The second one is VERY important; *** being ostracized is more mentally damaging than being bullied. ***

Don’t know how many ways I can say this; being told “go away”, ignored completely when you speak, being chosen last for teams all say “you are worthless to us”

Kids think they are being nicer by not picking on someone that annoys them, and they are right. However, at least when a child is being picked on, however horribly, it means their existence has been noticed and has caused a reaction.

The cool kids hate it when the teachers pick the teams or assign students to work together in group. The ostracized kids are always relieved (of course by this point many would rather work alone after years of being rebuffed).

We need to teach our children not only to not bully and belittle, but to also be inclusive; to respond in some sort of non-negative way to kids they would rather ignore. It’s not easy, but being told by a peer that they are worthy of positive notice could improve - and maybe even save - a life.

Let me explain why this is really important:  Because it takes a lesson every other show teaches you and corrects it.

Most shows will say “Be yourself!  Then girls will love you for you and you will have so many girlfriends!  So many!”

It’s another disappointing message to young boys that teaches them they are entitled to women.  That “hey just be you and you get girls, neat!”

Tino’s mom takes the time to say “No, be yourself because yourself is who you should be.  It won’t necessarily get you girls, some of them still won’t be interested but the most important thing is you like yourself.”

That’s a great message and if he follows through with it, it is likely to make him far more interesting as a romantic partner.

I don’t even know what this is from, but this is something I’ve never actually seen articulated before, and it’s SO IMPORTANT.

It’s from the Weekenders and it’s amazing

I love Tinos mom so much, really while she is such a great portray of a single mother. Most cartoons mostly functioning families with two parents, there are only a few that show the struggle of being a single parent or dealing with not having both parents around. This show did such a great job, it showed children that a divorce isn’t the end of the world. And it isn’t only for this family in this show, there are four kinds of completely different families in the show and they are all portrayed in great and realistic ways.

The Weekender’s was one of the best cartoons.  It had a seriously top notch writing staff and some of the better voice actor’s in the industry.  The jokes weren’t dumbed down for its audience, the principal cast all had distinct personalities without becoming cheap caricatures of stereotypes, and the animation quality was consistent and fluid.  Hell, the characters even get to change their damn clothes as the days pass.  It’s really no wonder that the show was strong enough to beat Pokemon in ratings (being one of the first shows PERIOD to do so since Pokemon came to the US).

A sword wields no strength unless the hand that holds it has courage. You may be destined to become the hero of legend…but your current power would disgrace the proud green of the hero’s tunic you wear. You must use your courage to seek power…and find it you must. Only then will you become the hero for whom this world despairs.

tfw when the piece you’re listening to had a quiet beginning so you whacked up the volume, and suddenly the fff tutti comes and you have to decide between turning it down and becoming a weak failure who is defeated by dynamic contrast, and preserving your pride at the cost of your hearing

Powerful & creative imagery

the food and education made me sad.

I have always been fascinated by these ‘world of 100 people’ things, I remember spending hours thinking through the ones on a poster at church when I was 9 or so. It really, really makes some really important stuff so blindingly clear, in numbers we can understand. And it should, I hope it does, inspire us to act.

Amazing post.

The reason these work so well is because the human brain is actually incapable of comprehending the actual amount in people in the world. Our mind unassisted can only understand numbers up to a certain amount. Even 83% of 7 billion is difficult to grasp because we know that’s a Fuck ton, but on the flip side 17% of 7 billion is a Shit load. So our brain realy can’t comprehend the gravity of what exactly is the difference one fuck ton and one shit load. But when you take away the percent, remove this gigantic 7 billion number, and bring it down to 100, all of a sudden out brains go “oh! I know what 100 is! I can understand this!” And things are a lot clearer.

The one thing that I absolutely adore about the Weekenders is Tino’s mom. She was such a great role model for Tino and she tried to be the best mom she could be under the cirumstances. But this photoset really gets me is how understanding Tino’s mom is about what Tino is going through, and that what he’s going through is perfectly normal and what he’s feeling is normal.

What Tino’s mom does in the beginning is that she makes the winter solstice seem so incredibly important (it kinda is) because it helps bring something nice and warm and feely into the mix to replace a holiday that Tino is just going to feel sad about if he thinks about his dad not being there. She doesn’t try to replace his dad or anything, but she gives Tino an alternative to get away from the sad during the holiday season. She gently brings it up that Tino can remove his dad’s sock as to not feel sad when he looks at it. Not saying that his dad isn’t here let’s just get rid of the sock but let’s remove it so we don’t feel sad. And that is important.

Parents try to place the blame on one or the other during a divorce and make it seem like the other is the bad guy. Tino’s mom obviously got custody but she doesn’t make it seem like Tino’s dad is some evil villain. She brings it up that it’s okay to feel sad that Tino’s dad isn’t there. Not that he did something wrong or that she immediately puts it in there that Tino’s dad did something wrong, but that this is a time of the year to be happy with family around you and that its. okay. to. be. feeling. sad.

And then this flawless woman says that if Tino’s mad. at. her. it’s. okay. That he can come talk to her and say that he doesn’t like her at the time because this happened. That she says that yes, a part of this divorce includes me, and not just the bad end with your father. Tino might have felt angry with her because she got him and his dad didn’t. That happens. And Tino’s mom said that it was okay to be mad with him! This was so important to me when I found out about this because it meant that people were allowed to feel mad about things, even if those people who they were getting mad at didn’t always have a choice, or coudn’t make another choice.

And the last thing she does is that she acknowledges that her bad joke about Tino’s dad, and she doesn’t dwell on it. She says sorry and then works hard to make it better for Tino during this hard time. Because yeah, he’s a kid, he wants his family with him for the holidays but he can’t. So making Tino happy and have him grow up healthy and not resentful to either parent was something Tino’s mom did flawlessly. She had her own grudges with his dad, but didn’t want that to get in the way with Tino’s relationship with his dad. She wanted him to be happy, and keeping his dad in his life made him happy so goddamn she’s gonna grin and bear it for Tino.

Ms Tonitini was written as a golden model woman who deserves thousands of awards because she was understanding, kind, and she helped Tino the best she could. Best Mom Ever.

honestly if ur an introvert ur probably better off befriending some extroverts bc having a whole squad of introverts is fine at first but eventually you end up never doing anything with them ever especially after you finish school bc ur all fine being loners and low maintenance friends that just tag each other in memes and snapchat each other which is nice but sometimes i wanna leave my house instead of binge watching spongebob squarepants you need balance in ur squad you need to have people who are gonna motivate the squad to be social
