HEY ARTISTS!
Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and you’re tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:
OPEN ANY CATEGORY AND OH LORDY–
There’s a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to I’m gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! :)
Did you find this helpful? If you’re able, maybe buy me a coffee please? :D
do you think the obsession with ‘style consistency’ in online art communities is mostly caused by this idea that your art style needs to be easily marketable & recognizable as a brand (especially when you’re working as a freelancer). i see the /least/ amount of progress in my art whenever i try to aim for style consistency. i don’t know exactly where i’m going with this but i think there’s some sort of connection between trying to monetize/market your art & limiting your growth as an artist. and i think it’s very sad.
"people use AO3 because of the lack of censorship which makes them feel free to write" no you idiot it's because it has a half-decent organization system that isn't present in any alternative i actually think it would be good if AO3 had some decent moderation and in fact I'd be inclined to use it more if i knew i could browse innocuous tags without having the worst things in the world shoved down my throat
Hi! I’m really sick of whitewashing and the various excuses that artists come up with, so I wrote a guide! How To Not Whitewash, at least with regards to skin tone. Please make use of it, and encourage other artists to do so as well. Here’s a link to this guide on a Google Doc - this document has image descriptions. Feel free to contact me if the link stops working, or if you have questions (in good faith).

Gonna be real here, don’t remember ever seeing this post let alone REBLOGGING it
this leaves out the most crucial tip you’ll ever need:
-site:pinterest.*
excludes the entirety of pinterest’s evil domainverse from image search
Reblogging for the Pinterest addition
when ppl say “let men wear skirts/dresses” that also means
- without people being creepy / treating them like a fetish
- without people acting like being gnc is “”adult”” or “”private”” or somehow dirty
- without people expecting them to alter the rest of their appearance to “fit” (not everyone who wants to wear a dress also wants to wax their whole body or apply a full face of makeup)
skirts and dresses are literally just clothes. they’re just clothes. leave gnc men alone
Also men don’t need to be skinny, hairless, or white to wear dresses!!
Places To Post Original Fiction
1.) Commaful – a friendly and supportive writing community, smaller but denser than Wattpad, and far more active and engaging.
2.) FictionPress – original fiction’s answer to FanFiction.net. If you’re familiar with that format, you’ll be familiar with this.
3.) Smashwords – an ebook publishing platform that also welcomes short stories, and collections thereof.
4.) WritersCafe – old-school but solid, with an active community and plenty of contests/challenges to get the creative juices pumping.
5.) Medium – a place where you can post, essentially, anything and everything. Articles and non-fiction are its biggest market, but fiction is welcome as well.
6.) Booksie – less community-based, with fewer interactions and comments. However, it still attracts great talent, and can be great for authors who are shy and don’t want to get bombarded with interaction.
7.) RoyalRoad – a rich community, with a strong emphasis on mutual support between authors. Focuses on web novels, fanfiction, and original stories.
8.) FanStory – an oldie but a goody. Don’t be fooled by the name – it seems to be predominantly original fiction, and offers contests with cash prizes.
9.) Young Writers Society – as the name suggests, oriented towards writers in their teens and twenties, but is by no means exclusive to authors of this age bracket.
10.) Wattpad – Wattpad provides users with the opportunity to post original fiction and gain a loyal following. It’s not for everyone, but some people swear by it.
On that note, you can also post original fiction to AO3 and FanFiction, but as they are predominantly for fan works, I decided not to include them on this list. What’s your favorite way to post original fiction?
Happy writing, everybody!
An adventuring party where each member hates the rest of the party defeats the dark lord with the power of hatred rather than friendship.
it really is next to impossible to write realistic sibling dialogue, I just passed my brother on the stairs and instead of greeting each other like human beings I said ‘born survivor’ and he said ‘youtube rewind. let’s set it to rewind.’ like you ain’t gonna find that shit in a novel
aw man writing siblings is so wild because sometimes you just can’t portray it
me and my little brother don’t even greet each other - if we pass each other on the stairs or in the corridor, we jump into ridiculous fight stances then feign karate chopping and slapping each other (stopping just before we make contact) whilst making “HIIIYA” and “POW” noises for a solid 30 seconds, then silently walk off and continue what we were doing
and then sometimes he’ll either just do the Had To Do It To ‘Em pose when I enter the room or dab as a greeting
exactly! I have three younger brothers and the original post was just about the oldest, the middle one and me usually do some kind of elaborate dab also, and a lot of the time when I see the youngest I just yell his name like a wrestling commentator…siblings have a different language
my twin brother and I just point at each other like that spider-man meme if we see each other at school
every time we see each other my brother and i raise our elbows and start walking at each other/ standing completely still
its exactly like this
I’ve been thinking about this post for the last six months, I am so glad that it finally appeared on my dashboard again, thank you.
