  h e a t.  The  older  man  thought  as  he  rounded  the  corner  on  the  street  where  the  old  magic  shop  had  been.  The  owner  there  still  had  some  merchandise  that  Al  would  purchase  from  time  to  time;  other  than  that  it  had  been  boarded  up,  only  available  to  those  who  knew  where  to  look.  That  was  a  talent  of  the  part  time  magician,  he  tended  to  be  aware  of  things  such  as  that,  always  knowing  how  to  find  what  was  seemingly  unfindable.  He  also  was  all  too  good  at  keeping  his  mouth  shut  –  never  daring  to  give  away  a  best  kept  secret  to  another.  Not  that  he  spoke  with  many  people  these  days  –  no  –  he  did  his  best  to  go  to  work  and  return  home  –  at  least  that’s  what  he’d  tell  anyone  if  they  had  ever  asked.

He  heard  the  clatter  before  he  saw  the  scene,  his  icy  stare  catching  up  to  his  quick  moving  legs.  There  in  the  alleyway  lay  a  young  woman,  bike  fallen  to  the  pavement  and  a  large  dog  growling  in  her  path.  The  hem  of  her  dainty  dress  rode  up  slightly,  revealing  sunkissed  thighs  and  a  tiny  peak  of  cotton  panties.  He  lingered  there  for  a  moment,  before  casting  his  gaze  upward  to  her  frightened  face.  She  hadn’t  noticed  him  yet,  she  was  all  too  preoccupied  with  the  snarling  Cujo.

‘  Hey  there!  ’  he  announced  loudly,  catching  the  attention  of  the  girl  and  the  dog.  ‘  Can  I  help  you  out?  ’  he  questioned,  not  bothering  to  stop  his  assent  towards  the  brunette,  his  eyes  traveling  to  look  directly  into  the  eyes  of  the  dog,  watching  as  it  shrank  further  and  further  away.

‘  I  assume  he’s  not  yours,  ’  Al  noted  with  a  small  chuckle,  stepping  in  between  the  fallen  damsel  and  the  canine.  ‘  I  have  a  huge  one  myself  at  home  –  Cane  Corso  –  even  bigger  than  this  little  guy.  ’  He  reached  his  hand  out  to  assist,  waiting  for  her  to  take  the  offer.

Eve took the offered hand as fast as she could, using it for support to get back on her feet. She looked past the gentleman to see if the dog was still there then stumbled over her own words: "Thank you, thank you so much".

Tracking him down wasn’t as hard as he expected. All those bugs, the particular attire, the destroyed bodies transformed in whatever shape of insect monstruosity he could think of… Arkin was sure: The Collector had to be related to that field. An entomologist, as he came to the conclussion doing the proper research. One pretty fucked up by a twisted family history that only reassured him he was the man behind the mask.

Breaking into his house wasn’t hard either. He was used to it. Years of experience had granted him the ability to move as a mouse, almost invisible, entering and exiting whenever he desired.

When he locked him inside the red box, a whole wave of pride filled the enormous desire for revenge. The Collector was in his hands just like he was once in his

He threw the box into the van and drived all the way to the outside of the city, near the abandoned area of the hotel. He had an abandoned factory in mind and had taken the precautions he needed and all the instruments he was going to need to torture Asa Emory. Including the hammer similar to the one he once used to break his teeth.

What he wasn’t expecting, though, was the girl following them.

Eve was fast to obey and spit the water on one of the cuffs of the chains. She watched as Asa struggled, hoping it would actually work. ‘I admire you as well’ Was he serious? Despite Arkin’s warnings, she was so close to him that she was sure Asa could breathe into the crimson painting her cheeks. She was determined not lo lose that admiration, whatever sort it was, and, unfortunatley, that only encouraged her to go further against Arkin despite, in this case, The Collector’s warnings.

The girl obeyed without a second thought and Asa smiled in appreciation, his eyes landing on the crimson in her cheeks. He leaned forward as much as he could, his lips brushing against her skin. He would need to keep her enamored if he wanted to keep her on his side. He’d been careful to keep his actions as the Collector hidden, but Arkin would have thought about how to change Eve’s mind about him and Asa wouldn’t let that happen. “Thank you,” He breathed, his voice low, putting as much sincerity into the two words as he was capable of.

