Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly speech that Ukrainian forces have not been able to fully respond to Russia's armed advantage, despite the fact that the United States has supplied weapons to Ukraine.
"This is felt in the battles, especially in Donbas. That's one hell of a thing. It cannot be described in words." Zelensky stated.
Meanwhile former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, who is known as a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has speculated that the agreement on grain and fertilizer transports negotiated by Ukraine, the UN, Turkey and Russia at the end of July may open a path to a ceasefire in Ukraine. Zelensky has previously expressed concern that a potential ceasefire could give Russia the opportunity to rest and reorganize.
"Any cease-fire that allows Russia to keep Ukrainian territories seized since the invasion in February would only encourage an even wider conflict, giving Moscow a badly-needed opportunity to replenish and rearm for the next round, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned. " (source)
Although Ukraine's momentum has been incredible, the Russian invasion has worn out the Ukrainian troops and the civilians. Personally I fear that if a ceasefire is initiated Russia will either break it immidiately to gain advantage, or Zelensky's concerns will come true.
Ukraine still needs military aid as well as humanitarian aid to fend off Russia. The only way to secure peace in Ukraine is Russia's utter military defeat.
