J2 VegasCon 2016 Gold Panel
- They switched the red and blue mics to match their marks.
- The boys celebrate the s12 renewal and thank the fans.
- Jensen heard the renewal news from Jared. Jared on the phone: “Hey man, congratulations.” Jensen: What happened? What’s going on? Is my wife pregnant and she told him - or she told Gen who told him??
- Jared talks about how they all went and saw the movie, Gleason, in Austin and briefly talked about Steve Gleason, the NFL player the documentary is based on who was diagnosed with ALS and how inspiring and motivating he is.
- What story line would they like to go back to, or loose ends they want to tie up? Jared jokes they can’t tie up too many loose ends! Jensen brings up Benny and wants to “figure out if Dean did kill Cain, or if he didn’t.” Says that coming up there is an answer to a question that’s been asked for a long time. Jared: SHH!
- Jared bring up Jesse Turner and Adam. Jensen says he wants to see the heavenly celestial card game going on between John, Bobby, Rufus…
- Jared was a huge fan of first season of Lost, but in season two didn’t like how too many questions were being answered, implies sometimes it’s better to leave things mysterious or not tie up every loose end.
- Jensen talks about three things that piss him off when watching a show: When actors take shots of “whiskey” and act like it’s just water; when someone is driving a car and never checks mirrors or surroundings; and when actors will look at their marks.
- Jensen says sometimes the liquor on Supernatural is real, you never know. Jared: One of us usually knows ;)
- Jared tells the story of them spiking a drink and handing it to Kim Manners: “You fucking idiots.” :))
- Jensen talks about “The End” episode with future!Dean and says it’s more like glimpse!Dean, because it wasn’t a set future, it was a possible glimpse into the future.
- Jensen says he is comfortable and happy playing Dean.
- In the episode with Demon!Dean that Jensen directed, “Soul Survivor,” he fought with the writers over the hammer Demon!Dean goes after Sam with. The writers wanted it to be a knife but Jensen wanted the hammer.
- Longest it’s ever taken to get a scene and how many takes? They talk about Misha’s scene where it was so bad J2 were removed from the set - Misha refused to do it with J2 in the building so they were kicked out.
- Jensen says in earlier years Jared’s gas would clear the set for about half an hour. Not so much since he got married. Jensen: Gen worked her magic on you lol.
- Fan: I love Danneel. Jensen: Me too. Fan asks what character he would create for Danneel on the show and Jensen says that Danneel would enjoy playing an evil character.
- Jensen talks about the scene in the wrestling ring, says he just did one or two takes but editing cut and repeated all of it so it looked longer. If he knew they were going to do that he would have done more.
- A fan comments that it’s refreshing to have Sam and Dean talking this season. They ask if Jensen is planning on directing next season? Jensen: I don’t know - we just had a sit down conversation with Bob Singer and others and until we finish the season they don’t line the slots up. Jensen talks about how big of a commitment directing is and that there is a reason directors in television don’t direct eps back to back - but Jensen still has to film for Dean after directing. He loves the experience, though. They’ll see how things play out, and he’ll talk with Danneel about it, too. He says it sounds like they might be trying to bring back some directors we’ll love. The crew is family and they’re amazing. Jensen mentions if he doesn’t direct in s12 maybe they’ll get renewed for s13 and he’ll direct then!
- Fan mentions that Jim Beaver said that J2 did not have the ability to prank him good enough. Jared: He’s difficult to prank. Talks about how he tried to squeeze Jim’s toes in the hospital bed scene but Jim was stone-faced. After hearing what Jim said, Jared: Challenge accepted!
- Fan asks about why boys will make certain decisions that seem unwise (like trusting Crowley). They talk about how sometimes they’ll read things and go what?? But they’re invested and they know that those actions have a reason, like setting up a story line they want to tell.
- The boys talk about certain unrealistic things that happen like during fight scenes (ie when they get thrown and always lose their weapons, Jensen says you usually grip harder when you’re thrown so why would they lose the weapons?!) However it exists for a reason. Jared: We wouldn’t get to be saved by our brother.

