As a thank you for telling her about Mandarake on her recent trip to Japan, my friend Xenia brought me back a couple of things from the Gashapon Machines.
First is this Papillon-Ohger keychain. She had no idea Rita was my favorite and just got lucky!
The other is this Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger Dino Buckler pin that comes in a replica of the origin box for the full sized toy version!
Complete with a miniature reprint of the original book instructions on the back!

THIS SHOW IS AMAZING!
It is only the second series I can think of NOT set on Earth (the other being Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger) so they can go wild with the World-Building.
Yeah, it's kinda-sorta based on Earth in a vague sense geographically and the name sounds a like like the Japanese word for Earth but this is clearly another planet. And hey, if Star Trek can have a planet that's just a copy of Earth (from the episode Miri), then Super Sentai can have this place.
I love the Five Kingdoms and there super specialized development. I love their Rulers and their weird quirks. I love the bug-themed mecha and the political machinations of the Kingdoms.
And I adore the Royal Rainment Suits!
But above all else, OMG do I love Rita/Papillon-Ohger!

This series is giving us so much good stuff and I am only up to episode 7. I know some spoilers from later but please, don't give me more. This is the kind of inventive series that plays with the tropes of Sentai, mixes them up and gives us something fresh and fun without deconstructing the genre. It's just good, wonderful fun and I need that right now!

Ok, I love that they released officially licensed, connecting rings for Lupin Yellow and Patren 3gou.
I would say these two were the best couple from Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger but Red and 1gou exist so I will just say they are the cutest couple.

I was chatting with a friend here on tumblr yesterday and she messaged me that she was watching a video on Youtube about the popularity of various Sentai series with different demographics in Japan. Apparently the three most popular series with women are: Samurai Sentai Shinkenger Ressha Sentai ToQger Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger She then finished with: I SHOULDA KNOWN YOU WERE A WOMAN I am weirdly euphoric about having three of my favorite shows putting me firmly in the right demographic.
