The DMD music video gives us a chance to break the VEVO record, but it ALSO gives us another way to boost our numbers for the Billboard Hot 100. We’ve fallen in the ranks a LOT since the debut week, and if we make another huge push, maybe we can land ourselves back in the Top 10. Here’s how to make that happen.

PART ONE: YOUTUBE HERE is a link to the music video. A couple of guidelines: i. LOG OUT of your account. (It only counts once if you don’t.) ii. Do NOT mute the sound. You can plug in some headphones and leave it to the side of your screen if you need. (Also, here, if you want to be extra sneaky.) iii. WATCH for at least 1 minute. YouTube won’t disclose how much you actually need to watch for it to count as a view. I’ve seen 45 seconds cited most often. To be safe, I’d safe halfway through the video, but a minute at the minimum. Make a game out of it. Notice something different each time you watch. First watch for a certain person, then watch for background things, then watch for interactions, then start counting things, etc. etc. Or just set a timer on your phone. iv. REFRESH. Don’t hit repeat. v. WATCH on as many devices as possible. vi. SHARE on Twitter, on Facebook, with your friends. Just getting one extra person to watch the video helps. vii. As for PLAYLISTS - I would say stick to watching the video yourself just to try and get as many views as possible. But, if you need to step out for a little while or if you’re going to sleep, then you can set up a playlist to run while you do.

PART TWO: SALES i. PURCHASE the song. ii. GIFT it.

PART THREE: RADIO AIRPLAY i. Automatically generated tweets: This makes requesting songs from radio stations INCREDIBLY easy. All you have to do is click a few times. Resource one. | Resource two. | Resource three. ii. Online request forms: Use the ‘find’ function on your browser to quickly locate 'Drag Me Down’. If DMD isn’t listed, you can fill it in on the blanks at the bottom of the screen. Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and fill in your name, complete the CAPTCHA, and request. Resource one. | Resource two. iii. Personalized tweets: Here are a few lists of radio station Twitter accounts. For these, you need to click the account name, and then tweet to that account. You can tweet something as simple as: Please play @OneDirection #DragMeDown Resource one. | Resource two. | Resource three.

PART FOUR: SPOTIFY STREAMING i. STREAM the song. (Here’s a playlist.) Do NOT mute it or it will not count.

PART FIVE: TWITTER i. TWEET about the song, including the link to the music video. You need to include@OneDirection, #DragMeDown, #NowPlaying, a LINK to the song, and use various terms associated with the song and song playing, such as “music,” “song,” “track,” “LISTEN.”” Here is a list of example tweets.
