I’m getting fed up with this whole “feminism as an identity” thing. Time for “feminism as an action.”
So instead of asking “can a feminist do x?” ask “is doing x a feminist action!”
Can a feminist take her husband’s last name? Mu. Null. Question un-valid, please un-ask question.
Is taking your husband’s last name a feminist action? No it isn’t. It doesn’t challenge the patriarchy in anyway, it is the status quo thing to do, it is what is expected of women, and it carries a lot of historical baggage about ownership and shit like that.
But that’s okay, your life choices don’t have to be 100% dictated by your politics unless you want them to. And it’s okay to really want to take his name while recognizing that you also want to do the feminist thing and keep your own, and it’s okay to feel conflicted and have a hard time making the choice. But no more of this enabling “as long as I made the choice myself it is a feminist choice” -bullshit. Own your choices, even the ones that aren’t informed by your feminist politics. You are still a human being and people do shit that contradicts their politics and even interests all the time. Just stop pretending that everything you do is feminist because you are a feminist, that’s not how it works.

For everyone going to protests, remember:
Bring a shit ton of water. More than you think you need, and then more than that.
Bring a mask. Preferably a gas mask, but anything is better than nothing.
Be alert. If you see something get thrown, even if you’re not sure what it is, run in the other direction. Better safe than sorry.
IF YOU GET TEAR GASSED:
DO NOT put milk in your eyes. Flush your eyes out with water, milk can cause infections in your eyes. Additionally, milk is no more effective against tear gas than water. Milk is effective against pepper spray.
Flush your eyes with water immediately. Keep rinsing them for 10-15 minutes, or just as long as you can.
TAKE OUT CONTACTS
When you shower, take as cold a shower as possible. It will suck, but hot water will enlarge your pores and let the tear gas seep in deeper. Be very thorough with soap, remember to wash your hair too.
Remove all contaminated clothing immediately, put it in a plastic bag and wash it as soon as possible. If you got directly tear gassed, you may have to throw the clothes away.

Police may tell you that you will be allowed to leave if you provide your name and your address, if you give information about other protestors etc. Police can and will lie to you, do not trust them. Never talk to cops. Being trapped in a kettle is stressful. Police may decide to arrest a few of you or all of you. Their goal is to gather information and to demoralize you. They might threaten or harass you. Your goal should be to remain calm and to help the people around you remain calm. Remember if nobody talks, everyone walks.

Banishing Salts Wondrous Item, very rare

Banishing salts come in a specially made pouch with 1d4 + 1 handfuls. Using an action you can throw a handful of these salts in a 10-foot cone in front of you. Every creature in the area must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or be affected by the magic of the salts.