- Richard welcomes J2 to his hometown.
- Jensen: Jared, how you feeling? Jared: I’m feeling fan-freaking-tastic. Rough go this morning, thank you for your patience. Says he woke up drunk, not hungover lol.
- Jared re-tells the story about how Jensen got him out of bed to out on the town last night. Jared: I’m close to naked, nothing but the radio on, and some SAXX. Says he had a difficult time getting to sleep when he hears a ding. Thinks it’s Gen texting him. Jensen: Nope, Jensen! Text: U awake? (at 11:41) Next text: Nightcap? Jared: Where?
- Jared takes off beanie, crowd goes wild. Jensen pretends to have hair to fling around and Jared fangirls.
- Jensen talks about them going out last night and said there was a funny moment when they were walking to Printer’s Alley. Said there weren’t that many people on the street, and he and Jared were walking side by side on a mission. Then, a guy with his gf stops and they hear him say: “That’s Sam and Dean.” Jensen says they didn’t break stride just kept moving down the alley, but what was really funny was there was smoke wafting up around and behind them from the alley so Jensen was like, this guy thinks he’s in an episode of Supernatural. Jared: We were the stars of our own music video last night. Boys say Nashville took good care of them, probably too much lol.
- Jensen has Jared film him and the audience singing Happy Birthday to Jensen’s mother. At the end Jensen films them both and is excited to send it to his mom. Jokes it will buy him another two months.
- A fan says Jensen’s birthday is tomorrow. Jared corrects them: Two days! Jensen explains because it’s leap year. A bit later Jared hears a fan say Happy Birthday to Jensen and repeats it and thanks them.
- A fan says he’s going to ask his wife’s question, the boys tell him good choice. Jared brings up that it was his sixth wedding anniversary yesterday and Jensen claps along with the audience.
- Can Sam and Dean live a normal life ever? Or a bloody ending? Jared: I don’t think there’s any way they’re gonna be breathing oxygen and not fighting demons. They’re trying to make the earth a better place. Means they will probably die. Jensen agrees - you can try to get out of the life but the life will find you.
- What about the Impala? Jared: Sam and Dean die, in the year 2040, and a couple hunters walk into Bobby’s salvage yard, see the Impala and repair it and go hunting. Jensen: They’ll have to walk into my garage in Austin ‘cause that’s where it’s gonna be.
- If they did Lip Sync Battle what song would they pick and who would win? Jared: Shake it off (demonstrates dancing). Jensen: I’ll submit my Eye of the Tiger video as my entry. Says that was Jared’s fault, anyway.
- Which horror movie do they wanna crash? Jared: My Bloody Valentine - teasing Jensen. Jensen: Jokes about Gilmore Girls being a horror show and how they’re making a remake. Jensen then says The Shining so he could ride a Big Wheel around.
- Fan asks what they do with shorter actors. Mentions how when Ruth is next to Jared you can just see his chest. Jared jokes that’s where the ratings are and Jensen frames Jared’s chest with his hands. Jensen explains they use Gilly boards (named after Gillian Anderson from The X-Files days) which are like quarter apple boxes she would use since she was so much shorter than David and the others. They still use them, as well as camera angles. “It’s all trickery.”
- Jared says they had a rule in season one that whenever Jensen had to stand on one of the boxes he got to punch Jared. Jensen says they’ll get a good-sized guy on set and they’ll see the boys and be like, “Oh, come on!” Jared brought up The Miz: Big guy, handsome, and was like, what in the world I’m the smallest guy here!
- Fan compliments them on how they have played sibling dynamic, asks about challenging parts of their characters. Jensen brings up it’s when they have to play characters that aren’t Sam and Dean. Jensen has a hard time not being Dean, credits Jared at how well he does playing multiple characters. The boys agree that Misha is doing a great job as Casifer. Jared said he told Misha when he saw him playing Lucifer: Misha, dude, great job! (Then jokes) I didn’t know you could act lol. Jensen talks about the difficulties of playing the same character for so many years than having to play someone else, but says they like the challenges.