He ceased his struggle as soon as Arkin walked in the room, not wanting the deranged man to notice the water dripping from his bonds. Eve backed into him and Asa smirked over her shoulder, knowing she wouldn’t be able to see him. He was loving this. Arkin’s frustration was heavenly.

He listened to the two of them argue back and forth, his lips pulling back over his teeth as he growled lowly, a primal warning to Arkin. “Leave her alone. If she wants to stay here, let her stay here.” He didn’t trust Arkin not to snap on the girl, anyways. People didn’t make the best decisions when they were desperate and Arkin was way past desperation.

“I’m not crazy like you are, Arkin,” He snapped back, straining against his chains. “She probably feels safer with me than she does you.” The gun put him on edge, he couldn’t deny. He didn’t think for one second that Arkin wasn’t capable of using it. If it wasn’t for eve, he probably already would have had a bullet in his head. He had to get them out of here and soon.

Asa smirked when Eve pleaded for his life but what he wasn’t expecting was for Arkin to hit him with his gun. His vision blurred and he felt his body slump as the world went dark.

Eve snuggled closer to Asa, gently bringing a hand to his scalp to scratch it with affection for him to wake up. She could feel the hematoma produced by the gun so she was more than careful to avoid causing him any pain.

The blonde butterfly wasn’t exactly sure how much time went by. Possibly an hour or two, but it was hard to tell when there wasn’t even a window to check for moonlight. She could swear she heard a groan coming from Asa’s throat and the muscles of his fingers twitch. That gave her hope. She had to remain hopeful. She had to focus on him being knocked out and not exactly dead. And she had to realize that she had been lucky to still remain alive. Eve was convinced that this Arkin man could be the Collector, the reckless and terror-inspiring murderer, and that he was possibly not sane enough considering how he accused her neighbor of being the actual villain.

“We’re freezing”, she whispered to Asa, unsure if he was able to hear her.

Asa’s head hurt. That’s the first thing that registered in his brain as he slowly regained consciousness, letting out a soft groan as he lifted his head up to take in his surroundings. The second thought he had was that Arkin must have convinced Eve of his innocence because he could see through the open door that the blonde girl had her arms wrapped around his waist. Asa’s eyes narrowed in disgust as he let out a soft growl at the perceived betrayal. It was cut abruptly off when he realized that the girl was pleading for him.

He tilted his head, ignoring the way his vision blurred in protest. People begged Asa for the lives of others, or for their own life to continue, but never once had anyone ever begged for his life. He felt himself soften just a bit as he watched the interaction, studying both Eve and Arkin. He couldn’t stop the feral grin that overtook his features when he noticed she’d actually taken advantage of the hug to steal his keys. A soft laugh left his lips. He stiffened in preparation as the girl ran back through the open door, slamming it closed and pressing her back against it. There was no way she’d be able to keep Arkin out for long and no way that he was wasting what might be his last chance to get away from his annoying failed pet so he was ready the second the keys were thrown his way.

Asa kept his eyes on the door as he quickly unlocked his shackles, his teeth bared like an animal caught in a trap. The second he felt the bonds fall away from his feet, Arkin burst through the door, pointing his gun towards The Collector. Asa was too focused on jumping out of the way to notice his neighbor putting herself in front of him. He hit the ground hard, letting out a soft grunt as he turned himself onto his back and pushed himself to his feet, his eyes falling on Eve’s bleeding form on the ground. He growled, shaking his head at Arkin. “An innocent, Arkin? Didn’t know you had it in you. Perhaps there’s hope for you yet,” He chuckled softly. “Too bad you targeted someone I want this time.”

He rushed forward, grabbing the arm that held the gun and twisting it. He wasn’t letting Arkin get away again this time. He should have never allowed it to get that far last time. It ended now.

Asa was saying something to Arkin but Eve couldn’t really understand. The enormous amount of pain she was in turned the whole room into a shadow, something she wasn’t aware of anymore. She tried to scream but the blood dripping from the shoulder joint down her arm had overpowered her vocal cords. Her body had collapsed against the floor, back hitting hard onto the surface adding to the purple bruises she already carried between her scapulas from holding that door close.

She didn’t know if the vision was real but it seemed as if Asa had attacked the other man, knocking him down. What was happening? Her dizzy eyes tried to locate her neighbor’s face.

“A- A... Asa”, she babbled. That name took the last remains of her strength.

Following, she fainted, leaving her tiny self exposed to the Collector’s will.
