The Regret
This is super hilarious to me. Because generally speaking, owls are way less intelligent than other raptors. So this moment is kinda like a grown adult suddenly getting slammed into place by an overgrown five year old.
Brent’s new dillow is super comfortable. However, since he’s been using it he’s only had sour dreams.
Denny’s are you okay?
On May 25, 2017, the moon photobombed one of our sun-watching satellites by passing directly between the satellite and the sun.
The Solar Dynamics Observatory, or SDO, orbits Earth and watches the sun nearly 24/7 — except when another body, like the moon, gets in the way. These lunar photobombs are called transits, the generic term for when any celestial body passes in front of another.
Transits are one way we detect distant worlds. When a planet in another star system passes in front of its host star, it blocks some of the star’s light so the star appears slightly dimmer. By monitoring changes in a star’s light over time, scientists can deduce the presence of a planet, and even determine what its atmosphere is like. This method has been used to discover thousands of planets, including the TRAPPIST-1 planets.
SDO sees lunar transits about twice a year, and this one lasted about an hour with the moon covering about 89 percent of the sun at the peak of its journey across the sun’s face.
When they’re seen from Earth, we call lunar transits by another name: eclipses.
Solar eclipses are just a special kind of transit where the moon blocks all or part of our view of the sun. Since SDO’s view of the sun was only partially blocked, it saw a partial eclipse. Later this year, on Aug. 21, a total eclipse will be observable from the ground: The moon will completely block the sun’s face in some parts of the US, creating a total solar eclipse on a 70-mile-wide stretch of land, called the path of totality, that runs from Oregon to South Carolina.
Throughout the rest of North America — and even in parts of South America, Africa, Europe and Asia — the moon will partially obscure the sun, creating a partial eclipse. SDO will also witness this partial eclipse.
Total solar eclipses are incredible, cosmic coincidences: The sun is about 400 times wider than the moon, but it also happens to be 400 times farther away, so the sun and moon appear to be the same size in our sky. This allows the moon to completely block the sun when they line up just right.
Within the path of totality, the moon completely obscures the sun’s bright face, revealing the comparatively faint corona — the sun’s pearly-white outer atmosphere.
It’s essential to observe eye safety during an eclipse. You must use proper eclipse glasses or an indirect viewing method when any part of the sun’s surface is exposed, whether during the partial phases of an eclipse, or just on a regular day. If you’re in the path of totality, you may look at the eclipse ONLY during the brief moments of totality.
A total solar eclipse is one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights, so make your plans now for August 21! You’ll also be able to see the eclipse cross the country that day through the eyes of NASA – including views of the partial eclipse from SDO – on NASA TV and at nasa.gov.
Learn more about the August eclipse — including where, when, and how to safely see it — at eclipse2017.nasa.gov and follow along on Twitter @NASASun.
PEA!
ATTTAAACK!
Good girl…Good Pea.
What a guilty look after I caught her in the act…
weirdo.
@why-animals-do-the-thing ???? is this beautiful babby in danger by doing this? Is this a particular kind of behavior or is pea just a silly billy?
Pea has been doing his for almost 3 years. I had originally used paper towel in her moist hide but she tore it up and ingested a 3-inch strip. She doesn’t touch the paper towel in her cool hide. My reptile vet commented that it’s very unusual behavior. A breeder mentioned that he’s heard of it once and it seemed prey-driven. When the leo was no longer given roaches, the behavior stopped. Trying different prey made no difference with Pea. She’s just weird. I love her.
She even does cute lil alligator rolls (:27)…
One day, I glanced over at her tank almost had a stroke because it looked like the hide was levitating…
But most of the time, she loves and hugs her blankie.
weirdo.
i love how in the middle of shedding, she decided it was absolutely necessary to attack the towel
pea is my favorite

Goldfish update no one asked for lol
90 gallon
Today I got to go on one of our runs to more rural shelters to help relieve overcrowding there. We ended up bringing back 21 kittens and 10 dogs. So fun day. But this morning, while I was getting stuff together in preparation for the 90 minute drive…. This happened.
Excuse you Tiniest Opossum, but you are NOT allowed to escape through the front bars of the cat carrier we were housing you in. I’m going to put you back.
“NO!”
I am going to catch you and put you back and you have no say in this matter.
“NO!”
Catching you and putting you back now.
“NOOOOOO!”
Aaaand back you go. Let go of the purple towel and go in the cardboard box.
“Noooooooooooo!”
I admit, I am in love with this tiny possum. Finding it in the hallway like that nearly caused me to die from adorableness and ridiculousness. I mean… it’s half the size of an adult syrian hamster and growling so fiercely that it was vibrating.
Scientists keep making incredible discoveries about the colorful creatures.
idk just dog things i guess 🐾
WHY DID THIS HAVE TO END
OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDD
this is my new favorite thing on the internet
Hey so, I’ve been volunteering at a horse rescue for the last few months and it’s been absolutely wonderful. They take in carriage horses who can no longer pull carriages or young horses who can’t carry riders due to injury or conformation issues and give them a safe home so they don’t have to go to slaughter.
