Hello, I loved your analysis between Greg and Marianne's relationship
I would love to know what are your thoughts on that scene where Greg is cancelling his cards, because his mom is panic buying a bunch of stuff (I think because she's scared he's gonna lose his job, i think?)
I'm curious what in you think? And sorry if it's a bother!
I do very much want to talk more about Marianne and Greg and the fact that he was a GUARANTOR on her credit card????? According to the script, I haven't watched it in a bit but my friend linked me the part in the script where that happened.
which is, like, fucked. Being a guarantor for someone's debt is a very big comittment and in my understanding is not something they let just anyone do? He would have to likely show proof he would be reliable, as in, his paystubs from his job.
and if Ewan did indeed cut her off during the show, [I can't recall what he actually said vs the script piece i posted] (presumably because she encouraged Greg to go to Waystar and Greg wouldn't quit, which is abhorrant).
As well, with regard to buying nutribullets, I am assuming that she was doing that with the idea she might be able to resell them, as a backup plan.... and investing your money is fairly wise! Probably not investing it in nutribullets.... but she got the spirit. Either way, it very much screams that she knows scarcity and has very little idea how to manage money properly.
Which, managing money is genuinely hard. I have a taken a course on financial education for my previous job and one of the first things we learn is that money is an emotional topic that is often wrapped up in guilt and shame and pain, and people try to move away from the pain by ignoring it. Ewan clearly did not teach her how to manage her money, or do anything to encourage her to learn on her own.
It's very sad to me. This is why I feel that Ewan is just living in a delusion where his child and grandchild should just be living as if money doesn't exist, and that he thinks it's the root of all evil. I also think money is highly evil, and our economic system SUCKS ass and that financial management being a basic life skill is frustrating because it's scary and complicated and inaccessible as hell. But pretending it doesn't exist is not going to help you or anyone until we can actually dismantle the system (notably, Ewan does nothing to help that either!)
i've seen a couple people say, "When did Greg get comfortable/confident enough to just walk up to the almost President Elect" like babes,,,
his sheer audacity is one of his most core traits. yes he comes across as nervous and awkward, but the very first episode he invites himself to Logan's birthday party (at his mother's insistence, but still) and bodily forces his way in if i remember correctly, asks him for a job, and then hounds Tom about the job while Logan actively is in the hospital. he's always been desperate and confident enough to say anything to anyone. this is also why it makes sense that he's not scared of shiv. tom has physically assaulted him and he's still not even scared of tom, he's really not scared of anything other than losing money and maybe his grandfather (and, dare I say, losing tom?)
Greg and Marianne are so interesting, in addition to Greg and Ewan (and the fact we somehow never got any interactions between Marianne and Ewan?). @mossiestpiglet said in the tags of a post that we don't talk about them enough, and I concur. So allow me to do so.
I really do need to re-watch the early episodes to confirm, but from my memory, Marianne says she can't give Greg money and encourages him to go to New York City to ask for a job from Logan despite having, like, $20 left when he arrives (which makes it a huge gamble to do, given how fucking expensive NYC is otherwise). And despite the fact her own father would hate this, and wants Greg to have nothing to do with Logan. I always took it to mean she was not willing to give him money, but later on Greg talks to Caroline how his mother is solvent, debt free now. And even later, he's paying for her credit cards. So perhaps she simply had none to give.
Still, I remember getting the feeling that she was tired of dealing with him in the first few episodes and I sort of think that's part of it, but I also think she just can't help him any more than she has. She probably feels like a total failure, I mean, look at her cousins in comparison. Sure, we as the audience know they are complete messes, but at least they're rich and have the freedom to do whatever the fuck they want. Marianne at the very least does not have that luxury, and I'll say more on the financial situation throughout this post.
Greg is very clingy to her early, on and I believe they're implied to still be in contact afterwards. I think Ewan says that Marianne asked him to make sure Greg ate at Thanksgiving- that means Marianne is worrying over him going hungry (and he was going hungry, he was stealing food from work and Tom made fun of him for it).
the barbie movie is estimated to make 1 barbillion dollars
Will Graham you fumbled the bag so hard with Matthew Brown
@horrorlesbians we could have had it all
WAIT. I HAVE MORE
I am so incredibly sorry. I have so many IASIP thoughts going through my head. Like yeah MacDennis canon(ish) and I’m relishing in this moment, but like that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I am absolutely spinning rn. Not phased at Bryan and Aaron next episode. What I am REELING at is this screengrab I took.
Yes my nefarious little shithead (affectionately) . I love him. I despise him. My south Philly white trash. But that is not what I’m here to talk about. Please direct your attention to Ronald MacDonald’s ear.
IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS??? Did this motherfucker get his ear pierced???? Why is this the thing sending me into a spiral? Not the beads. Not the Johnny of it all. But this motherfucker piercing his EAR?
I literally want to give him shaken baby syndrome. That’s my jawn right there frfr.
just had a thought you gotta follow me on
jesse says that him and kelvin did martial arts together as kids
gideon's bedroom has TONS of belts meaning that while he was living at home he ALSO did martial arts
given their age spread...it's absolutely possible that teen jesse and young kelvin did martial arts together...and then also 20s jesse, teen kelvin and toddler gideon did too.
She just wanted to say goodbye.
