Why is it necessary that a piece of art "condemns" or "normalizes" something. Is it not enough for art to say "here are some fucked up people in some fucked up situations for your enjoyment"? The art doesn't have to judge them and neither do you. It's for your enjoyment.

I've been wanting to draw something as a sort of follow-up from Safety of Distance for a while, so - tada! Xichen cultivates to immortality to keep his boys company! he never goes back to wearing his Lan ribbon, but the symbol of it still means something to him, so he takes up wearing a ring instead. he says he wears it on his wedding-ring-finger to discourage people from hitting on him, and if he secretly wears it there for other personal reasons, well, that's his business.

JGY fucking loooooooves playing with all the new technology and trying to keep up with fashion and pop culture (it's good for him to have a challenge as he is 100% A Dog With A Job, if he doesn't get enough stimulation he starts performing psychological experiments on his household) and nowadays he can use spreadsheets and banking apps on his phone!!! man is the happiest he's ever been!!!

Mingjue... cares considerably less about keeping up with the times, he knows he's gonna stand out whatever he does so he's just gonna Do Him however is most comfortable. he does wind up getting some very Qinghe tattoos to subtly obscure his, uh... reassembly scars....

I'm so happy to have finished my Kinnporsche the Series posca marker illustrations! I planned these out earlier this year and it took a long time to get in the right headspace for them. In the end, after multiple Kinnporsche rewatches and months of putting them off, I finished them all in about a week.

This show is so visually stunning, and I thought the vibrance of posca markers would be the best way for me to show my appreciation for its creativity. The beautiful lighting is such a fun contrast with the dark themes explored.

it's spotify wrapped season again and you know what that means! time to plug that wrapped playlist into hype machine's merch table tool and see if it turns up any bandcamp links where you can directly support your favorite artists of 2023! the tool is definitely not perfect or infallible, but it's a great start if you want to start compensating the artists whose music meant the most to you this year at a rate higher than the peanuts they got from your spotify streams!

the maximum possible amount for artists to make per stream on spotify is $0.003. that's the maximum, and in 2024 there will be a new minimum amount per stream: zero. that's right, spotify is instituting a new policy that songs that are streamed under a certain amount--roughly 2/3 of all tracks on the platform--will make no money at all.

i totally understand why everyone uses spotify. the infrastructure that used to make it straight forward to buy and own your own media has collapsed somewhat, and the streaming companies want it that way. but i do want to encourage everyone to dip a toe in the waters of buying and not renting the media that means the most to you: buy a couple albums from your spotify wrapped! let's say you streamed one song enough times this year to pay out the artist $5. that's about 1,700 streams. in ten seconds you can pay that artist twice as much by spending $10 on their album. you can even keep listening to the album on spotify, secure in the knowledge that in that ten seconds on bandcamp you compensated them fairly for the hard work they put into that music.

those are some of the benefits for artists of buying media. the benefits for you, the listener, are simply that it's nice to actually own the things you love. right now you are renting your music library from spotify. that's very convenient, but spotify will not be around forever, and when it eventually goes the way of all flesh your music library will go with it. your playlists, your faved songs, everything. when you buy media, you have it, and nobody can take it away.

anyways i basically post exactly this once a year every year so this has been my yearly encouragement to buy and own some media, thanks for reading.

This is exactly how I feel watching people talk longingly about the Soviet Union and happily use its symbols, while friends I have from those countries talk about the trauma their families still carry from that regime.

Communism makes sense for my ethics, therefore that authoritarian expansionist regime demonized by America must be good!

You'll see an American leader going "I should have all the power" and another leader going "no, I should have all the power" and pretend like one of those has to be the good guy.

If you think you're immune to propaganda, just because you're critical of it when it favors one specific country you don't trust, you've primed yourself to accept it from whoever decides to pretend they share your ideals.
