Blindness is a symptom, not a condition.
So I have a rant.
I’ve noticed, with a lot of blind fictional characters, the writers just say they were ‘blind from birth’ which is such a copout. It’s like saying that your nose is running. No reason given- could be allergies, could be a cold, could be that you ate something super spicy.
Eye conditions that cause blindness and visual impairment (only something like 8 percent of legally blind people are completely blind) are varied and they have different effects and other symptoms. Not everyone who is blind ‘looks blind’ or has the clouded cornea that traditionally signals that a character is blind. The problem can be in the front of the eye, but it can also be in the optic nerves or the brain.
Your character could have Albinism, Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Retinopathy of Prematurity , Cataracts, Corneal Disease, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular degeneration, a detached retina, I’m sure I’m missing some. Each of these things affects the eye differently, and come with other symptoms.
Blind representation is so important, but so is doing some research as to why. This isn’t just a problem with OCs or fanfiction, this is a problem I see with canon blind characters and it’s so frustrating.
I got my final diagnosis from that specialist today: (dry) Macular Degeneration. In both eyes.
I don’t feel like explaining it. I’m too worn out by the news, the prognosis and the 12hours I spent at the clinic.

I don’t think there’s a worst placement with Saturn, they’re all difficult. The hardest one will depend on whose opinion it is. Saturn placements are your insecurities at first but as you mature, you work on those things and they become strengths.
Saturn in the 1st: insecurities with appearance, will want to make themselves physically smaller and slouch. It’s possible they were bullied for a specific trait or simply because people were jealous of them, of their pride. So they become uncomfortable with themselves but as they mature and get wiser. They become very accepting of themselves and realize that what they perceived as bad could actually be a strength. Slowly they become very confident with their abilities, opinions and appearance.
Saturn in the 2nd: insecure about money. It’s very common for them to have grown up with financial troubles or it’s possible their father wasn’t around. They can be very possessive over the possessions they own because they’re scared that it can all be taken away. It’s what makes them feel safe but those behaviors can make them be overly cautious. It’s when they let go of that fear that they can truly start to enjoy what they have and to make more valuable investments even if they might have to spend more in the beginning.
Saturn in the 3rd: insecure about communication. They could’ve been made fun of when they spoke or simply no one would listen. So they stopped talking about the things that they wanted to talk about and changed the way they spoke to suit others better. As they become more confident in themselves, they’ll realize that they have an eloquent way of speaking and it isn’t something to hide. They have to find the right people to be comfortable being themselves.
Saturn in the 4th: generally insecure. It’s common for people with this placement to have grown up in a strict, cold home with parents or guardians not caring about their emotional state as much as they should have. They can have a lot of pressure to succeed, those pressures could’ve came from a parent or even themselves. They want to be the best but it seems as though, no matter how hard they try. There is always something and someone better. As they mature, they will gain more confidence in what they do. They’ll realize that ultimately, you are your worst enemy. They will still push themselves because it’s their nature but they’ll do it for a good reason. They’ll do it to better themselves for themselves and actually will do things that make them happy instead of what the world says they should do.
Saturn in the 11th: insecure in friendships. For one reason or another, it might seem as though friendships aren’t for them. They might not fit in and they could be ostrich-sized for it or the opposite could happen. They can have something, money, abilities, something that people wanted that makes them hard to trust people. It’s can be in the back of their minds, why is this person friends with me? What are their true intentions? They will put people around them through a lot of tests and it will take a long time for them to fully or at least mostly trust someone. Even after those extensive tests, they have to be mature to take a chance and trust someone but once they do. It’s a solid friendship or partnership. They’d much rather have a few very loyal and good people than a hundred acquaintances.
Saturn in the 12th: insecure about themselves. When they were young, they could have been restricted in some way. Those restrictions in childhood coupled with possible karmic debt can lead to a lot of self doubt. They can take life and situations too seriously, more serious than what they are meant to be and that’ll lead to them to have a lot of unnecessary worry. With time, they will accept themselves and everything else for what they are and enjoy life.