- While Jared tries to answer the question, Jensen gives him a hard time for the way he is sitting. Tells everyone that Jared will sit Indian style on an airplane seat. Jared: I’m bendy! Jensen: I am not bendy, but I’m fast. Then Jensen gives him a hard time for wearing a scarf and a jacket when it’s so hot. Jared starts singing Shake It Off: Haters gonna hate, hate hate. Shake, shake shake..Jensen: Take it off. Band starts playing stripper music.
- Jared says he doesn’t think Sam is a funny guy and has a hard time playing him funny.
- Tom and Shep had a great time at Monster Jam. Jensen: I would’ve had a great time! Sad they’re missing out on it.
- They talk about first auditions - Jensen said he first auditioned for Sam, Jared jokes that Jensen wasn’t tall enough.
- The boys continue to tease each other relentlessly lol.
- Jared: 11 years ago today we were filming the pilot. Jared thinks it was the scene where the Impala was chasing them on the bridge.
- Jensen asks if he remembers the first scene they ever shot? They both remember: it was the library scene.
- Fan asks how Dean felt about blaming Sam about the apocalypse when Dean broke the first seal to begin with. Jared whispers to fan: I love you. Jensen: This is gonna be an awkward ride home. Jensen: It was in the script lol. Talks about the twists writers throw in and then how they have to figure out how to get out of those twists. Jared says that the story line made for great TV.
- They talk about experiences of meeting the voiceover actors who dub them in different languages. Jared met his Spanish voiceover artist in Barcelona and said it was really cool. The guy was excited and told Jared that he has basically been staring at his face for like five years straight and it felt like he knew him. Jensen’s experience with his Japanese voiceover actor was different: Said the guy walked into the room “like the Japanese version of Prince” with an entourage and everything. Jensen wasn’t sure what was happening but was kind of overwhelmed. The guy didn’t seem all that impressed with Jensen but Jensen thought it was really funny. .
- Jared wants to learn the phrase, “So get this” in different languages since he says it show much on the show.
- Fan: what do you think about Chuck coming back soon? Jensen: Who? Jared: Is he? Jensen: He told you? J2 can’t say much because of spoilers but Jensen says he hasn’t read that far in the scripts yet.
- Jared says they are filming episode 19 right now and has read episode 20. Jared: Episode 20 may be my favorite Supernatural episode of all time. Said he had tears, the shivers, and goosebumps while reading it.
- The boys start teasing each other about how they imagine they read their scripts in their office and eventually the jokes turn dirty. Jared jokes about looking at a pic of Misha while pretending to read a script and says Misha has been working out. Jensen gets up gagging/pretending to throw up and briefly leaves the stage. When he comes back the boys shake off the joke lol.
- A fan asks for some words they could share with the teenagers they work with as program counselors. Jared: Always Keep Fighting and remind them that they are not alone. Jared talks about how much these words mean to them and to a lot of us.
- Last question: Favorite scene so far this season? Jensen: Buy time for me (to Jared)! Jared: My favorite scene so far from s11 is where Sam and Dean are sleeping in the Impala and wake up and talk. Wonders why they haven’t done that before in the show. Jared rambles on because Jensen needs him to buy him more time until he comes up with an answer. Richard whispers to Jensen and finally Jensen says: My favorite scene happens to be any scene from Richard’s episode. They start going on about how great Richard’s episode was :)

- Jared talks about how Jensen dragged him out of bed after the concert last night. Jared says he was in his underwear in bed when he gets a text: Jensen: What’s up? You awake? Jared: Yeah it’s 11:45pm I guess I’m awake. Jensen: Just got back from the concert, my voice is gone. Nightcap? So they went out for a midnight nightcap in Nashville lol.
- Cheers for Jensen singing at the SNS.
