Haley's Horror Recs

Who needs to go out on a Saturday when you can stay in and watch a horror movie?

SPREE

Slasher/Found Footage/Horror Comedy

Kurt is a wannabe influencer who will do ANYTHING for likes, views, and follows. His current gig as a ride share driver gives him the perfect opportunity to live stream his out there plan to get famous.

You should watch this if: You like a movie thats just a totally wild ride. You like when the toxicity of influencer culture is highlighted in a way that wasn't clearly written by a boomer just using words he learned on tiktok. You're a Joe Keery stan (warning though he isn't hot in this lol).

Available to watch on Hulu

(If you like this try; Bodies Bodies Bodies, American Psycho, Behind the Mask, Scream)

Happy Friday, Horror Hounds!

CRAWL

Creature

Instead of evacuating for the oncoming hurricane, Haley goes back to rescue her father and his dog. (SPOILER the dog lives thank God.) They end up trapped in the flood and find themselves surrounded by enormous alligators with little hopes of escaping.

You should watch if: You enjoy a good animal attack movie. You like a lot of action and suspense. You like a creature movie where the animal isn't actually elusive and you see it a lot throughout the movie.

Available to watch on Amazon Prime, or available to rent.

(If you like this try; Lake Placid, Jaws, The Meg, A Quiet Place, Anaconda)

Its Thursday! Do you know what that means? No? Neither do I, have a horror recommendation!

LAKE MUNGO

Paranormal/Found Footage

When a teenage girl drowns, her family is soon surrounded by strange things happening in their home. One investigation turns into another and they find that Alice may have been keeping a lot of secrets leading to her death.

You should watch if: You're a found footage junkie like me. You love a very eerie atmosphere. You like a bit of mystery with your scares. You like creepy imagery and things that you will keep thinking about.

Available to rent

(If you like this try; Twin Peaks, The Ring, Hell House LLC, Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project)

as a kid i had one of those “there’s a monster under my bed” moments except real.

every night i would cry about a ghost or something trying to scare me by knocking on my bedroom windows and walls. like, really loudly, every hour or so, every night. only at night. so my dad was like “heh okay kiddo let’s check it out :) ah see? there’s nothing here :)” and left.

until years later he admitted to me that he did in fact hear the unexplainable knocking when he slept in that room one night, and it kept him awake with fear. and suddenly felt awful for not believing little kid me.

imagine your kid being like “daddy there’s a demon in my closet” and you being like ok son lemme just check that for you :). and you open the door and there’s a demon in the closet

WHAT

Review of a butterfly farm… 🦋

Avatar

I interned at a place w butterflies and had to tell a mom to please stop offering the “snacks” on the pedestals to her kids and we had to give a speech to all the ppl who entered which I added lines to daily. Including the infamous “butterflies like fruit that’s a little older than what we eat, so the fruit is just for them! Please don’t eat it!” And “please please please please please don’t come in here if you’re afraid of butterflies.” It was the closest thing to hell I’ve ever experienced

*going to a butterfly farm* there better not be any fuckin butterflies in here

*going to a butterfly farm* this will surely take my mind off the life-ruining curse that a witch placed upon me that forces me to eat any fruit i see no matter what

Who needs a horror movie when you can deal with the terror of your work computer being a literal dinosaur with a mind of its own!!!!!! Nevertheless, here you go. Hang on to your hats, this is a weird one.

BUBBA HO-TEP

Mummy?

When Elvis (yes this movie is about Elvis) gets tired of being the King, he seeks out an Elvis impersonator and switches bodies. So the real Elvis Presley is spending his golden years in a crummy retirement home in the body of an impersonator, and no one will believe he is actually who he says he is. Why should they? Theres also a man running around the same place claiming to be JFK. Eventually, an ancient mummy finds its way to the retirement home and starts to suck people's souls out of their, pardon my French, assholes. Elvis and JFK have to team up to stop the mummy.

You should watch if: That description didn't totally scare you away. Thats all I got. Also Bruce Campbell is a big selling point.

Available to watch on Pluto, Tubi, and Freevee

(If you like this try; The Mummy, Elvis, The Evil Dead, Freaky Friday)
