A broken system!

One of my former roommates was British. He was white, male, educated, a nurse, spoke English, married an American, and wouldn’t know how to commit a crime if you gave him instructions and a subscription to Investigation Discovery. He was everything the people who say “They should enter the country LEGALLY” would want from an immigrant. He did everything by the book.

He was still dealing with trying to get the whole process done and sorted when I moved out and he’d been doing it for TEN FUCKING YEARS.

He tried for ten years and didn’t decide in all that time that it wasn’t worth the effort?  Was he just continuing out of spite?  Sunk cost fallacy?  What was the reasoning behind this?

Like I said, he was married to an American. He didn’t have family, she had a big one. He wanted to stay here with her and her family, not move back to England. The assumption that he was just supposed to give up eventually pretty much sums up everything that’s wrong with our current immigration system.
