Old Dogs REALLY need our help!

Just about the one good, pure thing going right now is the Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary, but some of its neighbors have taken offense and now it is being forced out— in only 60 days. I wish I were a lawyer so I could offer my services to fight this and at least buy them ample time to find and build a sanctuary equivalent to what they have now or better. Since I’m not, it’s time to dig deep and give, and not let 2016 get even worse. These dogs were promised a comfortable home for the rest of their lives. Their people need some help to keep that promise.

Please donate if you can at all, even a few dollars, and signal boost this until every set of dog-loving eyes on this site knows about what’s going down here. There’s a lot of cruel and scary things happening in the world that we can’t do a lot to fix or prevent, but we can stop the worst from happening here, and give these dogs who have finally found much-needed stability and peace a smooth transition to what will be an even better, more stable place to call home.

CHANGE IS IN THE AIR… WE NEED YOUR HELP! On August 19, the county zoning board, fueled by a few neighbors who think that OFSDS has grown too large for the neighborhood, gave us 60 days to move Sanctuary Dogs and operations. The change will be positive. We are currently trying to work through a lease and also looking at other options that are more public than we are now. This will allow growth with the ability for more volunteers, supporters and potential forever families to visit. The time crunch, however, is not good and we will have to come up with a solution soon to avoid fines and legal penalties. We have promised our Old Friends that we will care for them for the rest of their lives and we will NEVER go back on that promise. We don’t often ask for donations, but moving will be expensive and now is a special time for us. Ultimately, this will be a GREAT move for OFSDS, we just have to get through this transitional stage. Reblogging again to signal boost. These people need our help to pay for the lawyer trying to get them an extension on the ludicrous 60-day GTFO order, find a new location to home 60+ senior rescue dogs (some of them totally blind) build the ramps they need to move around, equip the place, pay for the lease, and uproot all the dogs and move them from the property owned by the people that started the sanctuary on their own land, in their own home.

But I don’t want to move!

If any of you have any connections to the media, PLEASE MAKE THEM AWARE OF THIS.  Local media, national media, Buzzfeed… even huge media outlets like the New York Times and CNN. What they are being forced to do is massive endeavor, and OFSDS needs all the help it can get, including pressure from the media on the responsible parties to do the right thing here.

What are Polarized Sunglasses?

You’ve probably heard of polarized sunglasses before, but maybe you’re wondering how they actually work and what they do. We’re sure you have a number of questions about these unique sunglasses and their benefits, so check out all the information below.

Benefits of Polarized Lenses So, why are polarized lenses so awesome?

Polarized lenses are coated with a special chemical film that helps reduce glare. Glare is caused when light from the sun is reflected off of water or a solid surface. By neutralizing glare, polarized lenses help you see objects more clearly, and also help reduce the harmful effects of UV light.

How Polarization Works

The sun’s rays reflect light in every direction, so when a ray hits a flat surface, the reflected light shines back at your eye and is magnified, causing glare. Glare is a real buzzkill. It reduces your depth perception, distorts your view and color perception, and can even temporarily blind you. Not cool.

Regular sunglasses are designed to only reduce the amount of light that is transmitted through the lens horizontally and vertically. But the chemical filter on the lenses of polarized sunglasses is designed to absorb horizontal light waves, while still allowing vertical waves to pass through. Because light only travels in one direction through polarized lenses, glare is eliminated. Drag the arrow from left to right to see the effects of polarization.

Types of Polarized Lenses

.75 mm polarized lenses

These polarized lenses are made from thin sheets of film and are the best option when you don’t need to worry about impact resistance. The .75 mm lenses are good for most casual sports, like running and golf.

1.1 mm polarized lenses

These polarized lenses are made with thicker sheets of film. They offer more impact resistance than .75 mm polarized lenses, but they have the same polarizing layer. Even though 1.1 mm film is thicker, these sunglasses don’t offer better glare reduction or higher polarization. In fact, the added thickness usually makes them a more expensive option.

Tinted Lenses vs. Polarized Lenses

While tinted sunglasses are great for reducing brightness, they don’t eliminate harsh glare like polarized sunglasses. Don’t let darker lenses fool you into thinking they offer more protection from UV rays, either. The darkness of the lens does not accurately represent the lenses’ ability to block UV rays.

Always check the label on your lenses to see what level, if any, of UV protection they offer. Also, remember that dark sunglasses without UV protection will cause more damage to your eyes than not wearing sunglasses at all. Darker tints can cause the pupil to dilate, letting more UV rays into the inner part of the eye.

For years, boaters and fishermen have reaped the benefits of wearing polarized sunglasses. More recently, however, the benefits of polarization have been embraced by a variety of other outdoor sports enthusiasts and those who enjoy general outdoor recreation. Water-sport athletes, golfers, cyclists, and joggers can all benefit from sunglasses with polarized lenses.
