sorry to the gifter of my checkmarks but i’m turning them off for now considering that badges were cited as one of the incentives for the icon removal change.

it might be too late (i didn’t think of this until now of course) but if you also got put into the no icon test group and you have any badges it might be worth you also turning them all off, in addition to sending a feedback ticket of course. given that they cited ‘more room for badges’ for this horrid thing and hiding them is cutting off one small avenue of advertising something you can buy on this site, it’s… something else to do in response, at least. my misery is increasing.

this seems to have reached people who aren’t in the unlucky half of the A/B test, so to clarify:

staff is experimenting with completely removing the large floating icons to the left of posts on desktop. the icons that allow you to clearly identify yourself to people who follow you even if you change URLs and allow you to identify who reblogged a post at a glance, the icons that scroll down with you so you don’t need to scroll back up just to see their url. those icons, that we all like. there are no longer any icons for people on reblogs, only the small icons embedded into the body of posts for OPs. if you reblog a post, you are faceless. if you want to identify who reblogged a post, you have to stop and look back up.

i know a lot of you are probably on mobile, but just try to imagine if you had no icons in the header for reblogs. just two URLs and the reblog icon. it has made desktop tumblr into an absolutely miserable and incomprehensible mash of impersonal content for the sake of modernity and streamlining (aka parroting twitter, because twitter doesn’t have icons for retweets, nevermind that retweets and reblogs are two functionally different things), and this UI’s inherent reliance on “just read their url lol” is awful for anyone with vision or word comprehension problems and impractical for a site with url changing. as someone who could take or leave the new dashboard i cannot stand this specific change.

do not @ staff about it. send feedback tickets. if you’re not in the testing group that’s removed icons, you can probably still send a feedback ticket just begging them not to give it to you. you should do that.

So let’s talk about Flex.

I’ve been getting email from them and my apartment complex. Flex is a new payment options where they take your rent and divide it over two to four payments. But of course flex has it own fee.

So essentially Flex pays your rent with a fee and you pay flex back. Sounds good right.

But I did some digging because they are pushing this so hard.

Come to find out, Flex is horrible. It doesn’t tell you how much the fee is until you sign up. Once you sign up it’s damm near impossible to get out of it.

So let’s say you need to split September rent, but in October you are fine. You still have to go thru flex and pay the fee.

Then I found this article. Not only could the lady not get out of flex, she ended up oweing them about 1k in fees.

That article also states that Flex as a business has 1 out of 5 stars on BBB. Their customer service is damm never nonexistent.

But I think we are missing a bigger issue. Apartments are pushing flex because they know people can not afford the rent. And because people can’t afford the rent there are more evictions and loss of payment. So instead of lowering the rent they push flex. They want it to seem like they are helping when they are not.

Most people get evicted and the apartment never get their money. 7 years later it falls off your credit report.

So to keep people in these buildings and to keep a steady income they offer some shit like flex.

It’s predatory and will most likely leave a tenant in worst standing than before.

Please don’t use it.

I also never subscribed to Flex at all. Never been on their site. So my apartment complex had to mass sign us up for these emails. That alone piss me off because I never gave permission.

This week it is Florida, but the same applies.

Adding to this, Hurricanes can and WILL shift at the last minute and so an area that was SUPPOSED to be hit is no longer in the danger zone, but they had already evacuated. But now the new area has to be evacuated, sometimes in less that 12 hours and that means shelters have to be opened up, emergency services need to be in place, people who were off now have to be on call, it is honestly a logistical nightmare.

This time also has a disaster within a disaster because apparently there was a HUGE fuel contamination issue, and a lot of gas got contaminated with diesel so now people CAN'T evacuate because their cards are dead/at risk of dying due to getting the contaminated gas.
