So pretty. 😊
Miiriya is an app that lets you shop black owned businesses all on one app, like Amazon or Etsy but for black owned businesses, giving access to black businesses that we comparatively and relatively don’t have access to.
The word Miiriya is a word from the African language of Bambara/Dioula, my native language. The word means “Thoughts” and “Ideas.” It can be used in many ways. In specific cases you can use it with other words to mean “Philosophers” or “Thinkers.”
There are no transaction fees and no listing fees, I pay the vendors credit card and PayPal fees out of pocket as well so they get 100% of their earnings. I also pay out of pocket to maintain the website’s bills.
My goal is to create convenience for shoppers who want to support black businesses seamlessly, a priviegde others have but black people don't because there almost no black owned businesses in their own communities. This will help with boycotts and recirculating the black dollar.
My goal for the site in the community is to run this website in a socialistic way, like Wikipedia and PBS. There absolutely no fees for vendors, and all money made from the site will be seeped back into solving different issues in our community. In the future, I plan to have optional donations where the public and vendors can participate, and this website will be used to fund issues we always have to beg to be solved. I plan to put things like community fridges in front of businesses and houses, where people who are hungry in the community can just open them and not have to go without food. I also plan to use any funds to fund the community’s healthcare, education, and more. I want to run this in a different way than other businesses, where the main goal is to make sure no one is left behind. I want to reach a point where If we see someone on the street who is struggling/homeless, we take them off the street, and better their lives. I’d like us to reach a point where we’d fund ourselves so we don’t have to rely and beg outside sources that continuously give us crumbs over the span of decades.
It’s pronounced Me – e – ree – ya Me as in myself, E like the letter E, Ree like the Ree in Reel (but with a Spanish R) and Ya.
You can find Miiriya on iOS and Android. Please let someone know this app exists.
