The 'E is 'E-relevant.
You know, I thought I said everything I had to say last night after the Rumble, but I have to admit, I share the frustration of @backroad-traveler, @devilsfavoritecorporate and the rest of the Kane fans still lingering in the fandom.
Fact is…given the way the show ended, the ‘E is all about a quick fix of that media buzz. They don’t want to put in the work it takes to make a coherent and compelling program anymore. They’re just coasting on the remnants of the AE and RA eras, slapping the barest minimum of character work on their wrestlers and shoddy excuses of feuds for belts that only signify being the big fish in a small pond.
The quality of the matches might be elevated by the performers, but the creative team needs to do their part, too.
Ronda Rousey coming out in Piper’s jacket and font was creative bankruptcy of the highest order. NO EFFORT was put into giving her a distinctive look. But I didn’t see her tonight, so that could’ve changed.
And as much as I’d like to hope that tonight isn’t how Kane’s wrestling career comes to an end, part of me kind of hopes it is so that he isn’t subjected to any more of the bullshit that’s stained this last run.
I keep an eye on the ‘E still only for Kane and maybe Undertaker, but I’m not sure how much longer that’s going to continue.
