Periodically I post about this recipe —Instant Pot Spaghetti from Kitchn — because I first made it last winter and it's, no exaggeration, one of the best things to happen to dinnertime ever. It's ready in a half hour flat, but tastes like it simmered all day. I've doctored it a bit, with more noodles/liquid, plus 1/2 tsp dried oregano, a big can of drained mushrooms, half a minced onion, 2 Tbsp tomato paste, and a couple of anchovies thrown in with the initial sauté for more depth. In brief, this is the warm hug of a meal that I want whenever I have the scaries on a Sunday (or holiday Monday) night.
I'm lucky that Neusch is pretty unbothered by fireworks but poor Holly, the hound next door, is an unhappy girl. ☹️
Does hugging your cat count?
Eh. I let very few people hug me so that many hugs sounds terrible.
Whoa. I think a lot of Gen X is perfectly fine with you not having kids. Most of my cohort I know is cool with it.
Gen X is OK with your reproductive choices.
Fellow Gen Xer agreeing.
“Mekka Lekka Hi Mekka Hiney Ho! The wish is granted. Long live Jambi.“.
Are you fucking kidding me @staff get these disgraceful predatory ads off of my dash! The site claims to be giving partial proceeds to the Orange Shirt Society, BUT THIS IS A LIE. I emailed the Orange Shirt Society and within an hour got a reply that they haven't been in contact with the clothing company Alsiee and these designs are FUCKING STOLEN FROM THEM!
Not only are they exploiting a dark time for all NA Indig people, they're lying about giving a portion of the sales to the charity they stole the designs from! AND TUMBLR IS GIVING THEM A PLATFORM! It took me one goddamn email and less than an hour to verify that these are RACIST FUCKING ADS.
I can't even fucking report this ad to tumblr @neechees @allthecanadianpolitics @indigenousfantasy @doesthendnlive please tag more people, god I'm fucking livid.
OK, look it’s just-
The reference is going over SO MANY people’s heads on twitter and he doesn’t have to explain himself but it’s SENDING ME SO LIKE.
Just in case you missed it, Bezo’s rich ass is going to be flying to space, on a rocket ship from his own company. That’s fine. That’s totally ok and normal.
Jamaal Bowman, who is a congressman from/for the Bronx (so you know I like him more) is directly referencing a song by Gil Scott-Heron called “Whitey’s on the Moon.” Scott-Heron debuted the song in 1970 on his spoken word album Small Talk at 125th and Lennox. It was directly inspired by activist Eldridge Cleaver, who argued that the space program/space race was a way to ignore the internal issues going on in America at the time.
I’ll put the video to the song below the cut, but Bowman has taken the lyrics from the actual song that read as the following, and plugged in Bezo’s name. Still works.
I can’t pay no doctor bill. (but Whitey’s on the moon) Ten years from now I’ll be payin’ still. (while Whitey’s on the moon)
Such a good tweet. Also I vote for “Bezos” as the new “Whitey.”
Music For Focus
I need background music to really focus when I’m developing content or staging materials or philosophizing about the meaning of learning itself and so I rely on instrumental playlists and chill techno soundtracks for background soundscapes. Lyrics make my brain get distracted so I need some chill beats to toe-tap while I go into deep focus mode, which if carefully constructed and tended to, can last for hours on end. Flow theory is me.
Anyway. Last year or the year before during a black Friday sale, I bought a lifetime subscription to the Calm.com app, because it is absolutely my jam and I am obsessed with Tamara Levitt’s voice in, I guess, an ASMR way.
They have a music channel, and it’s got some great stuff. I particularly like the new ATTLAS jawns.
And here’s my favorite Spotify focus playlist: Soundscapes for Gaming.
Reblogging for future reference.
