South Korean beauty standards take shit to the next. Fucking. Level. Women are evaluated in totality based on every minor physical detail and whether it matches the ideal to the point where their decision to go under the knife for procedures the likes of blepharoplasty (surgery on their eyelids) is a main determinant of whether they get a job. For them, shit like this is an expectation. Fuck that garbage, burn it up ladies.
In Korea you are literally REQUIRED to have a headshot with your application. Your physical appearance is a major vetting point in the interview. Applicants have literally been told to bleach their skin for jobs. Seoul is the plastic surgery capital of the world.
This is HUGE for them. Support them. Even if you love makeup, their beauty culture is TOXIC. Support this movement

DON’T SCROLL PAST THIS
for the last 2+ weeks, the Amazon has been catching fire. Yes, it’s the season where that’s normal but because of the sayings (aka incentive) of our new president, some farmers are taking advantage of that and intentionally setting the trees on fire. Yesterday, because of this, the sky of São Paulo looked like this. AT THREE IN THE AFTERNOON.
Hospitals of the northern states are filling up with people (especially children and seniors) claiming they can’t breathe properly. ALREADY ENDANGERED ANIMALS ARE DYING. THIS IS SERIOUS.
Germany and Norway, huge donators to the Amazon cause will stop sending money because they don’t see results (that can also be credited to our president, who has been tweeting angrily ever since - not because he cares about the environment, btw). That money gives this guy and his team equipment to save little guys like these:
THIS AFFECTS EVERYONE, NOT JUST BRAZILIANS. The Amazon is the largest rainforest in the world, and it’s being destroyed. WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.
If your country is holding elections, vote for someone who cares about this. Don’t let another Bolsonaro or another Trump have the power to do something and then do nothing. This is going to shape our future — if we have one.
PLEASE REBLOG, EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS!!
side note: not to sound bitter or ungrateful but also like what’s up with Europe… y’all exploited South America for centuries but just because you “aren’t seeing results” you stop helping altogether?? if you really wanted to help you wouldn’t stop because you think you aren’t helping lol
theres a petition going around. PLEASE sign it. this is HUGE
Please reblog to spread the news. This is important.

