shall we scream into the void?

@hear-be-a-dragon

i am but a queer little creature with pockets full of rocks

Not me crying over the "Good Night Oppy" documentary on Prime.

I logged in to watch Good Omens and got completely sidetracked and now I'm having emotions over robots and Space. Again.

They engineers keep calling Opportunity "my child" and I'm 😭

Oh no. Well. I guess I'll be spending part of tomorrow crying as well, because there's no way I'm not watching that.

Listen. They played music to the rovers every "morning" to wake them up because it's a tradition to wake astronauts up with music.

And the way their voices all wobbled when they thought Spirit was dead and she came back to life listening to ABBA.

"So when you're near me, darling Can't you hear me, S.O.S.? The love you gave me Nothing else can save me, S.O.S."

I AM UNWELL.

The grief when Spirit died. Ugh. My heart.

They keep talking about Opportunity like she's human. Like her front arm had "arthritis" and her wobbly wheels and "losing her memory," and how she'd go to sleep and forget everything she'd achieved before, all of her science data and how she was still their perfect child and kept going, I'm--

"We hadn't seen her in 14 years and there she was."

The sandstorm just hit and I'm not okay.

The final song they played to her was "I'll be seeing you" sung by Billie Holiday which ends:

"I'll find you In the morning sun And when the night is new I'll be looking at the moon But I'll be seeing you"

"Good night, Opportunity. Well done" 😭😭😭😭

Oh man 100/10. Ripped my heart out my chest and put it back in with faith in humanity restored. Fuck I love space robots and the humans who build them.

I love this little nod on Gabriel's sweater to the winged hourglass that is present throughout various versions of the book (section dividers, the Paul Kidby "Occult" version, the author photo of @neil-gaiman and Terry Pratchett on the back cover). It's just such a lovely detail. I wanted to point it out even if it was obvious to everyone but me because I think it points to how meticulously this whole version has been created. I kept noticing it and it made me smile every time.

Thank you to all who worked on making S2 so BAFFLINGLY wonderful. I look forwards to S3 (after several rewatches of S1 and S2 with much speculating by me and bruising if not breaking of my emotional kneecaps by Sirs Gaiman and Finnemore).

Browsing fabrics is equal parts fun and infuriating, mostly because I'm tired of listings that say shit like "natural linen!" and then you go to the details of the listing and it's a blend of linen and fucking plastic. Same thing with cotton. Even on the nice expensive fabric sites, they like to hide the fiber content at the bottom of the goddamn page and give the listings misleading titles.

See also: vegan leather. It's fucking plastic. If I wanted plastic I would be shopping for fucking plastic! Get that shit out of my search results! God damn it! List it accurately or don't waste my time! Fuck!

IF YOU MAKE ME ORDER SWATCHES JUST SO I CAN LIGHT THEM ON FIRE TO FIGURE OUT THE FIBER CONTENT, I HATE YOU

Okay? And? That means it would benefit everyone to have better fiber content labels, which is my entire issue. Fabric shops don't label the fiber content clearly enough and it makes it harder to find what I am looking for.

I'm not sitting here telling people with allergies that they aren't allowed to use synthetics. I'm saying that I, PERSONALLY, am looking for linen, and it's really hard to find 100% natural linen without plastic blended in.

Another minor point I haven't seen any speculation about--

Jimbriel's Big Fluffy Coat when he walks out of the bookshop to turn himself over. Why such an epic (and presumably expensive?) costume piece for such a brief scene? It it significant in some way, or was he maybe just supposed to wear it in other scenes that ended up being cut/not shot?

The only thing I can think of for Option A is that the visual effect is sort of wing-like, but...so? We already know he's an angel, so I'm drawing a blank on what the point of that particular visual metaphor might be.

I just had a discussion with my friend about fanfiction and how we tend to assume that women are the writers without any actual proof. Then I said, hey, I know fanfiction written by gay and trans dudes. But then I remembered, wait, I think I know one writer who just must be cis het based on his work. Anyway, all writers, be honest, who are you?

Please reblog if you're interested in the results.

Oh please answer this poll, it might be semi-representative if the number of responses is high enough