- Jared mentions how he even sweats in snow, Jensen says yeah because you wear beanies! Jared starts stripping off his beanie, scarf, and jacket. Jensen: Notice it’s not so hot anymore! Fans telling Jensen to take it off, but he says he has nothing left to take off. Jared: Take off your shoes!
- Jensen teases Jared and the fans aww - Jensen jokes that Jared’s family is in the audience. Jared: Shh! My mom is talking. Jensen: Thanks for coming, Mom.
- “Where do Sam and Dean keep those fucking suits?” Jared: Girl, you don’t wanna know. They start talking about their “magic pockets” where they will pull weapons out of nowhere during a scene.
- They talk about last week’s wrestling ep and how funny it was. Jared mimics Jensen when Dean was in the ring and said he loved it. Jensen explains he only did it once (after getting advice/ an example from The Miz who told him to be like Ric Flair). He said it was edited to where the footage was basically doubled/tripled to create the scene we saw, said it was a nice collaboration and lots of fun.
- Back to the suits: Jared says the suits are in the trunk. Jensen: You should see what Sam can do with an iron. They should show it. Sam ironing shirts, Dean steaming the pants.
- Jared drops possible minor spoilers concerning ironing lol (blame the hangover).
- Fan asks Jensen if he was a high school cheerleader. After some shenanigans with the fan’s phone (aka Jared taking a selfie of them and the crowd) Jensen explains that it was the annual Powderpuff football game and he was dating the captain of the cheer-leading team at the time. He and a bunch of the other guys on the baseball team dressed up for fun to cheer them on from the sidelines and “acted like idiots.” Jensen: My wife still thinks I was a cheerleader.
- Boys discuss that they were too small to play football back in high school (Jared hugs Jensen), and that the actual players on the team were huge.
- J2 say on the last day of filming they are going to get the Impala because they will take off and not come back. Jared says Jensen gets Impala #1, Jared #2, and they’ll drive them right back to Austin.
- Jared tells his favorite Misha story, which is when J2 first met him and they thought he was creepy. Turns out Misha started out as a method actor but that didn’t last long. Jensen talks about how Misha being part of the show really helped them out because of the workload. He goes on to talk about how they like when people come on the show that like having fun and don’t take things too seriously. Those are the ones that stick around.
- Asked about improv, boys say there was a lot in the wrestling ep. The last line (”Damn right”) was improv. Jared says another improv was when Sam was possessed by Meg - Dean punching him after Sam is exorcised and Sam’s reaction to the punch was all the boys, none of it was scripted. Jensen says sometimes they will rework a scene if dialogue is clunky or not working well. The writers trust them to do that. J2 care about their characters.
- Fan talking about how a city is called Hell in Michigan. Jensen: The city planners were not happy that day.
- Fan asks if Jensen knew Danneel before filming Ten Inch Hero. Jensen: Not only did I know her, Jared knew her. Jensen talks about how he and Danneel carpooled to work together.
- The fan asks how he feels about Danneel’s nude scene in the movie. Jared jokes, I’m fine with it. Makes a “that’s what she said” joke about it being too short and collapses on the floor. After joking around Jensen says that it was Danneel’s decision to make and he is fine with it. Says he can now go back and watch it and say “yep, I locked that down.”
- Jared talks about how they are Texas boys who married the strongest Italian women who make decisions and they’re like “yes ma’am.” Jared: “We are both feminists because we get that women are freaking powerful.” When their wives make a decision that’s it.
- Jared is asked about Sam and how he would feel about God if he came back. Jared: Watch the rest of the season. Jensen: Whoa spoiler alert!
- What are their top three things on their bucket list? Jared talks about how you need to keep moving your feet and find something really special. Says if he was given a day to live he would spend it at home with his wife and kids, would also want to jump out of a plane in one of those squirrel suits (Jensen calls it a moose suit). He also mentions that out of curiosity he wants to try Petrus wine.