Things food snobs are wrong about
- “Organic” isn’t better for you or for the environment. It actually means nothing of any significance at best and is sometimes even the more wasteful, more hazardous option.
- A shitload of “natural” food including a lot of imported produce is grown and harvested through slave labor in inhumane conditions.
- Pizza, fried chicken, french fries, fast food, candy bars and chips ARE nutritious. They are loaded with good things. Just because they have an abundance of excess fats and might not be healthy as a staple doesn’t mean they are “nutritionless” or that their calories are “empty.” Those are hokey buzzwords pushed by the people in charge of how much you pay for the alternatives.
- Eating healthier costs more. Much more. Looking down on people for their reliance on cheaper food is extremely classist and expecting everyone to be able to live off fresh veggies and cage-free meats is insultingly unrealistic in the modern world.
- “Processed” literally only means the food went through some kind of automated process. This can be literally the exact same thing a human being would have done to the food for it to be labeled “unprocessed.” Being processed does not make something less healthy.
- Chemicals with long, scary names are part of nature. An apple is full of compounds you probably can’t pronounce. A shorter ingredients label only means they didn’t bother listing all 300 things the product is actually made of and HAS to be made of.
- Preservatives, artificial flavors and other additives are not the devil. Most are harmless and in general they are part of the reason you haven’t already starved to death or died of a food borne illness.
- MSG is not bad for you at all.
- The fact that something might be made of “scrap” meats like pig snouts or chicken necks only means one thing: that we didn’t waste perfectly normal, edible meat.
- I DON’T KNOW HOW I FORGOT THIS IN MY FIRST VERSION OF THIS POST BUT GMO’S ARE NOT DANGEROUS TO EAT. GMO’S ARE SAVING LIVES. YOU’VE ALREADY EATEN GMO’S BEFORE YOU EVEN KNEW THE TERM. IT’S FINE. EAT THEM.
So I’ve literally done this twice before and so have several other people but here are sources on all of these, most of them fairly recent academic studies or otherwise the most up-to-date I could find:
- Organic food isn’t better for you: [1] [2] [3]
- Tracing food industry slave labor: [1]
- Healthier food is more expensive: [1] [2]
- Saturated fats (i.e. “junk food”) still provide needed energy, aren’t as bad as people thought: [1] [2]
- “Processed” isn’t synonymous with less healthy, because it means a lot of different things: [1]
- “Chemicals” also means a lot of things and many food components are misunderstood by the general public: [1]
- MSG is not harmful: [1] [2] [3]
- GMO’s are not dangerous to eat: [400 sources collected here]
“Processed” always gets me, it’s like yeah even that delicious homemade salsa you brought to the party is processed - the moment you took a knife to the tomatoes it underwent processing
Hello! I want to expound on some of these from my personal knowledge gathered over time from documentaries (I can’t remember their names I’m sorry) detailing how large corporations/monopolies negatively affect agriculture and animal rearing (idk the name for this), and reading and educating myself about nutrition.
Literally everything we eat is technically a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO). Corn, potatoes, tomatoes, cow, chicken, duck, wheat, soy beans, rice, peaches, nuts, if it’s in the grocery store it is almost definitely a GMO. Your dog and cat and horse is a GMO. Humans have been genetically modifying animals and plants for almost as long as we have been human.
Now, large corporations using gene editing technology such as Monsanto are where issues arise, as these companies edit the genes to create sterile plants so that farmers cannot save the seeds to grow them next season and are locked in a cycle of forced dependency on companies like Monsanto. They also sue farmers that don’t buy from them when pollinators cross pollinate between Monsanto bred plants and heirloom(?) plants.
Large corporations are also responsible for issues with animal treatment for chicken/pig/cattle raising (you know those stories how chickens don’t have the muscles to walk and are kept in dark warehouses or cages for egglaying and never see the light of day? Large corporations).
I have found that shopping at international food stores means you can get rice, beans, lentils, and spices for much cheaper than chain grocery stores. You can also get whole grain rice (basically brown, red, black, etc rice that has not been processed to remove the outer shell where most of the nutrients are) for much cheaper and much more quantity of it.
“less processed is better for you!” eehhhh, depends on the process, like OP said processing is literally anything done to the food. However, less processed flour, rice, and grains can be better for you if they have not been processed to remove the outer shell of the grain, as these parts of the grains to make flour and these parts of the rice are where most of the fiber and nutrients are, hence why whole wheat flour, whole grain flour, and rice with their outer shells intact are ‘better’ for you as they have more nutrition and more fiber. If you have a typical american diet, you probably aren’t getting enough fiber, so an easy way to get more is to swap white flour/bread for whole wheat/grain flour/bread, and the nutrients contained therein won’t hurt either.

Matilda (1996), dir. Danny DeVito
hold up Danny DeVito directed the most influential film of my childhood?
Not only directed it but starred in it, took care of Mara Wilson (Matilda) while her mother was in hospital with cancer and even managed to get an advanced copy of the movie for her to watch before she succumbed to her illness. The man is a treasure.
The best story I’ve heard about the production of Matilda was:
The scene where Matilda was dancing around her living room making things fly around to the song “Little Bitty Pretty One” was very nerve-wracking for Mara. She told Danny that she was anxious to do the scene, and he said, “You know why? Because you’re the only one dancing! We just have to have everyone else dance too! Then it won’t be scary!”
So everyone–the crew, the rest of the cast, the people at the craft services table, everyone–danced along with the song, at Danny’s insistence. Apparently the only one who wasn’t doing the full on dance was the camera man, who just did a foot shuffle so the camera wouldn’t jiggle.
If that’s not the sweetest thing ever I don’t know what is.
That is so cute. And sweet.
