I am the bat. I recreated my favorite (and coziest) Halloween costume of all time this year. You can’t really tell from the photo but my mom made bat wings in the armpits of that sweater and flapping my arms around the playground was the coolest I’ve ever felt! It was kind of hot to wear through storytime though.

A few weeks ago I recorded a song for my wife for her birthday. The lyrics were inspired by a children’s book I had just found called “I Like You” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg & Jacqueline Chwast (that’s their art in the video). I’ve known my wife since I was fifteen so I liked the idea of writing a song that was as equally applicable to two teenage friends as it was to two married olds like us. So I recorded it and surprised her with it on her birthday. This ended up being a pretty big misstep on my part. What I thought was a pretty dumb and embarrassing song ended up sending my wife into a heavy crying fit that I spent the rest of the night trying to undo by saying things like “It’s just a dumb song! It’s stupid! You should be making fun of me for writing such a piece of crap!” etc etc. Anyway here’s the song that sort of ruined my wife’s birthday. I hope most people’s reaction to it will be somewhere between her uncontrollable crying and my complete dismissal of it.
I got a question: there are lots of movies like Shape of Water, Swamp Thing, Beauty & the Beast where a lady falls in love with a gentleman monster... are there any where a gentleman falls in love with a lady monster?

This was my first dream of 2019, in which my roommates (?) pressure me to dress up like obscure marvel villain Kang the Conqueror (worth a google!) This is where it gets embarrassing to share how much old school marvel trivia is kicking around my subconscious. Was Kang the one who made Captain Marvel give birth to her own husband? I can’t remember and don’t want to.