Unfortunately, last year was a bad season for growing hay, and they had to pay more than their budget to feed the horses throughout the winter. Now they’re short on hay AND cash and asking for help.
The page for the hay drive is here. A bale of hay only costs $5CAD. I know a lot of us are broke as fuck but if you can spare $5 to help my horse friends, or even just pass this on, I would appreciate it so much!
These are the animals who are relying on A Horse Tale to provide a home and a happy ending:
Balou and Blanco, retired carriage horses
Ulysses and Saari, a bonded pair. Ulysses is a carriage horse who can no longer pull a carriage and Saari was a neglect case who came to us underweight and with laminitis.
Remady, a sweet young mare with neuro and possibly physio issues.
Rocky, a racer who broke an ankle and can no longer race
Buddy, AHT’s first rescue
Jack, a sweet boy who can’t be used for riding because he has Shivers
Smouch, who can’t carry a rider due to a conformation problem
And finally, our only pony, Chocolate!
Like I said, I know that most everyone on tumblr is short on money, but if you can help this place I would appreciate it so, so much. The work they’re doing is incredible, and being able to be there helps my state of mind immensely.
Thanks for reading!
I’ll probably reblog this a few times.
Please help my friends if you can!
take a fuckin sip, babes
Sure, cats falling off things is funny, but NOTHING is funnier than robots miscalculating the speed, force or angle needed to complete a mundane task. NOTHING.
#i have reason to believe cresties are governed by a form of ragdoll physics as of yet unknown and unstudied by man
That flailing motion of the legs is actually the crestie adjusting/stabilizing to better land on their perch. There’s a really cool tED talk (I’m gonna have to go find the link later) talking about how if you put a gecko in a wind tunnel they will actually start using a flapping motion with their legs to stabilize themselves and can actually somewhat glide and steer themselves over long jumps. Scientists think that the first birds may have started to evolve flight and wings out of this inherited reptile instinct to flap the front legs to stabilize and steer when jumping down from trees.
every animal is in its most powerful state when its tongue is unintentionally sticking out a little bit
Breaking news: The D.C. Appeals Court just killed Net Neutrality. This could be the end of the Internet as we know it. But it doesn’t have to be. Tell the FCC to restore Net Neutrality: http://bit.ly/1iOOjoe
they want to make the internet like tv. with channels and paying to get to specific websites and things. net neutrality = not doing that
This impacts every internet user. Please signal boost the hell out of this and sign the petition if you are American
I do not reblog things like this very often, but this affects me both personally and my business as a freelance artist.
In the economy here; cash is already strapped as it is. You bet your ass companies would suck the ever living life out of misc. art sites.
I don’t want it to ever come down to me choosing between groceries or purchasing a new tier package via comcast to be able to access tumblr or DeviantArt (let alone not guaranteeing I’ll even be seen by my customer base since they may not want to pay out their asses either). It doesn’t seem important to most, but I do 90% of my business online entirely.
Please sign up, fight for this and share it with your followers/friends/family and urge them to give them hell as well.
Not writing related, but this is incredibly important. While we pay for service via ISPs, the internet has been a relatively free space where everyone, no matter their income level, is able to connect, access a wealth of information, and express themselves. The Internet has become a major part of our culture as human beings and the notion that ISPs might be able to limit what sites I can access unless I pay them more is utterly sickening. A lot of us are cash strapped as is, and I’d rather not be limited even more by someone else’s greed. Net Neutrality is essential and I hope you guys will understand why it needs to remain.
-Morgan
P.S. Signal boost this if you’re able.
“ limit what sites I can access unless I pay them more”

As I understand this ruling, it means that businesses now have to pay extra to ISPs to have access to their websites through that ISP provided at a reasonable speed. If you don’t pay, users’ access to your website will be slowed to a crawl - so independent people and small businesses can forget about getting onto that high speed access tier.
This means that the American internet is going to be firmly under the control of those who have the most money. You’ll only get to see the content of those who can pay the ISPs to provide access at a reasonable speed. This means that you can expect to see skewed representation of just about everything, with those bigger businesses who can afford to pay ISPs a premium for access deciding what you can and cannot read, view and consume on the internet.
This is not something that we have in the UK. Our ISPs compete with each other to provide higher speeds, better services and lower prices, but because there’s a monopoly in the US of a few ISPs who provide services, they can afford to do this to you. You can’t go anywhere else, after all.
Everyone in the US needs to sign that petition, call their representatives, write angry letters and do whatever you can to tell your government that this ruling is Not Okay.
Maybe you guys are sick of this post but It’s really important to freelance artists and pretty much everyone who uses the internet, so here it is again. \o0o/
Signal boosting!!!
