That's why I get so livid when people hate her and ask why she didn't come see him sooner.

She couldn't. Literally. Gwen was under surveillance.

Gwen was begging Jess not to tell Miguel and he already knew. This girl's fear of being found out and sent home is very real and justified, that's because she still didn't seem to know that Miguel was watching her from the beginning.

She was already screwed by the time she arrived on Earth-1610 because Miguel knew she went to see Miles and broke his main protocol at the moment she could go to his dimension.

And despite all the fear she went. She saw Miles.

And she was going to possibly get kicked out anyway even if she got the spot and Miles didn't go after her.

So if I see one more Hater say why she didn't come see him sooner, I'll show it.

Gwen didn't go see him because she literally 👏🏽couldn't.👏🏽

Because I know that the moment her clock is programmed to Earth-1610, Miguel would block on time because it is obvious that Gwen is in his crosshairs all the time. And not only would she be sent to a house that her father had held a gun to her head, but then she would never be able to see Miles again because she would no longer have the technology.

If having an official mission from the Society, Miguel was already on her head, imagine what it was like in the preoccupation work of preventing her from flying straight to Miles? Miguel is not stupid.

Gwen would inevitably be kicked out of spider society. She loves Miles too much to stay away.

And Miguel knows this.

He knows that all Gwen needed to go to Miles was an alibi.

I don't know if this is stupid, but I almost wanted to cry when I saw how the older Spiders were treating Gwen. She was in such a vulnerable place, unable to go home to her father without risking imprisonment for a crime she did not commit, and the older spiders were using her fear and her need for a community to get her to turn against Miles and do the right (read: wrong) thing. I was so sad and scared for her. I wanted to scream at Jess and Miguel. I know they aren't bad people, but what they were doing to Gwen was atrocious. She is a child, a human being, and she did not deserve any of that manipulation. Holy fuck, I am so glad she convened that alternate spider society at the end with Pavitr, Hobie, and the others. She needs that support so badly, and they are truly a group of people she can trust. I am so glad she reconciled with her father, too. She deserves so much better than those assholes who treated her, quite frankly, like an implement of their grand plans, and not like an actual person. The animation really emphasized her emotions through her facial expressions, too. She always looked so terrified or angry at her circumstances. She was rarely at peace, and that haunts me. I hope she can find that peace with Miles, her father, and her friends. I hope she can have a better life than what she is living now.

As someone who will never join Threads, I find there to be something exceptionally insidious about the part of its dogshit privacy practices where it collects users’ contact data.

A lot of people have my phone number, and not all of them take privacy seriously. A few of them are bound to join Threads at some point. This means I never even have to join the platform for it to collect my full name, contact info, current or past address, and reconstruct at least part of my social and/or professional circle. Despite the fact that I have never agreed to any of this, it is completely legal since people with my contact info have consented to Meta collecting their (and therefore my) info. I hate it here 🫠

I want to share some wisdom from my high school art teacher.

In my AP Art class, there was a girl who was just starting to experiment with mixed media. At this point she was still playing around, trying to decide what direction she wanted to go with her portfolio. So one critique day, she brought in an abstract canvas with some rhinestone highlights and painted and real peacock feathers. She loved sparkles and peacock feathers so she thought she’d try introducing them a *little*. And after everyone had given some input, the teacher gave her his advice, VERY roughly paraphrased here:

“So here’s the thing… I do not like this style. These are just elements that do not speak to me personally, but I see that you like them, and you’re doing interesting things with them.

“My biggest critique is, I only merely *dislike* this piece. I want you to make me HATE it. Go crazy with the things that you like. Don’t hold back trying to make it palatable to people like me. Because I am NEVER going to like it. And if the audience does not like it, it should drive them crazy seeing how much YOU love it.”

Her portfolio was chock full of neon colors and glitter and rhinestones and splashes of peacock feathers and it was a delight. Our teacher despised every piece lol, but she got great marks and I think even won some awards. And more importantly, she was happy and proud of the results. Because she didn’t limit herself by trying to appeal to people who were never going to enjoy what she enjoyed.

Takeaway here: be as cringe as you want. Don’t limit yourself based on other ppl’s tastes. They’re not you, and you are incredible 💕
