"[peter parker] kind of got a good moral psychology. he doesn’t have the limitations tony was born into by being in this military-industrial complex family."

this is something that I’ve always felt fandom doesn’t discuss enough. tony is a child of immense privilege, but at the same time he never got the privilege of being born with a "clean ledger".

steve had his physical limitations before the serum, and peter had and still has his financial limitations - they’re both the definition of a pure and untainted underdog at the beginning of their stories.

tony being born into this wealthy family of capitalistic war enthusiasts and industrialists was a limitation and handicap of its own. he never had the luxury of a moral or ethical high ground to begin with and the legacy of his family weighed him down from the start.

he literally had one of the most difficult prerequisites a future hero could possibly have (in a moral sense, not a logistic one. a shit-ton of money is of course very helpful when building your super-suit). that’s why his arc about freeing himself from these inherited limitations one step at a time is so compelling to me.

it needed some real hard work to get where he was at the very end.

In my opinion the key to understanding how to play Sherlock Holmes' character is to understand that his asshole energy is actually pretty low. This is a common mistake made by many great actors. His asshole energy is no higher than the common man's. What he does have is nearly LETHAL levels of bitch energy. Whichever neuron in the brain that senses when the bitch levels are too high and sends out the anti bitch hormone Holmes was born without. Like you're right Sherlock should never just be played as a nice guy but his abrasive and off-putting behaviors are due to bitch energy not asshole energy. It's a subtle difference but a vital one. Don't fight me guys I know a scientist

Exactly why Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes was so great.

“My people have a tale, about a Prince –– much hated by his King –– who was banished to the underworld and jailed there. The evil King gave him the most difficult labor –– working the iron pits.
Year after year the Prince mined the heavy ore, becoming so strong he could crush pieces of it together with his bare hands. Too late, the King realized his mistake.
When he struck at the Prince with his finest sword – it broke in half.
The Prince himself had become strong as iron.”
–– Iron Man (2008), original script
When he turned to go home, he heard the echoes of new words “May your heart remain breakable, but never by the same hand twice”. And even louder: “without your past, you could never have arrived- so wondrously and brutally, by design or some violent, exquisite happenstance… here.”