Incredibly fucking slow at it 🤧
i fixed it
Cinderella was too weak to fight for herself...AND THAT’S OKAY!
I cannot believe we’re still tearing Cinderella down! 2018 only has a few months left and we’re still doing this, we’re still painting her as the weakest Disney princess and we’re still painting her weakness as a bad thing?
Why?
Why are people so caught up on bashing this princess?
“The movie is so simplistic—”
In what way is it possibly simplistic?!
“She didn’t work hard—”
YES, SHE DID!
“Well, okay, but the fairy godmother still had to come in—”
Yep, I remember the movie too, and the countless stories on which it’s based.
“So the fairy godmother was the one who caused the happily ever after.”
She sure was, now, what’s your point?
No, really, what’s your point? Is the point that Cinderella is somehow weak because she wasn’t 100% in control of her own life? Seems like a pretty disgusting opinion to have when the whole movie is about an abuse victim finding a way out of her horrible situation. So Cinderella wasn’t the one who got herself out. So what? Instead of looking the movie at its bare surface, maybe try analyzing it with a bit more thought and tact. You might see something a little different. A magical transformation, if you will.
Because Cinderella did work hard.
And guess what we learned from that?
You can work
and work
and work
And there will still be people out there who will try to tear you apart:
Literally.
And that sucks. It’s a horrible lesson to learn but it is something we will all face in our lifetimes. There will always be people who will try to tear us down, there will always be people who will try to rip us apart, until we’re in a low place:
Until it seems like there’s no hope…
Until it seems like you’re too weak to get out on your own…
And maybe you are.
Maybe you are too weak to get out on your own. Maybe you’re not the strongest woman in the world. Maybe you’re not capable of screaming at the top of your lungs or brandishing a weapon or throwing a punch. Maybe you’re not able to get out of something on your own. Maybe you hit a low point and maybe you have no way out of it. Not alone. But that’s just it.
You’re not alone.
Even at your lowest point, someone will come help you.
You don’t have to do it all alone.
It’s okay to have a little help when you have nowhere else to turn.
Cinderella is the story about an abuse victim who is unable to get out of her toxic situation by herself and just when she begins to lose all hope, is able to get help from an unlikely source. It’s the story about a girl who needs help getting to her happily ever after and that’s okay.
Give us advocates:
They deserve their happily ever afters!
Give us warriors:
They deserve their happily ever afters!
Give us fighters:
They deserve their happily ever afters!
Give us girls who are not advocates, girls who are not warriors, girls who are not fighters, girls who still deserves their happily ever afters:
Cinderalla was brave enough to have hope and to speak up, too. She did not need a fairy god mother or mice to speak up for her when she heard the decree that “all eligible maiden” were to attend the ball. She spoke for herself. She called out Lucifer the cat, too, when he was horrible.
She was also a role model of kindness. She did not let her grief over losing her parents, her way of life, and her freedom turn her into a bitter, sullen person. She did try to take care of the family forced upon her. One thing I really liked in the third sequel is that Anastasia was redeemed, partly because she learned to sympathize with Cinderella and chose to change the path she was on, and partly because Cinderella still dared to be kind. (I also love the moments between the king and Anastasia. And of course, the prince defenestrating himself was the highlight of the movie for me, haha!)
Hey guys! As a writer myself, it’s hard to have a lot of resources for writing in one place. That’s why I decided to create this masterpost, and maybe make more if I find future resources. I hope you like it, and expect to see more masterposts like this in the future!

Writing Tips Blogs
This is really useful.
can I be bitter and pretentious for a sec? ok, I absolutely hate that if your art/writing isn’t fandom-based it’s WAY harder to get it attention online. for a while I considered only doing fanart for attention LOL
you know I could turn this into a rant about the impact of capitalism and consumerism on art but i’m generous enough to not
i’m now learning how many fandom artists don’t even enjoy making that content but do it so it’s easy to get recognized /: you’re all braver than the troops
trying to get your story together like:
Explaining your story to a willing ear:
“I really like your story! is there more?”
“I like this character, is there more about them?”
When they ask “What happens next?” and you haven’t figured it out yet.
When you have figured things out but you haven’t written/drawn anything yet, and trying to figure out how to:
When you only write and draw things out of order and everything remains in the drafting stage:
shout out to fanfiction authors for giving me awesome shit for free on a daily basis
sharing this here because it is very important :/