- Jensen talks about wanting to hit a ball at a major league ballpark one day. Then he stops to tell Jared that Jared has a bottle of Petrus wine in his house, “freaking open it!” Jensen: What are you waiting for? Hearing from the doctor you’re gonna die? Open it! Jared: Touche, touche. Jensen, back to the bucket list: If they are tangible then go for it. Life’s too short. If there’s things you wanna do make it happen.
- Jared: Live the life you wanna live. Don’t push it until tomorrow. Live life how you wanna live it today.
J2 HoustonCon 2016 Main Panel
- Jared stands on the chair to see all of the fans in the audience, Jensen looks concerned lol. Rob: This could end badly!
- Jensen: “There are two kinds of people in this world. The ones from Texas and the ones who wish they were.” Jared: That’s what I love about people from Texas. They ask how your day is going.
- J2 discover that the chairs swivel. Jensen: It’s like instead of Spin the Bottle, spin the Winchester.
- Talking about the pics of them in the car from this morning, said there was a third pic they didn’t post. Might post later.
- Jensen had decided that a selfie smile at the camera was too nice, so they posed sleeping ones for fun.
- Jensen says they don’t have a body clock anymore, Jared agrees. They can fall asleep in about 60 seconds as actors, or for 25 minute flights.
- Jared does an interpretive dance to catch a fan up from season 7. It involves a lot of “dying.” Jensen: That’s some of the best performing from you I’ve ever seen. Jared drops mic, admits he got into it.
- J2 say they’ll go after the Chupacabra in season 13.
- Jensen: I prefer comedic and action scenes. Jared: I prefer dramatic scenes. Jensen: We were made for each other.
- Fan with no question, audience yells pancakes or waffles. Jensen: Flapjacks. Jared: Waffles. They start arguing - Jensen says that syrup spills onto Jensen’s bacon from pancakes so it’s way better. Jared: Bacon was not part of the conversation! Jensen: Bacon was always a part of the conversation. This is not a debate.
- Jared took ballet in high school. Drama teacher thought ballet made actors more comfortable in their own skin.
- Jensen lost a bet with Danneel, and she signed him up for dance classes before they got married. When they got to the reception, her dress was too big so they were unable to do the rehearsed dance. Jensen: So I too took dance lessons that didn’t pay off (after joking that Jared still isn’t comfortable in his skin).
- Jared did a high kick in reference to one of the things he learned from ballet.
- When Jared opened up about depression he realized how big a community this is, and talking openly is so important. To a fan: “Just know that you are a part of a big community that loves you.” To AKF: Be proud, love yourself, be brave, and know you are never alone.
- Fan asked Jensen to lift his shirt a little bit. He stood up to the stripper music, and showed his pocket lol. Jared: If you would’ve said 12 inches, you would’ve seen everything. Joke backfired! Jared tells the audience to “get a grip” and J2 start laughing even more.
- Kripke made Dean love food and pie seemed funny. Jensen wasn’t much of a pie guy, but knowing Dean so long it’s rubbed off on him.
- The most romantic times Jared and Gen have had are impromptu. They don’t want it to be scripted, that loses its luster as actors. Jensen and Danneel had best romantic times on their honeymoon, also speaks to “unscripted moments.” That’s a relationship.
- J2 give advice to a young actor. Jensen talked about knowing your craft, Jared spoke about knowing yourself. Jared: “Honesty shines through just like bullshit. So be true to yourself.”
- Thing they miss most about Texas (other than family)? They say Whataburger’s fancy ketchup, the people, bbq, and the sun.
- J2 fist bump!
- Fan gives J2 a hard time for not wearing seatbelts in the car pics this morning. Jared: In all fairness, you’re right. But…we were parked.
- J2 play rock, paper, scissors, and Jensen lost to Jared twice. (Another livetweet: J2 just staged Dean and Sam paper-scissors-rock without needing to discuss it.)
- Jared: After 11 years.. Jensen: … We can read each other’s minds.
