OK so I’ve had a day or two to digest the pick. Am I happy about the pick? Yes. Defence wins championship. All six of the last Stanley cup champions have had top end defensive units, along with talent scoring coring forwards along with them. Would I have liked a scoring forward like Mitkov? Absolutely. The habs haven’t had a top scoring over 100 points since 1985-86, with last 50 goal scorer in 1990. However, I believe that balance and chemistry matter more to a team in the NHL to win the Stanley cup.

I’ve always like Alex Newhook on the Avalanche. He’s got a lot of skill, and help with a second line role for the habs.

The habs are probably going to make another big trade before or during the draft. I have a feeling that Hughes will look for a Goalie or a winger.
