“make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.”

i’m trying to forget you as i wait for you to come back.
“You arrived an explosion and left a coward. Why did you have to do that? Why did you turn a good thing into ash? Why did you turn a firework into dust?”
— Sue Zhao // Perhaps all fireworks are destined to turn to dust
“Sometimes when you were hurting, all you wanted was for someone to come and hold you until you stopped shaking. And all too often, no one would come. And so, you learned to hold yourself. And so, you learned to find sanctuary within your own mind. And so, like this, you learned to survive.”

“I knew it hurt him and he knew it hurt me and neither of us could do a thing about it. We sat on the floor trying to fix each other, all the while knowing there was no way we could. We lay with our legs entwined until finally he said, “I love you, right? God knows I fucking love you. But this isn’t working, is it? We’re breaking each other’s heart and it feels like we’re running on borrowed time.“ And I said nothing because he was right and I hated it. I lay there silently, hating the way everything contradicted itself. I lay there and hated it all.”

May the next few months be a period of beautiful transformation
“If I could have done it all again, I would have loved you better. But I could not have loved you more.”
— Sue Zhao // “I loved you in all the ways that I could”
“A relationship should not be measured in months or years. It’s the calibre of the memories that matter. Their impact, their permanence, and the degree to which they change you. I’ve had relationships lasting years I can now scarcely recollect, and hours with others that feel like infinities.”

“What’s it like to be lonely And it’s almost like suffocating, except the air has turned to fire and the burning feeling of emptiness billows your lungs like smoke filling an empty room. Everything is overwhelming and you can’t not breathe, but you can’t breathe when you breathe - if that even makes any sense. It’s being surrounded by people who promise you that you’re filled with so much love and so much life ( so much that you could light up a room), but still always having cracks in your chest. Cracks that have run themselves so deep that they’re practically breaking through your spine. And you constantly remind yourself that one day everything will feel so good that you’ll forget the bad days ever existed; that you’ll forget about the fire that once coated your lungs with soot and so much light will pour into the cracks until your heart beats strong and your spine stands firm. That one day nothing will remain of these promise except complete fulfillment. But, until that day - you can’t turn the air back to air, you can’t see the light, and you certainly can’t fill the cracks. That’s what it’s like to be lonely.”

“Hope is a good breakfast, but it is a bad supper.”

You go through spells where you feel that maybe you’re too sensitive for this world. I certainly felt that.
“Time was passing like a hand waving from a train I wanted to be on. I hope you never have to think about anything as much as I think about you.”