- J2 say it was tough when they found out Bobby was going to die; hard losing people you love. Jared: It’s exactly like Twilight. Watching the people you love die…Please don’t die. Jensen: I WANT to now.
- Jensen: If you’re going to send off a beloved character you should do it in an amazing way, like with Bobby.
- Jared relates to Sam’s anxiety and struggle. Jensen relates to Dean’s protectiveness of friends and family, and family not ending in blood.
- The boys talk about how “we’ve seen more Sam and Dean character development in season 11 than ever before.” They talk about Sam and Dean in the last episode. Jared talks about honesty, Jensen talks about the brothers being brothers again and on the same team. Brothers are stronger when they are on the same side.
- Jensen said the brothers working together and being on the same team is the best platform/theme and what he prefers.
- More J2 spinning chairs lol.
- Jensen took a picture of the “Mark of Cain” cut on Jared’s finger, but the placement of the finger on the camera turned into a funny fail.
- Jensen’s driver’s license says his hair is brown. The younger pics of him, with blonde hair, are highlights from Days Of Our Lives. Says he had to have it dyed for 3 years for DOOL.
- The boys talk about balancing work life with family. They check in with family regularly - thank God for technology.
- Their wives and kids are BFFs, too. It’s all family. They try to spend as much time as they can with their families because it’s important.
- They start auctioning off Valentine’s Day cards (made by Jensen, Misha, and the band). It will go towards Jensen’s charity of choice. Jensen signs his handmade Valentine: “Done. Next.” Richard: “I love when you become a cartoon of yourself.”

- Jared says he’d love to model for SAXX!! Asks if they make SAXX underwear for women. Jensen: No, SAXX isn’t for women, they don’t need a pouch.
- Jensen on Christian Kane: Who would win in a fight? “You talking Dean or Jensen?” Jensen says he wants him to be another hunter they work with. Jared: I didn’t want someone with longer hair than me.
- Jared is drinking iced coffee from Starbucks, Jensen has hot coffee lol.
- Jensen talks about creepy houses they’ve filmed in. While they’re setting up in creepy locations, they get to explore. Owners put ‘do not enter’ signs, which is like an invite!
- Jensen talks about the hangover scene from the last episode: That was from experience. The food and the rock, paper, scissors scene were not in the script! Jensen says his favorite part was that even though he won, he still didn’t get to go upstairs. He just didn’t care lol.
- Should they share the MOL lore with other hunters? Jared: Most hunters don’t like Sam and Dean. You know, because of the apocalypse.
- Jared proposes a social media network for Hunters. They decide to call it HuntBookFace.
- Jared on Sam and Dean: We know each other, we trust each other.
- Comment on today being the end of the world (reference to the movie Ghostbusters II) Jared: Well I’m glad we’re in Texas! Plans? Jensen: I guess we’re spending it with you!
- Jared (about Stephen Amell) would love to see Oliver and Dean not get along, plus he “likes to make Amell feel short.” Jensen: “Or ANYONE.”.
- Jared: Tom loves Wild Kratts. Went to a live stage show and got an m&g. Tom and Shep had happiest moment in life - so in awe and they loved it.
- Jensen: JJ got trash talked at the playground. Jensen trash talked the other little girl back. Jensen was standing by as JJ climbed a tree slide. Another little girl challenged her speed. The girl was 4, Jensen looks around: She is only 2 and a half and when she’s four she’ll climb it faster than YOU!
- Jared on dealing with depression: Talk about it, be there. See a professional, get a mentor. Talk about it.
- “Jensen, how do you feel to be the same age as when JDM was when he started SPN?” Jensen: “My only goal was by the time Dean got to where Jeff was in age I’d have my voice as deep as his. Now I need medical help.” Jensen also says they had wanted an older actor for Dad after the pilot, then they decided to grey-up JDM instead. Good choice!
- Jared saw a man with an open Hawaiian shirt in a store in LA who bought a lot of cheap wine. Clerk did a double take and they realized it was Eddie Van Halen.
